This beer pours very dark - barley wine dark. It pours with a small dark tan head that doesn't hang around for long and the aroma is full of chocolate and coffee - very pleasing. The aroma gave me high hopes, but the flavor did not back it up. The taste is very dry and the chocolate and coffee are not highly detectable and it is almost a little sour. It's not a bad beer, but I can't say that I'll have another one anytime soon.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into an imperial pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a thin dark brown head that fades quickly and leaves a thin on the glass.

S: The aroma contains dark fruit, licorice, coffee, chocolate, roasted malts and a faint touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out a strong dark fruit flavor, then some background flavors of coffee and milk chocolate come in. The malt character is on the thin side for the style. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a little bit of balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and a little smooth but a bit watery, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is sticky.

D: A little tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, decent representation of style, a decent beer overall but there are certainly better alternatives within the style.

(Got a few of these in a couple of trades.) Poured an awesome midnight black with fantastic thick head and great lacing. Very nice thick and deep scent, with sweet malts, roasted grains, and a nice bit of earthy hops in the back. Great flavor, with great roasted grains, a nice hint of coffee and chocolate, and a nice earthy hoppiness at the end to mellow it out. It went down great, with little hint of its higher ABV. Looking forward to having another at Halloween.

Poured from a bomber into a pint glass.

Pours a nearly opaque chocolate brown with a slight reddish glint. There is a dark khaki head of foam that forms--not very much head, but quite creamy.

The smell is of intensely roasted barley malts, cocoa, and coffee notes.

Bittersweet dark chocolate tastes, toasted grains, and bready flavors are among the first things that hit my palate before the bitterness associated with dark roasted malts. This brew is very well balanced between the chocolate/coffee, the sweetness, and the slight hint of alcohol in the flavors. The beer has a texture on the thick side of medium-bodied with a smooth and with a smooth and viscous mouthfeel. Drinkability is good.

WOW! Now this is a great stout! Definitely one of the better stouts I have had in a long time! The beer is BLACK! Deep black, thick, almost chewy thick.. pours like molasses, but all of these adjectives I use lovingly! This beer is smooth and heavy, it definitely has some weight behind it and is definitely a new favorite of mine! The only negative thing I can and will say about this brew is that I should have tried it sooner! If you love stouts like me, do not pass this up! This is top notch stuff!

Really cool head color: it is mocha with a red tinge. The rest is black black even when held up to the light. The smell is slightly alcoholic which makes it a touch sour, but mostly chocolate malts. Definitely not a real smooth and creamy nose. Taste has it's ups and downs. The alcohol is pretty prevalent (however I am notoriously very sensitive to that). I don't get a relate-able flavor from the malts (such as coffee or caramel) because there is this strange sourness from the alc that takes everything over. Still some sweet flavors that hang around to keep things in check. The body could be a touch smoother, too, as it feels slightly too carbonated to me considering the huge malty-sweet-sour characters.

Honestly, I think this is, and many other imperial stouts are, over the top, rejecting flavor in place of abv and "cred." Bring the ABVs down a touch and I bet I would be able to pick out a lot more of the tasty nuances of this brew. But that may just be my anti-high grav self talking.

Pitch black body. Brown head that seems to dissipate somewhat quickly.

Roasted Malts up front and then some hoppiness. Chocalate is dominant, toffee and hazelnut is pretty noticeable. As I give it a swirl I notice little bit of a mustiness. Smells really good, though.

Really nice taste. This tastes like a Oatmeal Stout. Chocalate, toffee, hazelnut and oats. Coffee is there but not overdone like some stouts.

Medium body. Smooth, tiny bit of carbonation. Feels really nice in the mouth.

I could drink another one, if I had a another one. Really tasty, easy to drink and no booze taste.

It pours a very dark brown, for the most part its opaque with some amber tinge to it around the edges. Virtually no head at all, bubbly and quickly dissipating.

There is not much of an aroma coming from this beer, some pretty minor chocolaty undertones and some hints of coffee, but nothing that really catches your attention. It has a very nice subtle chocolaty flavor, not bitter, but not overly sweet. The chocolate and roasty flavors are the most prevalent, pretty much no hops at all. Theres not too much else going on flavor wise and it has a little more carbonation that I prefer in a stout, but its not enough to ruin the smoothness. Overall this is a good beer, nothing exceptional, but definitely a worthy stout.

Got this one in the Secret Halloween '10 BIF. Thanks to Devilsaint78 for this one.

A-Pours a very dark brown, some hints of ruby at the bottom of the glass. Foamy mocha head has great retention but no real lacing.

S-Lots and lots of chocolate. Yummy. A bit of roast underneath.

T-Very, very nice. Right on for the style. Mild sweetness with a lot of nice prominent roasty bitterness. A lactic note in the finish with some sweet creaminess finishes this one off nicely.

M-Medium bodied, creamy, with some nice richness.

D-Yes, please. Not familiar with the beer or brewery before I got this but I would seek it out again. A very good export stout.

A: Pitch black, four fingers of mocha hued head. Great cascade action. Solid retention. Thick lace rings.

S: Sweet milk chocolate, roast malt, coffee with cream, hint of campfire. Great nose.

T: Milk chocolate, roasted malt, bitter hop bite, light smokiness

M: Smooth low carbonated medium body.

D: Very nice beer. Easy drinker for sure. I would pick this up again if given the chance.

22 oz bottle split and poured into a Sierra Nevada imperial pint. 7.5% ABV, no date.

A - Pours rich and thick with a completely death-black color and minimal cascading before the dark tan head settles at three fingers. Moderate to low retention with moderately thick lacing.

S - A hint of lactose sweetness hides behind the scythe that is bittersweet chocolate, cocoa, and heavily roasted malts. A touch of vanilla and molasses with a little bit of oak. A great nose to open this beer with!

T - Rich roasted malts dominate the palate with some roasted coffee and a chunky chocolate bit. A touch of hops appears on the finish only top assist in bitterness. A great stout taste though.

M - Rich and full-bodied with a soft, smooth texture and moderately carbonated finish. No alcohol presence but the finish does feature a well-balanced dry bitterness.

D - This one doesn't really need to be split but sharing it with a friend is always nice. And to answer the label's question, "Do you dare?" Yes I do. It's a great stout!

Mortality Stout pours a dark, mahogany brown color. It's almost opaque, but a few burgundy highlights are noted at the edges with backlighting. A light tan head tops it off. It's rather modest and rises to just under a finger in depth. Retention was short and lacing was very light and spotty. For the style...very average.

The nose is a little on the weak side, but is pretty good. It's full of roasted and chocolate malts. There's a bit of charred scent. Roasted coffee is definitely noted, and is rather strong in the mix. I'm a coffee fan, so no foul here. There's a hint of dark fruit. It smells mostly like raisin or plum. Alcohol is held pretty well in check. More strength would be good, but it's far from bad.

The flavor is above average, but isn't great. A bittersweet, dark chocolate flavor is noted initially. It blends well with roasted malts. It does have a charred flavor to it that's not altogether bad. Roasted coffee is very much in the mix. I think it adds nice depth. Dark fruit is noted. It has a bit of a tangy flavor to it. It's not bad, but it's not great either. Alcohol is blended well and goes mostly unnoticed. It finishes with a roasty, tangy taste.

Mortality Stout has a medium body. Carbonation is active but doesn't interfere with the feel. It's alright, but it needs more body. As it is, it's not very smooth. Not bad though. Drinkability is rather average. The flavor's alright, but isn't great by any stretch. It goes down relatively easy for a stout. But, I'm not overly enjoying it. A bomber is way more than enough.

This is my first ReaperAle beer. It's alright, but I'm far from blown away. It's above average, but it needs a little more of everything to really stand out. More aromatics, a stronger flavor, and more body. It's not a total disaster and is probably worth a try. Go for the single bomber though.

Semi-viscous as it's poured. Black color with a thick tan head of fluff. No lacing on the glass however.

Rich chocolatey malt that has a slight sour character to it.

Quite chocolatey with toasty malt and a generous portion of smoked malt. The slight sourness is in the taste as well. A little bit of spicy hops. Slightly watered down taste.

Just feels a little too thin and light for the style. Very dry finish.

Drinks well enough and is a pretty good beer for the style.

Poured into a Stone IRS glass.

Jet black, fluffy mocha head, looked a bit more carbonated than most stouts. Looks nice and yummy.

Smells of sweet cream and milk, with bittersweet chocolate and a hint of espresso.

Taste is sweet like hot chocolate then moves to a roasted coffee taste with a tiny bit of bitterness. Tastes like a mix of coffee beans and piny hops. Complex enough, not the best but definitely an above average stout.

It's a little thin for the style, medium bodied at best. A tad too crisp. Doesn't take away too much from the brew as a whole, but would have liked to have seen a bit more depth to the feel.

Overall, this is a more than decent brew, and the first goes down pleasantly, and tasty, but I think 1 is good. I'll probably drink one of these once or twice every month or so.

Poured from a bomber into a Canada pint glass...

A - Pours black with a three finger head. Poured this one kind of agressive on the second pint, and had a half pint full of head. Lol.. Might want to give this one a good easy pour....

S - Never to good picking things out from the pour, but i definitely get a smell of some kind of dark fruit. Can't really pinpoint exactly what it is though...

T - Not to bad. Most up front taste for me is dark chocolate. Tatse a hint of coffee, and maybe raisins. Beer finishes with a burnt taste. Not a big fan of the burnt after taste.

M - Decent body, and carbonation. Definitely medium bodied...

D - Probably won't be one of the beers on my regular rotation, i could see myself buying this if I was out and they had this on tap. Probably won't be buying again in the store though. I tend to perfer more heavy stouts. All in all, i'm gald i tried this one though...

22 oz bomber without a freshness date, but shouldn't be a problem as this one recently arrived in Tx. Fairly cool label with the whole skull and raven thing going on, only slightly over-the-top and garishly goth. Says "Do You Dare?" Why yes...yes I do. Pour is about as nice as it gets. Black color with very little highlighting. Light brown head is creamy, dense and long lasting. Lacing is pretty nice too.

Nose is a bit on the fruity side for an export stout...strawberries, plums and blackberries. Powdered baking cocoa with a little bit of sweetness and some yeasty dough round out the aroma here. Not bad, but not great either.

Taste is pretty thin, even approaching watery with coffee and cola-esque malt flavors leading the way. Some slight astringency, and the ABV is not very well disguised. Light fruits like some cantaloupe and strawberries are in there and is not very tasty in this style of stout. An acrid bitterness lingers long on the palate and pretty sure it is not from hops. This beer is not one of the better foreign export stouts I have had. I wont have too much trouble finishing the bomber but this is not one I will be purchasing again.
