I hope you know someone who has been here before, or you're fucked!! It's not like there is a sign that says "Sergios"!, but once inside the atmosphere is messy with a lot of bottles on the bar with coolers full of great beer and a shitload of taps that are not the norm.
The bartender is full of knowledge that will lead you in the right direction. They have like 40 taps of unreal craft beer that no matter your style, they have something for you.
Prices are reasonable considering what they have. The bottle selection is f'n unreal if you can find what you want-you may need to look hard to find a gem-but don't worry, it's probably there.
The best place to drink in Louisville, and maybe the Mid-West! I hear Sergio is there a lot and will converse with you about beer until you go home.

What can I say about Sergio's? It's a hidden gem accessible to those who really want good beer. The restaurant is simple, unassuming, and massively dominated by refrigerators of great beer. Regularly, beers unavailable anywhere else are imported into Kentucky of all places to be sold at Sergio's. Many beers of which only a few cases even come to the US are available to the every day consumer who stumbles in and out of Sergio's.
As far as a menu goes, the Hispanic focused cuisine vies for the best in its category in town. Some of the other menu items are half-hearted, but I give the restaurant a 4 for its focus on great Hispanic food.
Sergio himself is a world traveler who goes to the source to find the beers he wants to sell. He travels with some of the best names in the beer industry and regularly leads trips to Belgium, exposing disciples to the behind-the-scenes goings on at the heart of great beer. The man knows exactly what is in stock and can readily direct visitors to the beers which they will love.
The bar tenders are all trusted sources and know their beer. They care about beer and want to expose visitors to the best beers available.
Come with lots of cash, you won't regret it.

Sergio's is a really modest, super casual, down to earth establishment. When I stopped in, a couple of employees who were off that day were hanging out drinking. When employees spend their days off at work, you know that's a good sign. They love talking beer and even shared some of their own with me, pretty cool. Sergio himself is a pretty low key guy who likes talking beer as well.
The selection is huge and really sprawled out, arranged by region. The American beer takes up two or three window coolers up front where the bar is. Walking towards the back you'll find the dining area and a small walk-in cooler for Belgians. More window coolers towards the back house many of the other regional beers and there are a couple of refrigerators with more beer. Like, actual refrigerators, the kind in your kitchen, pretty random. Sergio is a glass collector and he has some really nice pieces up at the bar. Some are for sale, some are not, you just kind of have to ask. Like I said, super casual.
They had around 20 or 30 taps and the draft selection was incredible, lots of sours. I was able to get Cuvee Freddy aged in Belgian Owl Whisky barrels, and also a BFM 2012 Saint Bon-Chien. They had more modest offerings, too, like Kilkenny nitro ale and Pumking.
I didn't get to try any of the food, the staff raved about it, though.
I love the vibe here, you could spend all day trying new stuff and just chatting about beer. The emphasis on sours and other international beers should be noted; it is called Sergio's "World Beers" after all. With craft taking off in the US, I would have liked to see a stronger American contingent, but regardless, they have something for everyone. My only real gripe is the pricing. They are understandably higher than most places you'll go to, but considering the amount of inventory they have, you can see why. If they competed in price while having that amount of stock, they'd go under. If you've never been, this is a must visit for any beer geek, at least just so you can say you've been to Sergio's.

Went with a group to see a Drive-By Truckers show at Headliners Music Hall. We made sure to arrive into Louisville several hours early to make a stop at Sergio's World Beers. The acclaim was impossible to ignore and I was curious to see how the place stacked up against other craft bars I love.
When it comes to quality and selection, this place remains one of the absolute best I've ever been to. We visited on a cold afternoon in February 2012, and were lucky enough to get 6 oz. pours of BrewDog's Tokyo. This was before any of us had ever heard of this amazing stout. We were fortunate enough to have a friendly and knowledgeable bartender that was more than happy to give us a crash-course on some of the offerings they currently had on tap. He highly recommended Tokyo, which we all had and loved. It's been one of our favorites ever since. I will always associate Sergio's with BrewDog Tokyo for that reason.
The only negative mark I can give Sergio's is the atmosphere. For the time of year we went it was uncomfortably cold inside. The temperature outside was almost exactly as it was inside, which was around 35 degrees. We never took our coats off and were shivering almost the entire time. It was a bit odd to not have heat for your customers, but the high ABV of the beers we were consuming did a sufficient job warming us up a bit.

I located this place thanks to beer advocate and wanted to add my two cents. Iv never seen a selection this vast and Corey was a great bartender. Sergio helped me pick out one of my beers, although truth be told I appreciated Corey's advice more. If you're withibg twenty miles you have little to no excuse for missing this place.
And the food is fine. Not great, but who goes to Hooters for the wings. Also, the patrons here love talking beer.

Okay. This place has me in a love/hate situation. I LOVE the fact that they have so many beers to choose from. I LOVE the beer signs, tap handles and other beer "eye candy" that is EVERYWHERE. (think back to your teenage years and how your bedroom looked).
Now, the food sucks. Honestly. Its horrible, so eat somewhere else and then come here. Or drink here and order the food to sober up. The only good thing is the pretzel. Then we have the actual prices on the beer. The tap prices are fair, but the bottles are STUPID! Why would I pay $20 for a bottle that I can get for $7.99 at any other liquor store in Louisville? (Read Hoptimus by NABC). Oh and lets not forget that this place is cash only. Really? For what reason?

Sergio's is a unique Louisville pub that reminds me of a dive bar serving excellent beer. But it seems to me that the place needs someone to help keep it cleaner. There are many different glasses displayed high above the bar that are hazy with dust and grime. However, the list of beers offered is indeed amazing, there must be 30 plus taps including many Belgians and other quality beers plus hundreds of bottles from all over the world. He does have some descriptions of the beers on his list, but there are many others not listed. He has probably 6 or more coolers that are full of exotic beers which you can open and help yourself. I don't know how he prices those beers; I suggest you ask before opening the bottle. I visit Sergio's about 3 or more times a year and it is both great and disappointing. This last time it was a bust. Sergio wasn't there and his minion behind the bar was very unwelcoming. This is a serious beer bar with little extraneous talk with the bartender other than about beer and this guy didn’t want to talk. The beers that we had were priced between $7.50-$9.00 for a small pour of I guess about 8 oz in a small tulip glass, and the bartender went to great effort to keep the beer level in the glass to more than an inch below the rim while trying to get a nice head which either didn’t work or didn’t last long. And the beers weren't even served in appropriate glassware, which was surprising as I saw so many different glasses all over the place. I was tempted to request another round but with these pricy beers that are cash only (there is an ATM inside, but no checks or credit cards), I had to pass. Regrettably, the beer I came for, Klokke Roeland, tasted off to me and I mentioned this to the bartender who ignored my critique. I don’t believe samples are offered and once the beer is poured, it’s yours. I have enjoyed Klokke on two separate occasions while in San Francisco at La Trappe, (a wonderful Belgian pub), and was very impressed with this beer, not so at Sergio’s. Perhaps the line wasn’t cleaned well from the last keg or two. I will be back but my taste for the place has been soured
