From 08/30/12. Had this on tap at Standings in NYC, served in a pint glass.
a - Pours a brown, almost black color, with one inch of medium tan head and low carbonation evident.
s - Smells of pine hops, roasted malts, chocolate, and some toasted malts. Nice mix of roasted malts and pine.
t - Tastes of pine hops, roasted malts, smoke, chocolate, toasted malts, earthy notes. Smoke is light, follows the nose pretty closely.
m - Medium body and low carbonation, body is pretty smooth and creamy.
o - Overall I liked this one quite a bit. Reminded me of a black IPA and while not overly complex, the pine hops and roasted malts worked very nicely together. Would certainly order it again.

On draft at Blind Tiger, NYC.
Poured a deep black hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.
The smell featured light roasted malts and a moderate herbal hop.
The taste was predominately in line with classic stout flavors. Perhaps there was a touch more hop presence than most examples, but nothing that I would classify as "hoppy."
The mouthfeel was clean with a dry finish.
Overall a tasty stout. Quaffable.

after this being the clear highlight from my trip to the Greenport Harbor Brewery a few days ago, i jumped at the opportunity to get a 32oz counter pressured fill growler from ronkonkoma beverage when i saw it was available. growler picked up earlier today enjoyed out of a blue point (keeping it local baby) belgian globe glass.
a - brew poured a deep brown, but settled in the glass as black. there was a nice finger of greyish mocha colored head...looks just as good as i remembered it. awesome lacing coats the glass showing rings of every sip i took (reminds me of a guinness in that way)
s - YUM. nice roasted chocolate notes with a well balanced hopping. REALLY nice. not as hoppy as something like a darkness, but also keeps true to a stout while teasing a black ipa. the roast and chocolate dominate the odor and the hops add a really nice compliment.
t - in the flavor the hops jump out and this beer does resemble a black ipa at first, more than a stout. as my palette adjusts to the hops, the stout roastiness and chocolate flavoring really comes out. this is definitely a great beer. well done on the locals. great char, wonderful freshness. the hops are a nice compliment and don't steal the show.
m - nice roast character, bready and cooling. some char. great carbonation a bit fizzy while still having an overall creamy feel.
o - overall, it is really good, but perhaps the other day i was bit overzealous on my grading (albeit after a day sipping some wine in the vineyards and this was the final brew in an 8 beer flight at the brewery), but perhaps not...probably the best local stout (and i'm a big fan of Spider Bite's BORIS and Long Ireland's Breakfast stout)...very reminiscent of 5 years later.

This is the first stout brewed by Greenport Harbor and it's a good one. The pour is black with a small tan head that settles slowly and some patchy lacing. Aroma is very much chocolate forward, and while there are some faint floral hop notes detected, they aren't particularly aggressive. Smells malty, chocolatey, somewhat sweet and milky.
For me the taste followed the nose and I didn't find it too be all that hoppy despite the name. Which was nice for me, because I don't particularly enjoy aggressively hopped stouts. Instead I got a smooth, chocolatey stout with restrained bitterness and roast, some creaminess, and light coffee and caramel flavors. Almost felt like an oatmeal or milk stout. Very tasty.
The body was medium, with moderate carbonation, and a dry finish. Quite good, my favorite beer by this brewery so far.
