This Light Hybrid Ale was made by Phil Sullivan, Midwest Home Brewer of the year. It is very pale gold in color with brilliant clarity. Exhibiting very low hop aroma, this crisp beer has a delicate balance of soft malt and gentle dryness. We are extremely honored to serve this beer and very proud of Phil’s notable accomplishment.

On tap at The Wurst Bar in Ypsilanti.

A: Nice clear golden color. Little carbonation bubbles rising. Great lacing. Head dissipates quickly to a thin layer where it remained the rest of the drink.

S: Very grassy hops, slight spiceyness that reminds me of Saaz, grain, and a sweetness I can't quite describe.

T: Very drinkable and smooth. There's an almost overwhelming amount of spice in this beer that I wasn't expecting. Not bad, but certainly different. Luckily the other flavors pull through with some nice sweet grass, light hop bitterness, and a bready note.

M: Very enjoyable mouthfeel. Easy to drink.

Overall, this is an above average from Kuhnhenn. Wasn't huge on the (overly) spicey flavor of the beer, but still an enjoyable beer to wash down some burgers and pretzels.

On tap at Kuhnhenn. Pours a brilliant golden-yellow color with decent clarity and a very minor chill haze, a nice stream of carbonation bubbles flying up from the bottom of the glass to the thin, ghost-white head on the top of the beer.

The aroma is pretty light at first and kind of hard to pick anything out, possibly because the beer is a bit too cold. As it warms up, the aromas finally start to come out; faint grains, light musky hops, leafs, and light apple skins. Refreshing and crisp overall, something you expect out of a Kolsch. There's also a very light spice somewhere in the background, but I can't quite put my finger on what it is.

As I take a sip, I think I've found out what that spice is - there's a mild peppercorn flavor to it, almost giving the beer a "chili" like flavor. I know that sounds ridiculous, but it works, and it's light enough to occur elegantly.

There's solid leafy hoppage all the way through with a mild bitterness that snaps the tongue quickly and fades out almost as quick. Light metallic flavor on the tail end, but not an upsetting amount. Heavy blankets of grains and crisp apple skins, all the way from the start and strong into the aftertaste. Crisp, dry mouth feel - thin bodied with medium carbonation.

A very delightful Kolsch with a nice, relaxing hop profile and mild fruitiness, as well as a unique peppery spice. Easy to drink - something that would be perfect on a hot day or basically anytime you wish to drink copious amounts of alcohol without the palate wrecking characteristics of most popular ales.

On tap at Kuhnhenn, served in a pint glass.

Hazy straw yellow, good retention and mild lace. Nose of light dry cereals, and grains. Taste has some dry graininess, a touch of lemon (but not sour), dry cereally finish. Lighter medium feel and medium high carbonation, mild bitterness. Mild flavour but extremely drinkable, hits the style exceptionally and is something I could devour growlers of.

Somewhat transparent golden yellow color with about a half finger head. A faint hop aroma with a little graininess. Upon tasting, the first that is picked up are grapes. Slight graininess is picked up in the taste and also subtle bitterness from the hops. Finishes a little sweet. Also a slight amount of crispness in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium and well carbonated. Overall a great beer and a great session ale. Congrats to Phil as this is a great beer.

I have not reviewed a beer for quite some time.
This beer got me back in to it!

As a patron of Kuhnhenns for as long as i can remember, it was nice to see a beer there that i could have more than one(or two or three)of.

A – Poured out a light and bright golden color with two fingers of bright white head that stuck around and left a nice lacing.

S – Bready, malty and light smelling with definite citrus notes with a bit of lemon. Light sweet aroma maybe honey?

T – Very subtle lemon flavor to start right off. Earthy hops follow up with a nice light sweet flavor that taste like honey and light sweet sugar. Light on the hops but it shows at the end.

M – Crisp and clean with a light body and great carbonation.

O – Excellent refreshing brew here. Absolutely perfect on a hot summer day or to start off a session. Solid taste with a lot more flavor than most Kölsch’s that I have had.

Solid 5 in this category

On-tap at Kuhnhenn as part of a sample platter. 5oz stange.

A - White foam settles to a partial cap and thick collar, leaving behind a few thin fingers of lacing. Transparent pale golden body.

S - This was initially served too cold I think, as the aroma was quite faint, but over time notes of white grapes and cereal grains came out.

T - The taste has a bit more pop to it, with a bit of earthiness and vinous white grapes rounding out the dominant flavor of cereal grains. Very clean, with fairly low bitterness in the finish.

M - Light bodied, with a slight graininess to the dry texture. Fairly active carbonation, with a pleasantly juicy finish.

D - A very nice Kölsch. You could certainly drink a lot of this on a hot summer day. I've had some fresh, authentic German takes on this style, and Sully's doesn't give up any ground to them.

The beer has a light, clear appearance and a fresh, clean, smooth taste. It is the perfect session beer. This is the best Kolsch beer I have ever had. You do not find too many microbreweries that produce this style of beer, so it was a refreshing treat.

Brilliant clarity with a delicate white head retention.

Light pilsen malt nose. Low noble hop with hints of fruits from fermentation.

Crisp with a nice soft rounded palate of fruity notes from fermentaion and a delicate dryness. Low bitterness makes this crisp ale a thirst quenching session beer.

Medium Light body. Medium carbonation. Really smooth and crisp.

Overall, this is probably one of the best beers I have ever tried. Cheers!!! =]
