This is my first foreign/export stout, so here goes:

Into a nonic:

A: dark black body with a two and a half finger tan foamy head. The head must have lasted at least a good three minutes. What a show I had just watching the intricate bubbles pop out from the sides of the glass into the head while a light foamy lacing appeared as the head dissipated.

S: great combination between the chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, and barley.

T: all of the previously mentioned smells in the flavoring combined very nicely.

M: medium with a slight watery feel. It still felt pretty good on the tongue.

O: I'm pretty much blown away because I didn't think this was going to be this good. This is quite impressive, however, I still feel as each new style presents itself to me that I need to have others just so I can compare.

Appearance - Dark Opaque Black with a very dark brown head. I'm also seeing a good amount of lacing along the sides.

Smell - Chocolate/Cocoa, Coffee, Roasted Malts, & Barley. It's been a couple of years since I had an actual Guinness, but this smells alot maltier than before

Taste - Yeasts, Chocolate, Mocha, Malts, Barley and some faint hops. Each flavor is surprisingly rich and complimentary to each other. I'm not sure if it's the fact I'm drinking from a glass this time around but this is pretty tasty!

Mouthfeel - Light bodied and light in carbonation, totally not what I was expecting considering the beer style. It does, however, make this very easy to drink.

Overall - I enjoyed this quite a bit! I was surprised that such a world renowned beer brand could deliver such a tasty and well balanced beer. Definitely wouldn't mind having this again

Beers pours a mysterious jet black with a nice off brown head.

Aroma is complex, burnt toast ad sugar, chocolate, coffee, very nice.

The beer tastes of roasted, more burnt sugar, and some alcohol at the finish.

Excellent creamy full mouthfeel.

Overall this is the perfect example of a stout. It just goes above and beyond in every catagory and really is a treat to drink. It is refreshing and warming at the same time if that is at all possible.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice dark brown foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with light sweet notes is pretty good. Taste is a nice mix between some solid roasted malt with dry notes and some light sweet undertones. Body has somewhat of a creamy texture with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. This is definitely a step-up from the regular Guinness.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

This is, without question, one of the best beers I’ve ever had. The only part about it that was less than fantastic was the bottle was only 11.2 oz. It pours a deep dark, opaque brown, nearly black. Smells roasty, almost, but not quite like coffee. It’s hoppy, and strong, smooth on the tongue. I can’t say enough. This is truly a special beer.

11.2 Oz bottle poured into a SA pint glass

A- Pours black with clear red around the edges. A tall brown, tan thick head with good retention.

S- A big bitter roastyness up front. Some hoppyness. A bit of chocolate and toffee. A sweet milkiness like in a milk stout.

T- I get a bit of roastedness up front that leaves behind a roasty/smokey aftertaste. There is a bitterness to this beer that I cant quite put my finger on. There is some fruity qualities that believe it or not, remind me of banana bread. A very roasty beverage.

M- Goes down pretty smooth and creamy. It leaves behind a dry roasted aftertaste.

O- This is pretty good, much better then the watery stuff we get here in the US. I also dont think my bottle was that fresh so I was somewhat optimistic in my rating.

Dark chocolate brown with two fingers of frothy tan head. The head has good retention and there are thick lace rings on the glass as this baby goes down.

There is some roast in the nose, but a touch of sweet wine is present as well. Roasted malt is the basis of the flavor profile and there is a pleasing roasted bitterness on the finish.

The body is a tad thin, but this is by far the best version of Guinness that is available.

I have been looking for this beer for a very long time and finally found one here in the US. Bought this four pack in Key West of all places.

Pours from the bottle pitch black, much darker than the traditional Guinness stout. Topped with a rather dark, mocha colored creamy head. Lacing abounds and the retention is great as well.

Aroma is quite roasty with dark fruit undertones. Not a whole lot of coffee but there is a touch of light coffee thrown in the mix.

Nice flavor. More of the robust roastiness with some burnt charcoal (as opposed to unburnt) and burnt wood. Overall, a burnt taste that is neither offensive nor overly distasteful. There is a bit of acridness to this one that really tweaks on the taste buds. Starts out smooth and silky and finishes like sucking on aspirin; very long finish.

I havent had many FES but this one was a treat. I think I like this better than the original. A very nice, different beer.

Saw a standard Guinness on the menu at a bar on the island of Grenada and must to my liking, this was presented to me (albeit in bottle form). It seems smoother and more aromatic than the standard, and maybe even more coffee flavoured.
When I got back to the States, I tried a Guinness Stout to compare, and it made the difference much more clear.
a-The appearance is a thing of beauty and though commercialized, is probably still my favourite looking beer. A true 5.0 for me!
s-its a Guinness but just a little bit deeper. Lot's of coffee.
t-smooth, easy to drink, pairs with nearly any hardy food.
m-i found myself drinking quite slowly and savoring each sip.

Pours deeply dark brown with a nice, creamy head of tan resting luxuriantly atop. Good lace.
Smell is roasted malt, vanilla, cocoa and interestingly, green apples. Well balanced and more complex than the other Guinness stouts I've had.
Taste is toasty malt, dark chocolate, vanilla, some whiskey in the aftertaste. Really well balanced.
Fairly full bodied, light effervescence. Fairly smooth and creamy as well. Much, much better than "regular" Guinness. I would have this again willingly.

A: Pours a deep black color forming a nice and huge beige head. Fizzing carbonation going up and some lacings left around the glass. Medium retention but the head never disappears completely

S: Good. Roasted malts. Coffee notes. Wood. Ginness hops. Alcohol

T: As the nose, roasted malts, coffee notes, wood notes, dark chocolate notes, earthy hops. A sweet upfront and a roasted bitter (considerable) aftertaste

M: Creamy body. Good carbonation. Sweet upfront. Molasses sensation. Aftertaste is dry and bitter

O: Absolutely drinkable. Great beer. Recommended

A bottle to pint glass

The pour yield a jet black nearly opaque body. Its croundedxwith a whispy light tan head. There is coffee and cocao powder in the nose. The malt is definatly roasted and is pretty nice but not over bearing or bitter. The taste does have some bite between the medium carbonation and body movin into the malt. It carries a big taste without the big characteristics with makes it approachable. A solid brew and about as sessionable as the style permits.

11.2oz bottle poured into a snifter, pours black with a frothy beige head that leaves good retention and lacing on the glass. Aromas are chocolate, nibs, roasted barley, molasses, and caramel. Tastes are molasses, roasty, sweet, dark chocolate, delicately hopped, yet has a roasty bitterness, lots of fig and date in there as well. Mouth is on the thinner side of medium, but is creamy and smooth. Overall, one of the better foreign stouts out there. Guinness needs to just brew this one, it's by far their best.

Pours jet black with a light chocolate brown head. In the aroma, a light roast. In the taste, a small roast and a small bite. A small bite and a lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a small dry small roast in the aftertaste. Eh! Lack of flavor and aroma, honestly, nothing exciting at all.

Bottle is at least a year old.

A: Pours pitch black with a very large and fluffy medium brown head. Fades slowly, leaving huge puffs of lacing everywhere.

S: Fruity. Prunes, raisin, figs, cherries and black licorice. Don't really get any roasted malt character.

T: Again, very fruity. Prunes are the strongest, oddly enough. Lots of black licorice. Some roasted malt character with some big char but not much else. Very smoky in the aftertaste especially.

M: Medium bodied, slick and smooth.

O: Interesting foreign stout, it's mostly char and dark fruits. Almost no coffee or chocolate. Fairly bitter even with a year+ on it. It's not terrible but not what I typically look for in a stout. I think I prefer regular guiness draught over this, amusingly enough.

11.2oz bottle poured into a NB globe

A: The beer pours a jet black with a large fluffy coco head that had great retention. A sticky trail of lacing is left throughout the session.

S: Deep scents of char and roasted malt accompany a slight dark fruit/raisin base. The slightest hint of hop.

T: Roasted malt creates a fairly bitter profile up front with hints of coffee and chocolate playing on the pallet throughout each sip. A touch of sweetness and molasses comes forward as it warms.

M: The carbonation is spot on and it carries this full bodied stout to perfection. The finish is really dry on the pallet which I love.

O: Overall this is an excellent stout and easily the most flavorful Guinness offering I've had to date. Good stuff.

Appearance. Pours a deep, deep brown with almost two fingers of thick, light tan head.

Smell. Molasses, dark malts and caramel. Some grassy hops and a little bit of ripe dark fruit.

Taste. Molasses dominate, some dark malts and chocolate and a little bit of bitterness in the end. A little bit sweet.

Mouthfeel. Almost medium body with medium+ carbonation.

Overall. Alcohol was well hidden so this drank easy. A good stout, I'd drink it again.

A- Black as pitch, and no light coming through even when held up to the light. the head, which is a medium to light tan in color, poured just over 2 fingers thick, but then settles down to about three quarters of a finger. leaves a nice bit of foamy lace behind too.

N- Roasted, almost burnt malt all day long, and definite chocolate scent in the mix as well. there is also a bit of a floral aroma, likely from the generous amount of hops that Guinness claims to brew this with.

T- Roasted malts, dark fruits like dates or perhaps raisins, chocolate flavor, all dancing a beautiful ballet on my palate. the floral taste from the hops shows up near the finish, and lingers, although the malt does come back at the end. it has a lovely bitterness to it, mostly roasted malt, but also a nice bit from the hops too. there is a subtle heat from the alcohol too, but it does not overpower any of the rest of the flavors, at all.

M- gets off to a very smooth start, then gets a bit more crisp from carbonation as it goes along, then ends up on again on a smooth, albeit bitter note. it takes you on an absolutely lovely ride.

O- The staple of the style. complex in flavor, mouthfeel, nose, and even the appearance is perfect. this is quite a beer. I have to say I'm sold. Huge fan of this.

Poured into an Irish style pint glasses. Very dark brown color. Medium sized white head. Lots of roasted notes in the nose. Taste was much more rich than the traditional Guinness. Mouthfeel was also thicker, and you could really notice the additional alcohol. Also, not as bitter as the Extra Stout available in the US. But, this seems to be less memorable than the same FES I had down in the Caribbean -- not as "exotic".

A: Dark black with a fluffy, smooth, slowly-receding, off-white head. Traditional but good-looking Stout.

S: Heavily roasted malt and bittersweet chocolate. Slight hops and alcohol. Earthy, smoky, charred. Nice.

T: Fits the style very well. Roasted, charred malt with a bitter, malty, chocolaty finish. Faint presence of coffee, hops, and booze.

M: Smooth, little carbonation. Good, roasted flavor sticks to your palate. And enjoyable beer to drink.

O: So much different from the Guinness Draught that we are all accustomed to. Granted, it's a different style but it hits that style on the head. Delicious beer.

Appearance - Pours a deep black with only the brightest of lights penetrating the thinnest of edges. Thick, pillowy 3 finger head, good retention, and the resulting lace is thick and sticky.

Smell - Classic European stout aromas; sweet, but roasty malt, and a bit of hoppiness.

Flavor - Follows the nose. Malts are sweet, with a complimentary roastiness. Hops kick in mid-taste and ride the wave into the aftertaste, but never dominate the affair.

Mouthfeel - Medium to full body. Creamy and smooth, but also a touch dry on the finish. Outstanding mouthfeel for a beer of this caliber.

Overall - Not that much different than the Guinness Extra Stout which is widely available, and at a lower price. I'd say this one's a tad smoother, but the difference is nearly negligible.

A: half finger head on a deep black body.

S: full roasted malt with nice espresso/ coffee note.

T: very nice roasted sweet malts with coffee, cocoa and dark chocolate notes. More complex than expected.

M: moderate carbonation and moderate to full body.

Overall: this is a very nice beer for what it is. Flavorful and complex.

A-Black...tan head...looks the part...

S-Smells rich and decadent with some soy sauce impression....a good dusting of cocoa powder as well..

T-A nice flavor to this leaning toward the cocoa and not so much the burnt malts....low hop impression...

M-Creamy and velvety....light side of full bodied but I'd toss it in the full bodied realm..

O-I've heard of this beer and when I finally saw it I jumped at it...a bit pricey but worth trying and I like it...sweeter...almost a bit like an imperial milk stout....if you want a big west coast style Impy stout like some this is not it but it is a good beer...shit if they poured this out of the Guiness taps at all the bars I would definitely reach for it...

Imagine my surprise at finding this as a single in my neighbor's cooler (I live across the lot from a bottle shop)! I snagged it right up and have been looking forward to this one for several days.

From the bottle: "Foreign Extra Stout is brewed with generous hops and roasted barley for a bittersweet balance and full-flavored, natural bite. Developed for global exportfrom Ireland, the addition of extra hops ensured this Stout would arrive in perfect condition. Today, it is enjoyed by millions around the world."

My heavy-handed pour caused me a moment of consternation as I thought that it was going to overflow the rim of the glass as it seemed to cascade. The dense, deep-tan head looked like the top of an ice cream float. Color was a deep, dark-brown with cola highlights at the edges. The nose was very chocolaty with an underlying roastiness. Mouthfeel was medium with a definite hop/roasted barley bite on the tongue. This taste, along with its relatively high ABV, was a real revelation for this self-avowed hophead. This was not a Black IPA, but instead a hoppy dry stout. Wow! Finish was very dry, almost gaspingly so and I could not wait until my next sip. Definitely worth giving a try!
