Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Pipeworks snifter.

A- pours a burnt orange with a 1 finger white head. Some trails and cliffs of lacing remain on the glass.

S- caramel, honey, citrus, nice Belgian fruit and spice notes from the yeast.

T- similar to nose. Sweet caramel followed by citrus, then the Belgian yeast comes in with the fruit and spices along with some bitter citrus rind.

M- medium body and carbonation. Abv is hidden very well.

O- very nice Belgian ipa, especially given the high abv. This beer drinks closer to 8% than 11+%.

Bottled picked up for me by liamt07. Served in a pint glass at Edward's poker party.

A - White foam settles to a thick cap, collar, and splotches of lace. Transparent amber body.

S - Bubble gum, fruity tropical hops, strong yeast profile that is estery but only slightly phenolic. Candi sugar and caramel malts, a tad doughy. Belgian character comes out more as it warms, and alcohol is quite well-hidden.

T - The taste is similar, but with more emphasis on sweet malt and bubblegum flavors and less of the tangy yeast I picked up in the aroma. I'm guessing the hops have faded a fair bit since December, but it's still on the hoppier side of Belgian Strong Pales. Minimal bitterness and alcohol presence, but perhaps a tad cloying after a while.

M - Sticky, medium-full body, with lower carbonation, and a touch of grain to it. Some alcohol warmth that grows as the beer approaches room temperature, but nothing excessive for 11.25%.

D - I wish I could have had this back in December, as I think more dry-hop character would have been more beneficial. As a fruity Belgian it's a pretty good one, but it's not a beer I'd want to drink all that often; I don't really care much for Simcoe Silly either.

12oz into a snifter.

A: Pours a glowing dark honey color with a small off-white head.

S: Simcoe is still going strong in the nose, with notes of juicy grapefruit, honey, marshmallow, lime zest, mango, fresh grain.

T: Taste comprises pineapple, bitterish resin and pine sap, malty vanilla, stone fruit, honey, white cake, cloves, hint of dark alcohol.

M: Medium-bodied with light carbonation.

O: Even with a few months of age on it, this still feels like a bright and juicy Belgian DIPA. Very tasty.

Bottle into tulip

Appearance: darker amber orange with white half finger head

Smell: simcoe citrus/grapefruit, very floral earthy hops, alcohol, guava and other tropical notes, bubblegum

Taste:you notice the alcohol, not overwhelming but surely not hidden. Lots of clove and bubblegum, some coriander notes as well. Some floral citrus notes blend well with the subtle malt backbone. Hardly bitter at all.

Mouthfeel: decently carbonated, but could possibly use more to make booziness more subtle. Very full bodied beer

Overall: My first Kuhnhenn, i enjoyed this one a lot. Expecting huge floral/simcoe notes but they werent really dominant over the alcohol, has some elements of a scotch ale mixed in. Pretty expensive and wont seek out, but will buy again as it was a refreshing well balanced brew.

2012 Vintage poured in to Kuhnhenn tulip.

A - Cloudy golden orange with a thin layer of cream coloured head.

S - Belgian yeast, clove and peppery spice are complimented by sweet bubblegum, tropical fruit and grapefruit.

T - Yeast esters, spice, clove and a huge bubblegum flavour. Lighter mango and apricot notes. A warming alcohol presence throughout but overall the alcohol is very well hidden for the ABV.

M - Medium body; slightly sticky. Light carbonation.

Bottle poured into a FFF tulip

A - Copper with orange hues. Small amount of carbonation seen trailing upwards. Small white head that leaves nice lacing

S - Sweet pineapple, mango, light strawberry, bubblegum. Very slight floral notes too with a slight kick of booze. This is one sweet and very powerful nose. Really great to smell.

T - Bubblegum and clove with a slight floral aspect as well. Don't get as much sweet fruit as I did in the nose. There is a slight alcohol that comes near the end which when mixed with the bubblegum reminds me of cough syrup. Not a big fan of the taste.

MF - Lots of carbonation with a medium, slightly sticky body.

O - This was an intriguing beer as I loved the smell but the taste was too much bubblegum and booze together. This made it taste off and a bit like medicine.

12 ounce bottle into signature tulip glass, Winter Solstice 2012 bottling. Pours fairly crystal clear golden orange color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lacing cap that lasts. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big tangerine, orange zest, pineapple, mango, banana, clove, bubblegum, pepper, pine, honey, herbal, and floral hop earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great balance and complexity of hop and yeast ester notes. Taste of tangerine, orange zest, pineapple, mango, banana, clove, bubblegum, pepper, honey, floral, and herbal earthiness. Light peppery spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, tropical fruit, banana, clove, bubblegum, pepper, honey, floral, and herbal earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic balance and complexity of hop and yeast esters; with zero cloying sweetness present after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy, slick, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is very nice. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic Belgian DIPA! Great balance and complexity of hop and yeast ester flavors; and extremely smooth to sip on for 11.25%. An extremely enjoyable offering.

12 oz. bottle poured into a Kuhnhenn goblet. 2012 vintage. Thanks goes out to Bob, for the beer and the glass.

A - Pours an orange copper color with perfect clarity. Shows just wisps of carbonation on the surface. Some thin streaks of lacing show down the walls of the glass.

S - Smells of spicy cloves and bubblegum coupled with vibrant notes of mango and pine. Black pepper and raisins are also present. The simcoe brightens up the typical belgian aromas and offers the complexity of citrus and tropical fruits.

T - Tropical fruits burst from the first sip. Mango, pineapple, and tangerine are followed up by peppery clove and sweet belgian yeast. The honey offers some body and a nice floral character. There is nearly no bitterness on the back end. The finish is very clean, something that sets this apart from some of the other BPA/BSPA I have had. You would be hard pressed to recognize the alcohol in this 11+% beer.

M - Slick and medium bodied. Mellow carbonation and a surprisingly clean finish with no astringency.

O - This was a pleasant surprise from a recent trade. Sort of a hybrid BPA/BSPA/DIPA/Tripel but it works very well. The citrus and tropical notes of the simcoe hops play well off the belgian yeasts and spices. I have found that Belgian beers this big tend to become cloying, but this one stays balanced and drinkable. It was gone before I knew it. I highly recommend it.

Bottle shared by solidfunk (RB), 12oz into a tulip. From the most recent Kuhnhenn Winter Solstice.

Orangey red hues, offwhite head with light retention and head. Nose has Belgian yeast, some herbal and citrus notes. Orange and tangerine is at the center of the action. Taste has sweet tangerine, orange and clementines, honey and a beautiful drying Belgian yeast character. Full, sweet body and the alcohol is disguised. So sad I passed up on this on draught at the Winter Solstice :( (good thing though as I probably would've died).

Big orange citrus taste up front. Very good orange aroma. Cushioned mouthfeel. Yeast in the finish. Very good for style. Could also pass as a Belgian IPA. Honey bulks up mouthfeel, makes it smooth. Dangerously drinkable at this alcohol level. Thanks for sharing Josh.
