I was up in Medford, MA staying with a friend prior to the Saturday NERAX session when he suggested we drive over to Winchester W&S to catch their Friday night beer tasting. Well, we were too late for the tasting but it was certainly worth the trip. Although their import section wasn't as extensive as other places, I did purchase two bottles of Hanssen's "Mead the Gueuze," that I had not seen elsewhere.
Their American craft brew section was more extensive, and I wound up with a couple of corked bottles of Port Brewing's Serpent Stout and a few Sam Adam's Tripple Bock. Yeah, that's right, they had a case of the 97 tripple bock just sitting there on the shelf. They weren't sure how it had been stored over the last 11 years, and offered no guarentees, but at $5.50 a bottle, I figured I'd give it a try. Later that evening we cracked one open and it was amazing. The next day I went back and picked up a six pack.
The folks at Winchester W&S were very friendly, readily offered assistance, and seemed genuinely enthusiastic about engaging the customers in beer talk. I plan to make this a regular stop when up in the area.

I must say that this is the best store that I have been to so far. I was very impressed by the beer selection that I found here. A wide selection from imports to great craft beers. A wide selection from the best Belgian beers from the Trappist breweries to craft brewers like Alesmith, Lost Abby, Troegs, and many others. The service was very helpful, many times I was asked if I needed help. The prices were pretty good and the mix a six section was a pretty cool surprise. I managed to pick a complete six pack of beers that I had yet to try. A really great experince.

Was in Winchester for the Easter weekend visiting my wife's family and was need of a place to score some good beer. BA directed me to Winchester Wine and Spirits.
Located on Main Street in Winchester Center, WWS has a great selection of local and national craft beers with dynamite service. I walked in seeing your standard collection of liquor and wine. The beer was around the corner from the cashier.
Selection and quality was great. Lots of local breweries with big national craft brewers included (Dogfish Head, etc.) I was looking for Boston and New England beers I could not get in Philadelphia. I spoke to the young guy working the beer section and he could have not have been more helpful. He pointed me in the direction of local breweries he liked and was honest and told me about ones he didn't like. He was knowledgable and at no time did I feel like he was trying to sell me up. Much like myself, he just enjoyed discussing craft beer.
I ended up getting beer from Blue Hills, Haverhill, Clown Shoes, Pretty Things, Cody's Brewery and a few other breweries. There was a 5% discount for buying 6 bombers which was great. I walked out with two six packs and six bombers for $60 which I thought was a good deal.
WWS was a pleasant surprise. Great selection, wonderful service. I'll be making a stop every time I find myself in Winchester.

I have to go to the Woburn area overnight for business every couple of months, and by the time I get there I usually don't have the time to (or feel like) going too far.
This place is about 10 minutes away from where I usually stay. Been there maybe 4 or 5 times. I have got Brute, Hop Rod Rye, Port, etc.
They have a pretty extensive selection while not as great as maybe a place like Julios, they have so much more than I can ever find from store in Maine where I live. Staff is really friendly, they also offer a discount for mixed 6 packs and 12 packs.
The last time I was there inquired about the new Sam Adams Barrel aged series. They said they just got them in but they unpacked them got them out for me to purchase.
My only pet peave was that some bottles were a bit dusty. That being said, with the overall great service (which I have had each time I have been there) and the selection for that area of Mass. I find this to be a great establishment.

Overall a good place, they had alot to choose from, the guy who worked there knew alot about beer and went off on IPAs and Belgian beers, and gave me some good ideas I had not tried. Needless to say I left with them, which is more than I planned on spending, but the guy did his job, he knew alot. Overall selection, maybe they had one or 2 things I'd never seen before, and they had a large volume of beers warm and cold. Location it was a bit tough for me to find but once I found it I was happy. A good place, if I am ever in the area again I'll swing by. Gets my stamp of approval as if that means anything
I think he said friday around 5 or 6 are tastings....sounded pretty good to me. Not sure if I can make it due to the lacation though.
Make your own 6 pack, I didn't really check it out, but I think it was $12.
The Belgian selection really stuck out as being better than other places I have been. If that is what you like.

Two words, PASSION and KNOWLEDGE.
While they have a great selection of everything and it is well laid out by state and or country and they have a generous make your own six pack program, what's great about this place is the knowledge of their beer guy. I assume there are more than one, but the couple of times I've been here I've spoken with the same guy, keep forgetting to ask his name. None the less, his knowledge is broad and unpretentious and he clearly loves helping people with their beer journey. A bit pricey, but that's Winchester for you. If anything, go to this place to day dream.

This is probably my favorite store. Quality and service is outstanding. If you ever need something, talk to the staff, and they will order it and put it aside for you. Selection is very good. From time to time they have things that other stores don't. Their Friday evening beer tastings are also not to be missed. There is usually always four or five excellent selections, all differing in style. A few weeks back they were pouring Hop15, Espresso Yeti, and a bunch of other great stuff. Prices are pretty good, and everything is fresh. Their grand beer tasting is coming up, which from what I hear is going to be bonkers. Cheers
What can I say about this place? It has been my home away from home for the last couple years. Friendly staff, great selection, and kick ass fests...what isn't there to like?

This store is obviously making the shift from wine centered to added more beer. The beer section is oddly shaped and spread out, but the selection is huge. The service staff is very helpful and come around and offer assistance. If they do not have something they will make the effort to get it for you. Prices are average.
The only issue with this place is the location. It is kind of out of the way unless you live in Winchester and there is very little parking. I love everything about this place, so if you live nearby this could be your regular craft beer store.

First off, let me just state that I drove 45 minutes to go to this place because I heard of the incredible service, the weekly beer and wine tastings, and of course the large craft brewery selection. When my friends and I finally arrived at Winchester, our expectations were instantly met. Not only were we greeted by the staff but also blown away by the exceptional arrangement of the store.
Now I should note that the overall selection of this store (in terms of beer at least, I know nothing about wine) is not the largest that I have seen. I have been to a few stores, specifically Luke's Liquors in Carver, Ma, that have a vastly larger brewery selection, seemingly having a brewery from each state. You'll of course find your mainstays of any liquor store here like Bud, Coors, etc. However, Winchester has a great many brews that you wont be able to find elsewhere. Their craft brew selection is plentiful as they have an excellent selection of breweries from the Northeast, especially the smaller, lesser known, as well as a good many brews from elsewhere in the United States. They also have a great Belgian, German, and English selection as well. Coming from someone who has tried a solid selection of German and English beer and who trolls Beer Advocate for the finest selections from those respective countries, I was surprised to find some great beer that I had never even heard of. Winchester seems to really want to introduce their consumers to great beers that don't get a lot of attention elsewhere.
Winchester's great craft selection is only matched by its customer service, which I have to say, was easily the best I have ever encountered in a liquor store. The employee who was there could not only tell me everything about the beer I was interested in but also everything about the brewery, the brewer, etc. I found myself asking him at least eight or nine times about his thoughts in regard to a specific beer (and I consider myself to be a pretty knowledgeable connoisseur!) At one point in time, my friend asked him to suggest his favorite IPA and he was able to select five beers and then tell my friend what he liked about them. He seemed to have a extensive understanding and analysis of each beer in the store which greatly assisted someone who likes to enjoy the complexities of beers like me. To further comment on the customer service, (and I hope this doesn't get him in hot water), but he wasn't swayed to direct me towards a beer based on price, as he recommended at times a preferred beer that was lower in price than those more expensive in the same category.
Lastly, I can't comment a whole lot on their beer tastings because I was there on a Saturday, which is when their wine tastings take place. But if it counts for anything, their wine tasting, as well as their tasting room, was very impressive and I was given a thorough analysis of the wine which enhanced my experience.
In comparison to other larger liquor stores in the Boston area, you may not necessarily find a beer from some far away place that you may be looking for, but you will certainly find something incredible that you may or may not have heard of and learn a great deal about it in the process.

I must say I was pretty excited to check this place out. The whole make your own six pack is a concept I have been a fan of since I went to Julio's liquors. First, let me start off by saying that this was definitely a good place to go and grab some beer if you are in the area. However, I have to say that I didn't think it was worth the 20 minute drive from Watertown.
The staff lived up to the hype. They were extremely helpful and friendly on the rainy afternoon I went. And the beer selection was quite good. BUT the make your own six pack was definitely an epic fail. For the price (which I can't remember off the top of my head) I thought the selection was pretty lacking. They had some randoms (mostly local) such as Wachusett and Haverill along with Dogfish and a few noteworthy brews. But the bulk of it was various Sam Adams and Harpoon styles. I just don't do Landshark. That's where my heart sank a little. I believe that this is a work in progress and hope that it continues to grow in terms of choice and value.
Again, the store itself is quite good and their selection is pretty varied. Next time I will pay the little bit extra at Marty's and save on the gas.
