Great Atmosphere, service and people. Wish they served more than just chips and popcorn though...
There DRIPA was fantastic as well as the Penetration Porter. Was looking for something barrel aged, but those releases were all off the shelf by the time i go there.

I dropped by this brewery on my way back to Ontario after catching a Lions game in Detroit with my wife.
Read a few BA reviews first and it looked promising. It's location is terribly unassuming at a busy awkward intersection in Warren, though we had no trouble finding it.
It was mid afternoon on a Monday, but still had a few regulars drinking a couple beers. We sat at the large bar and both ordered flights. The house flight was $9 for 5 4 oz samples and the "pick your own" flight was $13. Pretty steep if you ask me considering that some of the beers I didn't really enjoy, such as the porter or heffenweizen.
No food to speak of, but they sell nuts and have free popcorn. People seem to bring in their own food.
Best beer I tried was their DRIPA, a very flavourful estery double IPA.
Overall, the ambiance of this place was lacking for an afternoon pint. It felt more like a beer hall than anything else, and is truly a working brewery. There were a set of TVs, but they weren't on. My only other complaint was that they didn't sell any of their beer in bottles, other than a big lager, though growlers are available. Worth checking out all the same, but doesn't really live up to the hype. May be a better night bar scene than for an afternoon place - also no patio, which was unfortunate as it was a great day.

This was stop #3 on a pub crawl for our group of four. We knew that there was not much for a food menu so our visit was mid-afternoon on a Thursday just to try the beers. We did buy some snacks and had some of the free popcorn to go along with the beers.
What can I say that hasn't already been said about this brewery. Drinkers of good beer make pilgrimages here for the experience, as we were no exception. The place was not busy because of our mid-afternoon timing of the visit, so we received great attention from a friendly server. We ordered a flight of 5 beer samplers (of the 19 that were available that day), and later ordered a pint of another beer that was recommended by our server. All were very tasty, but in all honesty, because this brewery and its beers tends to receive a lot of hype, I felt a little disappointed. Our group rated the beers from a B- to a B+ so overall a B grade, and that included a samplers of the renowned DRIPA and Creme Brulee Stout.
The visit here was a great experience, and I wish we could have spent more time to try some of their other beers, but we had a goal to visit two more places that day so we had to leave. I'll definitely go back when I'm in the area again.

So it's September 2013. A buddy of mine tried to get me in this place probably 10+ years ago. I'm a fool since it took me till 2011. So I messed up, this place is awesome! A good place to hang out drink beer and converse. I beleive they only have one tv so if your looking to watch "The Game" you may be disappointed. The beer is top notch! They always have something that sounds good, and is good. From my experience a bad day here you only have about 20 beers to choose from, a nice list of house made wines and braggots. The better days, fill the chalk board with about 30 brews. Service is usually really good, but this place can get busy at times and service may take a minute during sometimes.
Food is available, but I haven't tried. Except for some summer sausage and horseradish that blew my mind! I beleive you can bring in outside food, but I could be wrong.
Some of the brews can be a bit pricey, but usually worth it.

Atmosphere: nice and relaxed, but a bit cluttered with brewing supplies.
Quality: the big beers here are the best quality but i have had some fille that seem to be just filling the menu
Service: very mixed. sometimes i have had great service others the worst
Selection: good big board that changes with seasons. a beer for everyone.
Overall: Kuhnhenn's is a mixed bag. you don't know what to expect when you go there. the big beers are delicious but others are kinda weak. some stuff is a bit pricey though

*From my Yelp profile*
Well, it's about damn time I found myself down here.
I've been into craft beer for a bit over a year now, and have long thought of Kuhnhenn as the "king" of Michigan microbreweries (of course there's Bell's and Founders... but whatever). I finally went down this past evening and I'd go back and go back again.
When I first walked in, I asked if a group of people asked for a five-person reservation. I got a pretty snobby, "We don't accept reservations here." and I just sat down alone and waited. So far, so good! I was expecting some waitresses that hated their job!
Before long, the people I was meeting arrived, and we got some beer. I sat with my back to the windows so I could see the main bar area as well as all the TVs. The whole place is just covered in wood and lacquer... that's really all it is. It doesn't look bad, it just looks kind of ordinary. What doesn't look ordinary are the TVs... holy fucking screenburn! I think it's time to get some new TVs, Kuhnhenn brothers, what do you think?
Alright, alright... the beer. I wound up getting 2011 Vintage Fourth Dementia, Bourbon Barrel Fourth Dementia, TRIPA, Export Stout, and Raspberry Eisbock in a sampler for about $12.50. The 2011 Fourth Dementia and Raspberry Eisbock came with half pours, but that's what I expected. The quality of beer and the ABV made the $12.50 or so total price pretty reasonable. After the paddle, I tried a Conundrum... which reminded me of a watered down Export Stout -- a great session beer.
Lucky for me, Detroit BBQ Company was in Kuhnhenn offering up some BBQ. I got a pulled pork sandwich (which came with a side of spicy coleslaw) for $8, and I thought it was great. Even BEFORE drinking much of anything, I thought this was some of the best BBQ I had ever had... it didn't even need any BBQ sauce on it. The normal food that Kuhnhenn has is pizza, pretzels, crackers, and cheese... nothing too special. I just came on the right day.
My first impression from a random snobby waitress wasn't a great one, but my OWN waitress was knowledgeable about beer, patient, and attentive. It's stupid to give 4* to Kuhnhenn for this reason, but I am ... I give them a 4* rating simply because the prices are a BIT high (wah, wah, wah, I know), the parking area is relatively small, and the food they normally serve is originally frozen ... I think. I get it, they're a brewery, but I've been to plenty of breweries that have outstanding food. Dammit Kuhnhenn, get an executive chef in house!
In spite of those minor problems, I would love to go back. I want to go back. Can we go back?

Had a great time here. We tried visiting a few weeks ago with another couple but the place was so packed that we couldn't get a table and had to leave. This time, the bf and I just went with one friend, and snagged one of the last tables. High demand, I see!
A- It's a bit crowded and loud, but I like the busy "watering hole" atmosphere. It's also awesome that a homebrew supply shop is across the parking lot.
Q- All of the beers were high quality. I went with two other people and we all exchanged sips of our brews, and everyone liked everything.
S- The service was fairly quick and when I ordered a beer that they happened to be out of, the waiter found me at the free popcorn machine later and recommended something similar.
S- The beer selection was great, though many were out of my price range, so that limited me, personally. I did like all the average priced ones that I had, though.
F- We didn't technically have food (their menu is limited there) but the free popcorn was excellent. Way better than anything from the grocery store and even the movies. I think the salt is what did it.
Overall, I really want to go back but I'm worried about seating. You may have to wait a bit for a table if you have a party larger than 2.

I have been here at least thirty times, my girlfreind and i stop here everytime we are in the detroit area and always have a great time.I have been to lot of breweries but kuhnhenns is hand down my favorite.
Its a small place, and can be a little hard to find, it can get very busy on the weekend, but i can always find a table. The beer here is some of the best i have ever had, this is truly world class beer. Bba 4th dementia and raseberry eisenbock are the rockstars but every sinlge beer i have ever had here is amazing, even the boring beers like the american light and english mild are top notch. They always have around 15 beers on tap and the list is always changing. I have literally had dreams about this place the beer is so good.I have taken lots of freinds here who all now love it just as much as i do.
They dont have a kitchen but they have some snacks and welcome out side food. like i said before its a verry small place, they dont ship at all but often have differnt bottles for sale and they fill growers. I have been waiting for years for them to expand and start shiping but so far nothing, i guess we will see what the future brings. For now you will have to make the trip and if you like beer you will happy you did.
I also forgot to metion that they make some of the best mead i have ver had and have several different kinds, truly great stuff.

Atmosphere- this place has an older feel to it, almost feels like walking back in tome when every down had their own watering hole that brewed their own beer. Nice hardwood floors and a large u shape bar in the middle of the room. Very welcoming and very laid back atmosphere.
Quality/selection- The quality of the beer at Kuhnhenn will meet or exceed any expectations that you may have for it. I got a sampler when I was there and tried the American IPA, Bourbon Barrel Fourth Dementia, Creme Brulee Java Stout, Kuhnhenn ESB, and Raspberry Eisbock. The Bourbon Barrel Fourth Dementia, Raspberry Eisbock, and Creme Brulee were absolutely amazing. There were close to 30 or more beers on tap. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of highly sought after beers that they had on tap. This is one of those rare breweries that has world class beers in a variety of styles that are all very memorable and can stand on their own.
Service- The bartenders are friendly, not extremely knowledgeable of the beer, but are quick to take patrons orders and make sure that the customers needs are met.
Overall. I was very impressed with this brewery. There is no food to speak of except soft pretzels but your coming here for world class beer mot food. Some of the limited beers like Raspberry Eisbock are pricey for a whole glass but a flight of samplers is very reasonable. The beer here met and exceeded my expectations a great experience. I will be visiting here again.

One of my all time favorite breweries. The staff is very knowledgeable and pleasant. With the addition of TRIPA now I have to say they have an even more excellent selection of beer styles. Not a place to go if you are looking for food. They virtually have zero selection in that category. Beer on the other hand...they have that down pat! I highly recommend Kuhnhenn if you like beer and for that matter, if you like world-class beer. ... highly sought after beer in the trading communities also.
Top notch Kuhnhenn bros.
add some good food to the menu and it is a ten out of ten!!!
