Notes:
This Triple Bock is dark brown with ruby highlights. It is extremely rich and complex, with flavors of raisin, plum. There is a slight heat from alcohol and has low carbonation. It is full bodied, malty and sweet– you big beer lovers should try this beer.

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter. 2011 bottle.
Appearance - Ruby caramel. No head. Just a few stray bubbles.
Smell - Deep rich caramel. Very fruity. Boozy as hell, no surprise. Lots of raisins.
Taste - Less sweet than the nose implies. Sweet up front, but it drops off to a much deeper raisin and earthy malt flavor. Some bitterness. Boozy.
Mouthfeel - Well it's boozy as hell. Hot and low carbonation. Sipper for sure.
Overall - I know it's supposed to be boozy, but this is pretty harsh. I hesitate to say I wish it were sweeter.

A - Pours a dark cherry brown color with no head and a miniscule uber thin lacing ring. This looks like a glass full of the dead sea.
S - Molasses, oak, raisins, brown sugar, figs, prunes, and bourbon.
T - Raisins, figs, prunes, oak, brown sugar, molasses, plumbs, and bourbon. (Directly follows the nose, no doubt.) Some alcohol warming on the way down and leaves a thick coating in the mouth of brown sugar, molasses, and plumbs.
M - Thick and full bodied, sticky, somewhat syrupy, velvety.
O - Complex and a smooth sipper that will creep up on you very quickly. The extreme nature pushes the envelope way beyond the style and I'd much prefer a more traditional Doppelbock.

Bottling year = 2011
A: deep copper color, ever-so-slight haze, poured with head but dissipated (not surprising for 12.5% ABV)
S: medium nose, deep treacle, sweet, port-like
T:extremely rich, deep caramelized malt, high ABV but smooth and mellow with just a touch of heat, reminded me of aged EKU28
M: deep body, rich, full, slightly cloying

2011 Edition
A: Pours a cloudy mahogany in color with some amber highlights and just a touch of visible carbonation. The beer has a quarter finger tall creamy dark beige head that reduces fairly quickly to medium patch of extremely thin film and a very thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate aromas of sweet malts including toffee and brown sugar.
T: Moderate to strong flavors of sweet malts including dark fruit (raisin), brown sugar, and toffee.
M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation. Light amounts of alcohol warming in the finish.
O: Overall for as high in alcohol as this beer is, it is fairly well hidden with only a light presence in the mouthfeel. The beer needs to be slipped slowly but is enjoyable.

12 ounce bottle into signature tulip glass, Winter 2011 vintage. Pours hazy very dark reddish brown color with a small foamy khaki head with poor retention, that reduces to a ring of lace instantly. Ni glass lacing, and a fair amount of alcohol legs. Aromas of huge raisin, prune, caramel, toffee, molasses, toast, licorice, dark bread, earth, light nuttiness, wood, and light bourbon. Damn nice aromas with good balance, strength, and complexity of malty flavors. Taste of big raisin, prune, dried fruit skin, licorice, toffee, molasses, caramel, toast, dark bread, leather, light nuttiness, wood, light bourbon, and earthiness. No bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark fruits, toffee, molasses, caramel, toast, dark bread, leather, light nuttiness, wood, earth, and light bourbon on the finish for a while. Damn nice balance and complexity of malty flavors; with almost zero cloying sweetness present on the finish. Light carbonation and very full bodied; with a creamy, slick, and lightly syrupy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent imperial bock style. Great balance and complexity of malt flavors; and quite smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

12oz. bottle poured into a snifter. 2011 vintage.
(A)- Pours a nearly black - dark/ burnt sienna color. Produced a light layer of tan froth. Surprising considering the large 12.5% ABV.
(S)- Very dense and dark raisin, molasses, and burnt caramel. Bits of cocoa with notes of licorice increasing as it warms.
(T)- Wow, some VERY up front licorice and raisin characters. Some deep burnt caramel and vanilla sweetness on the finish. Very rich throughout. Seriously though, alot of licorice in this.
(M)- A smooth carbonation level. Overall, it is very rich and sweet but surprisingly not cloying. Extremely well integrated ABV. For how big this is, I do not get a feel of it being syrup or as thick as I expected; quite smooth actually.
(O)- Overall, if you like tons of licorice, this might be your holy grail. Despite that, I was quite impressed with how well balanced this is while still keeping it toned down in the thickness of what it could be as well as the expertly well integrated alcohol. Reminds me of a more balanced, less alcoholic Samichlaus.

12oz bottle poured into Founders snifter. Thanks to Anonymous1 for this one! '11 Vintage. Served lightly chilled.
A- Pours a dark ruby red that appears almost an opaque dark purplish black in the glass. Pretty much no head to speak of even though poured somewhat aggressively. Fairly low carbonation but consistent.
S- Sweet malts and lots of dark fruits- prunes, plums, cherries, raisins, apples, some booze. Decently aromatic and pleasantly sweet, booze is fairly subtle for 12.5%.
T- Sweet malts and dark fruits of cherries and prunes. Finishes with even more dark fruits with plums, raisins, a hint of chocolate and tobacco, and a bit of booze. Nice lingering aftertaste of raisins, sweet dark cherries. Well balanced, nicely layered, and very complex.
M- Medium bodied to a little bit thick, decent carbonation, subtle alcohol warmth, but very easy drinking considering the abv.
O- Not only is this the perfect beer for the sub-zero night we are having but it is also one of the best bocks I've had. There was an extremely nice complexity in this with just the right sweetness and alcohol warmth to make you feel it but not detract too much from the taste. I definitely recommend checking this out if you like high abv beers with a nice sweet dark fruit complexity.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a pint glass. This is the 2011 brew.
Appearance: dark, rich caramel brown hue with plenty of haze and the thinnest layer of tan foam. Described as a low-carbonation beer, this shouldn't be surprising. Still, it's quite nice to look at.
Smell: deep, complex malt aroma with a rich sweetness, raisin, date and cherry notes. Quite good indeed.
Taste: raisin and date back to the fore, followed by a definite alcohol bite. Rich creamy caramel pervades the palate, and the deep fruity flavors accentuate that base. Along with that, there is nothing here really off-putting; it's a doppelbock with a little finesse.
Mouthfeel: not enough carbonation to be creamy, but the thick body has a rich silkiness which is quite satisfying indeed. I like it a lot.
Overall: I am really enjoying this beer. I'm not always a fan of the style, probably because it's such a hard one to get right. Kuhnhenn has got this one right.

2011 vintage. Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Pipeworks snifter.
A- pours a hazy, dark amber with no head retention. No lacing.
S- dark fruits (raisins, prunes), candi sugar, alcohol.
T- sweet malts, candi sugar, raisins and warming alcohol.
M- full body and low carbonation. Thick and semi- dry with warming feel at the finish.
O- still pretty hot for being a year or so old. It's no Aventinus eisbock but pretty good and would like to try a 2 or 3 year old bottle.
