Bottled 12oz, in 2012, aged another half year, served in snifter at 50F. Drank with wife who loved it in celebration of Kentucky derby and birth of son. Her first BBA RIS.
Black with not a photon shooting through this beer with a thin brown bubbly head round the glass, moderate retention, lacy bubbly lacing. Moderate alcohol legs, no surprise at 18% etoh.
Aroma of toffee, caramel, molasses, with the bourbon notes ble dig well including vanilla, smoke, oak, and a nice tone of licorice. Taste includes the entirety of the nose starts sweet with nice complex malt body and sharp licorice and caramel notes with a strong smokey bourbon finish, bold but not overpowering.
Full body, low carbonation, strong warming mf, chewy.
Overall, loved it, thought this twas excellent for the style. I think I like bcbs a touch more, very similar beers minus the heavier caramel instead of choc and coffee in bcbs. Loved the licorice notes, maybe star anise? Would drink this anytime. Would not pay more than 15 bucks though.

Thanks, Spartan213!
(Aged for 6+ months)
Black throughout. Thick and heavy in body. Very thin small ring of small brown bubbles surround the top of the glass. Leaves the glass nearly clean, but oily on the way down. Appropriate for an imperial stout brewed in 2009 and aged in barrels for multiple years.
Lots of cocoa in the aroma, along with lots of bourbon and barrel notes, and the most burnt/char character I've ever experienced in any beer, though this isn't at all smokey. Lots of caramels and toffees and assorted burnt sugars. Licorice. Very nice. Surprisingly, there really isn't a ton of booze or alcohol in the aroma.
The flavor is similar to the aroma. Lots of charred chocolate, toasty, browned pie crust, caramels and toffees, candy bar and nougat, lots of bourbon and barrel, just a hint of soy, licorice, and complementary warming booze. The flavor comes together incredibly nice, especially considering it's incredibly high ABV strength.
Nearly full in body with very low, coating, creamy, silky carbonation. Appropriate.
This 12 oz. bottle took me exactly 4 hours to finish. I enjoyed every minute.

Bottle shared by Jason. Served in a snifter.
A - Thin tan foam settles to nothing. Very dark brown body. Wasn't expecting much, and I got exactly that.
S - Jeebus, this is quite boozy! Soy, chocolate, dark roasted malts, vanilla, anise. Not a ton of distinct oak and bourbon character, just a reinforcement of the extant booze and charry notes in the base beer.
T - The taste is pretty similar with the aroma, albeit not quite as boozy. Again, soy, smoke, roasted malts, cocoa, light oak and bourbon. Like the American Imperial Stout it's extremely well-attenuated, with maybe a bit more dark fruit.
M - Viscous, chewy, full body, with a smooth texture, and lower carbonation. Finishes hot and boozy. Exactly what you'd expect from an 18% beer aged in a bourbon barrel.
D - A definite sipper, although it didn't drink a ton hotter than something like Road Rash. Either be ready to share this many ways, or don't plan on drinking anything afterward. This might be fantastic in a few months, but at this stage I liked the American Imperial Stout a little more.

Thanks to mrbubbler for sharing this one at GRG1313's tasting.
2012 vintage.
Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, vanilla, and bourbon. Taste is much the same with an alcohol kick on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer that is tasty but quite strong and boozy.

2012 vintage into Villeroy Snifter
Pours a glowing mocha head with visible carbonation from the bottom and a nice hiss when opened. Slightly surprised at the hiss at such a high abv for some reason.
S: Aroma of sweet raisins, caramel, mocha roasted malt, toffee and cocoa.
T: Sweet dark fruit with raisins toffee and caramel. Smokey and oakey along with some hints of soy sauce. Cocoa flavors are strong along with the burnt cotton candy and hints of vanilla oak. This is delicious stuff :) . Hidden booze that is extremely drinkable. Cocoa and vanilla beans merging with oak and licorice at the end drying it out. Definitely my preference to a syrupy thick mess of a RIS.
M: lighter in body than expected but better than a thicker variety to make it easier to go down
O: overall very happy to have tried this and look forward to this again one day further down the road. Hoping to one day make it to the brewery.
