I finally made the pilgramage to the Infamous Kuhnhenn Brewing in Warren, Michigan. A mere 30 minute drive from where I live now resulted in a unique experience. Upon finding the establishment, I was suprised to find a highly stocked homebrewer's store attached to the building. From what it looked like it could've been a Costco for beer brewers. I'm not a homebrewer, so I merely peeked in and made my way to the bar. Not a bad atmosphere, kind of bland and boring, but I wasn't there for the decor, I was there for the beer. one high point is the aroma of beer brewing that permeated the building, it was so amazingly good, it was like being in Beer Heaven The bar tender took no time in getting to me, handing me a menu of the craft beers, wines and meads that were available. I was a bit disappointed as there were only 7 beers on tap, and 4 are common around the Metro Area in bottles, but nonetheless, I had one of each new brew that I hadn't had and 3 oz. samples of the ones I have to compare. The beers on tap were very fresh and very well priced when considering their quality. I'll go back, and I'd recommend other BA's in the area to checking it out as well, as the seasonal offerings are probably highly worth the trip. A good establishment.

Kuhnhenn. Ledgendary beer. Ledgendary "finding of beers"
Atmosphere- High ceiling. Big wooden horshoe bar with taps in the middle. Wooden non-padded chairs. High top tables set up around the bar. Usually a good variety of music playing off an iPod. TVs are usually on with some sporting event.
Quality- Beer quality=World-class! I can get a Raspberry Eisbock, DRIPA, BB4D, and Stout on tap! Growler fills to-go. 64oz, plastic-screwtop growlers filled straight from the tap.
Service- Simple service. Always there and your glass will never go dry. They are very friendly and willing to chew the fat on a slow night.
Selection- I only come here for beer, so I'll only review that. The selection is always quite good. usually 20+ beers on tap with some amazing Root Beer!
Food- blech... "cheese and crakers" is a plastic sleeve of crackers and a hunk of cheese. Usually, they have free popcorn for a simple snack. Eat before you go.
Value- Here's the secret: get a flight! I was able to snag a flight with 4oz KRE, 4oz BB4D, 4oz, Simcoe Silly, 4oz Penetration Porter, and 4oz Braggot for $10!!

This is a huge "place tick" for me. Living in Michigan, I'm constantly being asked if I have access to Kuhnhenn, "Can you send me some Kuhnhenn", etc etc. Only problem is I'm about 515 miles from Kuhnhenn, so no I don't...I was honored to finally be able to visit.
I clearly came at the right time. Christmas Eve, 2012. They were fresh off the Solstice party, and had a full tap board. They had everything a young man or woman could desire. BBBW, BA4D, Simcoe Sillier, Solar Eclipse, the list goes on.
Before visiting, I did not know that they had a full expanse of not only great beer, but also wine and mead. All sorts of really tasty sounding meads, and some berry wines, a little bit of everything.
The bar is in an older warehouse style building, with another small warehouse across the parking lot which apparently is a homebrew supply store owned by the Kuhnhenn family as well. The bar is pretty well spread out, with quite a few tables situated around a horse shoe shaped bar. About 15 to 20 taps in the center. One bartender on at this point, but there were other employees floating around, bottling and so on.
They don't serve "food" so to speak, but they do serve some soft pretzels and maybe some other really snacky things.
This was an awesome visit. I will try and make it back as soon as I can. Until then, I will have to rely on my local friends for the Kuhnhenn hook. Great stuff going on!

This is a great place. Stopped by here twice over the Winter Solstice weekend - the first time it was packed with people and the second time it was much more quiet. Atmosphere is great: very much a home-town bar feel to it with extremely friendly bartenders and wait staff.
The beer is top notch as well. Was only able to try a few since I was the driver but all were outstanding, including a mead. Tap list was probably better than normal due to the Winter Solstice but there was a lot of taps to choose from and at any time the selection would have to be outstanding.
Didn't have any food, didn't even notice if there were menus.

Huge selection of well-crafted beers. Everything they serve they brew there. I was impressed to see that they brewed root-beer for my designated driver. My favorite beer that they have there of which I have tried so far would be the Braggot, or the Creme Brule Java Stout. The wait-staff was very friendly and knowledgeable for the limited amount that they have on the floor.
Kuhnhenn's is at the top of my list for breweries that I have visted so far. If you're picking a paddle I recommend the 9, Braggot, Creme Brule Java Stout, Loonie Kuhnie, and Barley Wine.

I made my second visit to Kuhnhenn's last weekend. It's an average sized place. There are tables around a U-shaped bar that serves as the centerpiece. Brewing equipment is visible. I counted 30 taps of which 20 were flowing with beer. I got a couple flights which consisted of 5 beers in each flight. I sampled IPA's, stouts, Belgian styles, etc. The selection of beers is fantastic. All were good.
I got there at about 11:30am EDT, so it was not crowded and there were three servers. People did flow in during my time there which is a testament to the beer, since the food menu is very limited. My date and I each had a hot pretzel which held me over until lunch. Other menus items included eight inch pizzas, crackers, cheese, and cured meats.
The staff was friendly and helpful. The quality of the beer was fantastic. The selection was great. The food was lacking (quantity of selection), and it was all reasonably priced. I got a couple bottles to go. To go beer is high priced due to limited quantity.

Oh, Kuhnhenn. First off. If you can't find something to drink at Kuhnhenn, you've clearly got some personal issues. I mean, really. They've got a little bit of everything here. And I mean that in a beer, wine, and mead kinda way. As far as a brewpub or bar goes though, it may seem a bit lacking to some. I find myself wanting a bit more beyond an excessive amount of drink choices to choose from. (Translated: the decor seems rather drab and basic and lacking any degree of personality.) But hey, that's just me.

Nice atmosphere, great selection of quality beers - with a good twist of eccentricity and pretty good location.
The only problem is, that if you aren't one of their preferred regulars, they pretty much ignore you. I only make in there every couple of months, and I'm not there to but it's invariably been like this for a couple of years. So I'm not sure why everybody keeps talking about how great the service is. Even in the middle of the day, when there's hardly anybody else at the bar, the bartenders are more concerned with chatting with their buds then they are about getting you a beer (or taking your money for the one you finished 10 minutes beforehand).

Probably the best brewpub in Metro Detroit.
Service is always solid and everyone has a great knowledge of all of the beer.
Always have a great selection of beer on tap along with a delicious root beer. Really something for everyone with my personal favorites right now being the White Devill, DRIPA and the Creme Brule Java Stout. The taps rotate pretty frequently with something new popping up almost every week it seems.
As far as the food goes, I rated it a 5 because they will let you bring in whatever you want or have it delivered right there. They also have started doing wood fired pizza on the weekends which is fantastic.
They will fill a growler of most anything on tap and also have bottles to go. If you are looking for something specific be sure to ask, it might not always be on the menu as available to go or in the cooler out front.
All in all a fantastic brewpub that I would definitely recommend if you are in town.

Stopped in to pick up some brews for a trade and sample a few for myself. Big, airy, open bar with lots of seating that looks into the brewhouse. Not very busy for midday, but they don't offer much in the way of food, so not really a lunchtime crowd kind of place.
Selection was huge (all house beers) with about 15 different beers on tap, providing a large spectrum of beer styles to choose from, from lighter fare (english pale ale and Alt) to fruit beers (Apple Jacks and Blueberry Pancake Ale) to huge, dark, heavies like Dark Heathen, and Barrel Aged 4th Dementia. A few bottle selections available (again, all house brews) of about 8 to 10.
Service was attentive, not hovering, and the bartender poured my selections and boxed up my beer, glass, and shirt order without a fuss, even when I kept adding to my order. There is a very limited food menu available, meats, cheeses, and personal sized pizzas, but I did not try any food.
The draft selection, most of which is available in growlers to take home, are reasonably priced. Most beers in the 4 to 6 dollar range per serving, with growlers going for 12 to 18 bucks. Bottled beer is a bit pricey though, with each going for 6 to 10 bucks a piece (a $60 six pack?!?).
Overall, though, this is a destination brewery. You must make the trek here, try their brews fresh from the tap, and take some swag and beer home.
