Guinness was one of the first beers I was able to drink, but I've never had the extra stout. Here goes!
A- Looks like the usual Guinness; pitch black with the iconic tan head. Minimal lacing.
S- I'm not sure how to describe the smell, though I'm not getting much. Smells like normal Guinness is the best I can come up with here.
T- Tastes better than Guinness Draught! It's a bit creamier and not as dry. Irish dry stouts aren't my favorite and this tastes better than the last few I've had.
M- Not too thick or watery, just right. Same as Guinness Draught, it seems.
Overall, if I'm ever limited to Guinness at a non-craft sort of place, I'd take this over the original draught.

Appearance - Pours almost identical to flat Coca Cola. 1/2 finger of head disappeared almost instantly.
Smell - Chocolately malt
Taste - Roasted malt, distant hints of dark chocolate and espresso, a little watery, medium carbonation, bitter finish.
Mouthfeel - Light, with a wet finish.
Overall - Not bad for a basic stout. Would drink again. Sure, there are better options out there, but for $7.99 a sixer, it's hard to go wrong with this one from time to time.

Poured near black with a nice looking but thin fluffy tan head. This lacing will be good.
Scent is malty and there's a cherry/banana-like ester smell, some grain.
The taste picks up right from the smell, but then whoa the roasted finish. It's like the fruits are darker than the ester-like aspect of them in the smell, and they blend and lead-in to the dry finish in a nice way. I get "sweet dry roast" out of this brew, and somewhat astringent, puckering & earthy. I'd enjoy this beer more if it the grains didnt come off so astringent to me throughout this pint I drank. There was a lingering aspect of what is termed as "Acetaldehyde", although to me in a dark fruity kind of way (cherry) and not in the green apple-sense of the term's usual meaning/ description.

12 oz. brown bottle. Brewed & Bottled in Canada.
S: Pours a deep black with a foamy tan head, about one finger.
Nice retention until the end. Lacing is good, not great. Overall
this stout looks enticing.
S: Sharp sweetness with roasted coffee and other grains. Mild
hops. This could be better.
T/M: Smooth, creamy with a semi-crisp feel. Sweet, flavorful
malts. Hops are present, but small. They do bring in a nice
bitterness. Roasted/burnt flavors. Sweet to dry finish.
O: A pretty basic stout, with good taste and a great look. Better
than Guinness Drought. Easy to drink. lets just say I would never
turn one of these down.
Cheers!!

Single finger tan head with nice lacing on a deep brown body with a little light getting through. Aroma of vanilla, brown sugar, roasted malts. Flavor is fairly bitter due to roasted malts and espresso. Sweetness comes from vanilla and brown sugar. These flavors are very well balanced though. Medium to full body and moderate carbonation. Despite the bitterness this one is still pretty refreshing and clean. I think I like this one more than Guiness draught.

Pours a deep brown color, almost ruby in some spots allowing light to shine through without too much trouble; khaki head, doesn't last for long and doesn't leave any lacing behind on the glass. The aroma is faint and difficult to pick up on; roasted barley, malts, grains, and honestly not much else. You might be able to say mocha or coffee, but I'm just not getting any of it. Maybe some very, very faint, dark fruit sweetness, but that's about it. Taste delivers a bit more than the aroma; roasted and charred malt and barley, toasted grains, nice alcohol presence, grapes, wine-like sweetness, slight bitter coffee; hop profile is dry, ashy, and proves to be more bitter than expected, but not overwhelming. The alcohol flavor is surprisingly noticeable despite being only 6% ABV. Medium body with a medium-high amount of carbonation; the brew finishes very dry and almost even crisp on the palate.
Not the best offering out there, but I would choose this over the Guinness Draught almost any day (unless my goal was to drink as much beer as possible).

Bottle from some dump bodega around Inwood. Notes from 12/25/10.
Thin, matte black color. A gentle khaki head.
Smells of licorice & charred bread. Simple enough.
Watered down coffee & toasted brown bread, with anise drawing from the middle on through to the end.
Soft texture, but it burns a bit going down.
Solid, if somewhat bland.

Grabbed this one in a "make your own six pack." No freshness date. I drank it slow, and allowed it to warm a little.
Appearance: Dark brown color with a healthy finger of tan head. Mild lacing.
Smell: Rich roasted malts mostly.
Taste: Super rich malts with a nicely bitter aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Extra Stout is smooth beer. Medium-full bodied.
Overall: I'll start by saying that the American "Guinness Draught" does not exist for me. This is Guinness. It's a nice stout that I enjoy occasionally. There are better choices, but Guinness Extra Stout always tastes good.

T: Dark Mildly Roasted Malts, Mild Dark Chocolate
M: Great Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Mildly Drying

A: Very dark, almost completely black but allowing a strong light to shine revealing a very dark brow with a deep garnet hue and good clarity. The persistent light-tan head is made of compact bubble.
S: Moderate coffee and dark molasses aromas with some roasted barley notes. There are no hops nor diacetyl aromas. A light dark fruit aroma as well.
T: Well there the moderate roast with a grainy sharpness right up front per style. There is a moderately-low flavor of unsweetened chocolate along with a some molasses. The is a moderately-light hops bitterness and no perceived hops flavor. The balance between bitter and sweet is about even. The finish is dry with a coffee like aftertaste.
M: It seems kind of thin even though it's medium to medium-full bodied with a moderate carbonation.
O: It seems pretty fruity for the style but it's the way my brain adds the molasses and the dark to seem stronger than they really are.

Draft Beer in a Guinness glass of course.
Appearance: Wonderful dark dark brown with creamy cream colored head.
Smell: Don't know...
Taste: Yum!!! Yeah - that's all I got.
Mouthfeel: Creamy goodness!!!
Overall: Currently my favorite beer. I have not found anything that beat the appearance, taste, mouthfeel or overall experience of a Guinness.

As a lover of stout, this Irish-brewed beer will always be a go-to for me. Obviously nothing beats a Guinness on draught, but I have had them out of a 12oz bottle and the pint can with a CO2 cartridge in it. It is a very dark, opaque with a swirling bronze color amidst its black depths. After pour it has a thick, frothy two-three finger head that leaves a heavy lacing. The smell alerts one to the bitterness in this stout, and it holds true to that promise, as it is a heavy, dark, toffee, and nutty taste. The discerning drinker might even note a hint of caramel malts. While it goes great with food, one might even say a Guinness is a meal in itself because of its thickness. I would recommend this to any who prefer a darker, bitter glass for their pleasure. Another great drink with Guinness is a black and tan made with a Bass or other type of lighter ale for a delicious layered beverage. Enjoy one for the Olde Country!

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass.
A - Guinness. Blackish-brown, can't see through it. Finger and a half of pretty thick, creamy head. Decent lacing.
S - Malts, not much hops. Some chocolate and grains like barley. All with a slightly burnt taste. Toasty, maybe.
T - Along with the sensations listed in smell, there's some coffee taste, too. Hard to describe; I often find myself describing other beers and "Guinness-flavored" and have difficulty elaborating more.
M - This particular bottle had considerably more carbonation than I remember, but it's been awhile since I had the bottled Extra Stout vs. the bottled Draught. Smooth otherwise, a bit bitter.
O - Good stuff, but nothing beats a Guinness out of the tap.

Of all the beers you can purchase at a gas station, this remains my all-time favourite.
The appearance is solid - a dark opaque hue, nothing to sneeze at.
The smell and taste are equally strong: pungent hops with a slightly roasted finish.
I never tire of this beer, which is why - when I go to purchase a single beer - this remains my top choice. For the price, there are few choices, if any, that are better than this one.

22 oz bottle (brewed in Canuckistan by Moosehead) poured into a pint glass.
A: Pours a very dark brown color with great opacity. The head is a frothy three finger mocha color with decent texturing and excellent retention. There's quite a bit of lacing left down the glass.
S: There isn't much to write home about here. There's some chocolate, unrefined roasted barley, sweet fruit esters, and even a little bit of adjunct grains. Meh.
T: Thankfully, the taste improves upon the aroma. Tart red fruit esters are the first flavor noted on the tongue, while it gradually gives way to roasted astringency. Slightly charred on the finish and less sweet than Guinness Draught. Only subtle hints of grainy adjuncts really detract from the general experience.
M: Light and bone dry. It doesn't have the watery sensation the 'other' Guinness has, but it does feature insane drinkability. Carbonation is moderate to slightly high.
O: It's a great fallback beer, but it wouldn't be my first choice in other situations. Good stuff regardless, though.

A - Pours very dark as expected. Small tan head which settles rather quickly.
S - Very nice! Malty and a bit chocolaty. Not overly complex.
T - More complex than the smell, there is a bit of faint sweetness which almost has a cherry like quality that fades into a more bitter coffee like flavor. Not bad.
M - Nothing special. Lighter and less of a creamy feel than normal Guinness Dry Stout.
O - I think it's a bit better than the average stout, but it's nothing to go searching hard for either.

This is one of my favorite beers. I drank the first bottle without food however i paired the second with a chocolate croissant (odd combination) but it actually worked quite well and I discovered that this beer pairs quite well with dark chocolates.
A- the appearance is good, it pours black with pretty visible carbonation with a light brown 2 finger head. The head dissipates after around 3-4 minutes.
S- smell is the one aspect of this beer I feel is lacking. The smell is quite underwhelming compared to the complexity of the taste.
T- The one word that comes to mind is burnt, and i dont mean this in a bad way at all. The strong burnt flavor is wonderfully counterbalanced by a slight creaminess. Hints of caramel are also present.
M- Great mouthfeel, feels thick with a perfect amount of carbonation and there is no unpleasant aftertaste or residual "slimy" feeling
O- great beer and everyone should try this beer at least once. Not for everyone but someone who enjoys dark beer will appreciate this, I greatly prefer this to the regular Guinness

This pours a dark brown/black color with a slight light brown head. The scent is of roasted malts, cocoa, and caramel malts. The taste is rich and bold. There is a heavy complex taste but has an awkward chalky finish. This is a decent stout that can be found and tried pretty much anywhere in the world. As far as creativity goes, this is a rather average stout.

12oz Bottle from CJ's Potsdam NY for 2$
Appearance - Dark black/brown colour with an average size fizzy light brown coloured head. It's hard to make out the level of carbonation and there is some good lacing. The head lasted for around 4 minutes.
Smell - Malts, chocolate, grains
Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts and a hint of chocolate/coffee. There is also some grainy notes and a bit of a burnt/smokey flavour. It finishes with a lingering burnt aftertaste.
Overall - A nice appearance but the taste is just a little too unbalanced for me. It starts out smooth but ends with a sharp bitter flavour. Still a good beer but not as good as I was expecting.

Appearance - Color is a dark chocolate brown that has a slight red halo when held up to the light. After sitting for about 5 minutes, the carbonation has subsided, carbonation seems very mild. Head grew to about an inch and lasted about 2 minutes before dissipating into a bubbly lace. Beer is opaque, looks dark and delicious.
Smell - I smell dark roasty sweetness that reminds me of coffee. Smells a bit smokey and a bit chocolately upon second sniff.
Taste - First sip is surprising. I expect a kick but it is milky and smooth. I do not taste coffee but there are hints of dark unsweetened cocoa and something like licorice. After a few minutes, I can taste a coffee-like flavor much akin to Italian or French Roast. For a stout, I feel that this brew matches up to its reputation. This IS the iconic stout for a reason.
Mouthfeel - The feel is heavy and it coats the back of my tongue. It is smooth and carbonated. First few sips are more fizzy but after 5 minutes or so, the carbonation levels have decreased leaving a dark elixir.
Overall - My impression of this beer is positive. The dryness of "Extra Stout" is pleasant. I am now enjoying my second glass with some dark chocolate wafer cookies. I am finding that this makes a lovely desert beer being as dense as it is and how well it pairs with chocolate or coffee flavored pastries. I am interested in enjoying Guinness with tiramisu. Is this beer for everyone? Definitely not... but if a person can avoid being intimidated by such a heavy beer, they may find they enjoy it more than they thought!

bomber from kroger. Cheap tick.
Looks like Guinness minus the nitro honestly. Kind of dull looking for a stout. Kind of thick head, but it fades leaving honestly a mountain floating like an iceberg in the middle.
Kind of smells like a dry Schwarzbier. Light roast and lager cleanliness.
Honestly, it needs that nitro body. This thing feels thin, overly roasty, and unbalanced. Needs some thick body, but just isnt there. not enough coffee, and nowhere near anything like chocolate. Tastes like a bad light bodied homebrew.

Thirty years must have passed since Guinness Extra Stout passed from the bottle into my mouth. My best recollection was that I hated it. But at the time I was used to Miller High Life, Budweiser, and Strohs. Oh the folly of youth!!
In my mind there is a reason why Guinness Extra Stout is so iconic. It pours a deep ebony with the fringes showing some ruby red. The head is minimal, but what there is, appears a beautiful khaki color. There is some residual lacing, but it is not very pronounced.
It smells of honey, grass, and strangely enough I picked up some notes not dissimilar to soy sauce. Very subtle and understated.
Mouthfeel is robust with exactly the right amount of carbonation.
Taste is complex. Upon first taste, there is a pleasing sweetness which passes seamlessly into a sour taste and finally an assertive dry bitterness on the finish that leaves a coffee aftertaste.
I know Guinness Extra Stout is one of the better known and widely distributed imports, but that doesn't make it bad. In fact it would be in my top 10%. Recommended!!!

Appearance: Opaque black with a thin tan head.
Aroma: Like soy sauce. Definitely a lot of malt presence in this one.
Taste: Burnt malts and soy sauce. I've had this one before and it's always been better than this, maybe the bottle wasn't kept in the right conditions. I wouldn't necessarily call this one bitter but some of the malts lend a coffee-like bitterness on the edges of the palate.
Mouthfeel: Nice and lightly carbonated. Goes down smooth and has average drinkability. Light bodied.
Final Thoughts: Not too impressed with this. Would have loved to try it before InBev took over. I think I'll be sticking with regular Guinness Draught whenever I'm in the mood for an Irish Stout.

Beautiful looking pour out of the bottle and into the glass. A "pillowy" tan-colored head that sticks around a good while. I love the aroma - there's some coffee in there. I really like a stout beer, but I'm not sure I'm a big fan of extra stouts. Overall, it is a good beer and I'm looking forward to trying some of Guinness' other offerings.
