A nice little spot that lays just down town and near the river. I went in there on a hot day and had a pils to cool down. For a Saturday I thought it was little empty at first but the garden arond back was full. The service was good and friendly. There was a very beer centric atmosphere. There were a lot of antiques both beer related and regionally orientated. I did not try the food but it looked like typical Frankische fair. It looked and smelled good. My only issue was that the selection was not as good as I thought it would.

Huge tavern, restaurant, and beer garden adjacent to the Würzburger Hofbräu brewery complex.

Big variety of beers from the brewery, including various lagers, wheat beers, and a couple of oddities such as bock beer. Good sized menu with big dinners as well as interesting bar snacks and plates such as sausages and pretzels. Dinners include Franconian specialties, salads, and regular German fare like boiled beef. We had great pork hocks with crispy skin, bread dumplings, fried potatoes, and cabbage salad, plus head cheese (described as "jellied pork cubes"), tomatoes, and pickles.

The vast beer garden is shaded by a grove of horse chestnut trees. Inside, a wall of windows looks over the garden. Bars, breweriana, old beer kettles, hop vines overhead. For an early evening Sunday, the clientele was mostly oldsters and middle agers. An ideal place to sample a bunch of local beers and eat well.
