Granite Package Store is tucked away in a very unsuspecting shopping plaza. After reading all the stellar reviews in BA, I had to check it out for myself.
The beer selection is in the back of the store. There is no doubt about it, this place has a serious selection of craft beers from all over. Awesome representation of the american heavy hitters (Avery, Great Divide, Dogfish Head, Sierra Nevada, Stone, Lagunitas, Berkshire Brewing, etc) as well as beers from Germany and Belgium and other countries.
I ended up getting a six pack of 21st Amendment Brew Free! or Die IPA, Great Divide Smoked Baltic Porter and Captain Swain's Extra Stout.
Prices are par for the course. It sounds like others have had some great customer service here, my experience was straightforward. The guy at the counter was efficient and friendly enough. Definitely a good store with an extensive selection.
I went to Union Brewhouse afterwards, which makes for a great Weymouth 1-2 punch.

Upped the marks on this on July 30-2010. John the beer manager has really upped the quality and the customer service is outstanding. This has really become one of those drive to stores on the south shore. I left my initial review in here for review's sake though.
Went to Granite Liquors for a tasting last Friday and I was impressed with this little gem. The selection is impressive for a store of this size. They have a full aisle of warm beer and several coolers. Most of the beer prices were reasonable if not slightly cheaper than what I would expect. The best part is that they have a wide variety of singles on about eight shelves that you can mix a six for a flat rate of $11 after tax. While they do not have all their beer there, they have a great variety from Clipper City, Sierra Nevada, Ithaca, and more. Some of the bottle were a bit old and dusty, however most were fresh. The service was friendly and helpful. If I lived in the area, I would go there often.

This place is unassuming nestled in a plaza in Weymouth, MA, but like the other reviews posted I agree this place has an absolutely amazing craft beer selection. Out of places I've been to on the south shore, I'd have to say this one of the top places to buy beer. I never did the mix a six, but I found it nice that they had that as an option. I picked up things such as Rogue, Stone, Souther Tier, Ithaca, and Delerium Tremens. I lived In Weymouth-closer to Curtis Liquors so I often went there, but when I went to Granite I was always impressed. I definitely recommend checking this place out.

I used to live in Weymouth, right down the street from here for about a year or so and it was my standby place. I was pretty new into beer and they had one of those mix-a-six locations on an end-cap and I was a fan. The selection wasn't huge, but decent when I went. Had mostly the heavy hitter New England Products with and general crowd pleasers. I came by today cause I was in the area and was most impressed. The selection has seriously increased. They went from a cooler and a few end caps to adding a whole aisle and doubled the selection on that mix a six end cap. They have good craft beer from all over the country, all the great expected brews like Stone, Rogue, Founders, Avery, Anchor Steam and many many more and quite a few selections from each brew. Their import selection increased big time. Having great stuff like Hobgoblin, Chimay, Delerium Tremmons, Samuel Smith, and the list continues. The prices were pretty reasonable, I've found some of their stuff cheaper at other places, but some of there other stuff was pretty cheap too. I gotta say I was impressed how neat the beer aisle was, everything was perfectly lined up as if a perfectionist set it up. I ended up just going with a mix a six today and there was a lot of good stuff in there. They had Troeg's, Samuel Smith, Great Divide, Anchor Steam, Sierra Nevada, Sam Adams, Boulder, Avery and many more. A little pricy $10.50 for it, but the selection is better than at most places. The service was pretty good too, the main worker I saw there today saw me strolling around for a while (I didn't expect to be there as long as I did) and asked if I needed any help and I explained to him I haven't been there in a few years and couldn't believe how much the beer selection expanded. He said they've really tried hard to get more beer there and if I had trouble finding anything than they can generally try to order it. I thought that was some pretty good customer service.
This is now my number one place to go. Customrer service gets a 6/5

This is a very cool craft beer store down in Weymouth, MA on Route 53. Stop by if in the area to check out this place.
The store is split into two, alcohol and wine on the left, and all craft beer and normal beer on the right and in the back. Everything is well organized and somewhat organized together based on region and/or country. If you can't find something John or somebody else can give you a hand.
The quality of beer this is great. They do great volume, so the beer is fresh and doesn't sit aorund for too long. You can even make your own six packs and buy a mystery case of singles. I have had scored on some good beers in those cases for a reasonable case price. They even have hard to find Belgium and Northern European beers too that you can't anywhere else in the area.
The service in the store is good. John is a very knowledgeable beer consultant for the store and has brought in beers that you can't find anywhere else in the area. He knows a lot about beers from everywhere around the world and get something particular if you are looking for it.
Since they do great volume, they have the advantage of offering beers at reasonable prices that are one of the best in the whole area.
This place is a little gem in the Shaw's plaza of Weymouth that is worth the visit. It is extremely hard to figure out what I want to buy sometime due to the great selction they have.

A craft beer lover's paradise! The store is clean and organized, most bottles and sections are labelled clearly, and the service is impeccable!
Incredible selection of Belgians, other imports, New England brews, and West Coast specialties. And guess what...picked up a 4-pack of Founders Breakfast Stout that they had in the back! They keep rare and special beer in the back to keep the poachers and traders at bay. The guy with the red beard is one of the most helpful and knowledgeable beer guys I have ever talked to at a liquor store.
Most bottles are clean and in good shape. There were a few dusty ones that hadn't been touched in a while. They had a lot of Red Racer IPA and SN Estate to name a few of the standouts. I'm surprised the Estate hasn't been snatched up because it's so delicious and it's a fresh hop beer, but it's pretty expensive no matter where you find it. The prices at Granite are fantastic!
In conclusion, there isn't a better place on the South Shore to buy craft beer and I'd say it's up there with Julio's in Westborough. Although Julio's has a larger selection, it's also a much bigger store and the service at Granite puts it on the same level. I was given the owner's business card and was told to call/email any time I'm looking for something special. Very impressed. Plus, The Union Brewhouse is just down the street so stop in there as well!

Whenever I am in the area I always stop by this store. Driving by one would assume it is your typical liquor store next to a grocery store, but this place is far from your typical liquor store. It is not the neatest or cleanest looking store, but who cares with the selection they have got here.
There is a huge selection of imports, local, and US craft. The selection here in unmatched in the South Shore. I'm from Cape Cod, and no store on or near it can touch this place in overall quality. Beer is roughly organized by country so it is easy to find what you are looking for. Everything is well priced and cheaper than the other stores I am familiar with.
John, the bearded guy, knows his stuff and is really friendly. He won't mind helping you at all, and will give you some good discounts too when you are buying a lot. The rest of the staff are nice and know a good thing or two about craft as well.
Coming from the Cape this place is awesome. It makes the rest of the South Shore and the Cape look like chump change. Unfortunately this store is an hour drive from my house, but it is definitely worth driving up.

Just like Milwaukee's fabled "discount liquor"...where did these guys find this stuff?
Outside is unassuming, to be honest I would have never stopped by except it was recommended (big thanks BTW for the speedy responses to my forum post).
Sour/wild/geuze fans will be in heaven. Cantillon, Fonteine as far as the eye could see. INCREDIBLE import section overall. One of the best I've seen. A huge supply of Dieu Du Ciel, Mikkeller, Nogne-O, lots of my favorites and a huge variety within that scope! Truly remarkable selection of Belgians, Scandinavian and some wonderful/hard to find French beers I love as well.
A real winner of a shop. Nice guys (not fascists about my out-of-state ID), and again...that import selection is to KILL for. I will be back tomorrow & whenever I visit Braintree to see my family. Outstanding.

As noted in other reviews, while Granite may look like a crappy strip mall packie next to a grocery store, looks are deceiving. They offer an extensive selection of beers and often have hard-to-find stuff on the shelf. The prices are right where they should be, and they often will discount mixed cases of bombers-a nice touch.
One caveat-they often allow older, out-of-code beer to linger on the shelf. Unlike other places, they will act upon this issue if brought to their attention, but still one should always check for bottling dates when buying IPAs and other styles that are not suitable for aging.
That said, you often find aged stouts and old ales that are in their prime, and can be reasonably assured that they have been treated well during their time at Granite.
Nice, helpful folks behind the counter, too. I stop by whenever I'm in the neighborhood.

Has been the closest beer store to me for a while, but never had anything beyond Sam and Harpoon. Until now! Steadily built up a solid micro section. They have a whole aisle dedicated to micros and it is growing. Decent selection in the cooler as well. Plenty of bombers kept cold. Complete lineup of dogfish, Lagunitas, Stone etc. Everything is kept neat and dusted, I noticed. They are trying to get the craft beer buyers in there and they are doing a good job now! Ask them if you want something different, too. They seem to want feedback and ideas for new beers!
