Reviewed on 6/19/2010. On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear golden yellow with a white head. Aroma of a little citrus, but mostly caramel malt. Flavor of plain caramel, sweet malt. Not hoppy at all, just a watery palate with sweet malt and sweet fruits. Meh, not impressed with this one.

Unidentifiable as an American-style IPA. That's my big complaint. The beer was clear yellow gold. The aroma was of butter-scotch. I expected way more noticeable hop aroma. The beer was sticky, perhaps lower ABV than I wanted? No hop flavors could I detect. It could be appreciated more I think with less butterscotch. I might have accessed a not as good batch.

Reviewed 10/26/2007 (Sampler @ Dragonmead Brewery, Warren, MI):
Pours a brown, darker colored body, with a small white head. Has a somewhat hoppy aroma, but more sweet than bitter, weakish. Has a bitter dry almost acidic nutty taste. Bitter and unbalanced.

I sampled this at the Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Fest.
A: Copper, off-white head, not much retention, some lace.
S: Grapefruit citrus, bread, caramel, and an unfortunate hint of band-aids.
T: Toffee, grapefruit, bread, pine, cotton-candy, caramel. Too sweet, not enough bitterness.
M: Greater than moderate body, somewhat creamy, with an acidic finish. Carbonation is lower than moderate.
D: It'd be more sessionable with some more bitterness.

Clear amber color with a firm off white head. Grapefruit and floral hop aroma and some malts to balance it out. Somewhat bitter hops but they were weaker than I would have expected for the style. Also had some malts to balance out the finish. A solid beer.

Clear golden amber colour topped by a thin white head. Floral/earthy hop aroma with some grainy malt, but little depth. More floral hops in the flavour, with some spiciness and citrus notes. Moderate maltiness and bitterness with some orange fruitiness. Medium carbonation and body. This is a fairly well-balanced beer, but not what I think of as an IPA, more of and APA.

Very clear copper color. A very poofy head with sheets of foam left on the glass.
Spicy hop nose with a biscuity aroma.
Quite sweet. Muted but complex hop character.
Feels foamy and light to medium body.
If it's called an IPA it just needs to be hoppier. The malty and sweet backing is there. This just plain needs more hops.

Brewed with pale, munich, and caramunich malts...Cascade, Chinook, and Willamette hops. This beer evidently used to be dry-hopped with Centennial. Confirming my suspicions that this batch wasn't, the barkeep said, after asking the brewer who was on that day, that they discontinued the practice after realizing "it didn't make much of a difference". OG=1.060. Clear, light caramel in color with a thin light beige to white head atop small bubbles with just OK retention and poor lacing. Carbonation is mild. Mouthfeel is smooth and wet with a dry finish and medium body. Aroma is lightly fruity and weak, certainly not very hoppy compared to other great beers in this style. Taste begins with floral, slightly harsh (green) flavor hops, followed by sweet, toasty, yet still harsh pale and caramunich malts. The bittering hops are rough, overdone, and not at all balanced. The finish is crisp, dry, and earthy. Not a very good example of an IPA...a let-down from an otherwise good brewpub.
