happy hour at 38 degrees is a steal for all these great beers on tap! pints of good beer for 4 dollars!
selection of beers on tap is rotated, right now it seems that pale ales and winter beers are being featured.
looking forward to life and limb and duvel draft on tap today while watching ucla vs. usc
food at 38 degrees is a major plus. Onion rings look like donuts, so be careful.
Good selection of bottled beer that I would drink if I were a rich man.
Tap beers are best value. Flights of featured beer are a good deal as well.
Bartender who I have seen twice is knowledgable and has good taste. Don't remember his name though!

My wife and I love this place. We've been coming here since they opened. The management and wait staff have always been great. They share our love of quality hearty beer and food.
There are places with a greater number of taps but Clay and James do a great job of keeping their beer list populated with excellent choices covering the range of styles and breweries. I often wonder if a place with too many taps has trouble with lesser ordered beers going stale. No worries here. The taps are always fresh and tasty.

I visited this place and you can still smell the 'newness' of the place. Great atmosphere, there was a Dodger game on some of the I believe around 5 flat screens around the bar. The menu had a good selection of items to choose from and I had a delicious 3 Chile Burger which didn't disappoint on the spicy scale. The server, Schuyler, was friendly and attentive. I had the Hop-15, Double Jack, and Green Flash IPA. I also remember a good selection of Belgians on tap as well as DFH 90. There are 38 taps in the house, and they have a nice bottle selection including bombers of Old Viscocity and Stone RIS, from what I remember.
One thing I liked about the bar was the 4.5 oz. tasters which you can have of any brew. They range from $2-$3 depending, very reasonable.
Overall, there aren't too many places like this around, so I'll definitely be making a return trip soon.

It took almost 9 months since I was introduced to Clay (the owner) to get my butt to 38 Degrees, but you know, traffic on I-5 stinks. There, that's my excuse. I finally made the trip earlier this afternoon to Alhambra for food, beer, and hopefully some hospitality.
The interior is a little abstract with several TV's at the bar, a half-dozen "Hello, how are you?" taps displayed at the entrance, and wooden seating all around. Almost gastropub ambience, but with TV's. The bar is easy to get to from the enterance, which is in an "L" shape. There's also a seperate dining area away from the bar.
I reacquainted with Clay shorly after I sat at the bar. We talked for quite a bit thorughout, he recommeneded some beers he had, and he even gave me a tour of the cold box which stores his kegs and bottles. Oh, and the bartender was really cool as well, and nothing ever took too long to get.
Close to 40 beers on-tap, and an additional 100 bottles to choose from. A small selection are common and have mass appeal, but most cater to the beer geek. Beers on-tap included Ballast Point, Tokyo*, Urthel, DogFish Head, Tripel Karmeliet, Pliny the Elder, AleSmith, Lagunitas, Victory, Craftsman. The bottle lists includes other goodies as well, with a list that includes Supplication, Aventinus, The Bruery, Victory at Sea, Moylan's, and Sculpin. There are a number of different pieces of glassware used for the beers, pours were fresh and lovely, nothing served really cold (expect for draught Bud Light, according to Clay), but the way Clay explained and showed me how he handles his kegs convinced me that he really cares about the condition of the beer he serves. (7/14/11: And many future visits later, I concur).
I started things off with a pint of Black Marline with cocoa nibs. Yum. Round two was a Urthel Saissonière (poured in an Urthel glass) which Clay recommended. Then my chicken mac n' cheese came out...good stuff. And for dessert, a 4½ ounce pour of BrewDog Tokyo*.
38 Degrees is close to what I expected; a great spot for drinking craft beer, eating great food, and a very likeable owner. I may live almost an hour away, but I'll be back for sure.

What a place! I live far away outwork around the corner and this place is a great place to wait for traffic to die down, watch a game, hang with friends, take a meeting or even take the lady.
No, I don't work for them but I am a huge supporter of Clay and his business.
The tap list boasts some standards and some super rare stuff and he's always got something for everyone.
The food is amazing and the crowd is predictably solid. I never have trouble finding a seat but I've never seen it less than half full. It's really a remarkable place and I recommend it to anyone.

First time visited this place a couple of days after they opened. This used to be the California Brewing Company which wasn't that good. I walked in,sat down and noticed 38 beers on tap! Good beers! In Alhambra, of all places! Scanned the beer selection and saw Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA. Ok, if a bar has just opened and they have Dogfish on tap, especially 90 Min., they got me hooked. They also have Saimese Twin Ale from Uncommon Brewers here on tap. As far as I know, I only seen this on tap here. An interesting but good beer you need to try at least once. Clay was a gracious host as are their bartenders. Keep it up and you will have returning customers definitely. Haven't tried the food yet, so I can't review on it. Nice big place with cool music playing. If you been to bars with a good selection of beers, you seen these on tap before, but this being Alhambra, this is the only place with such a selection here. Finally a place I don't have to take a freeway to visit.
THE best bar in Alhambra!

Went here for the Dogfish Head 120 Minute Tasting Event. Absolutely epic beer menu with so many choices. They had so many beers that I haven't been able to find in my local stores. The staff was really friendly and helpful when making a decision on the different beers and styles to choose from. Food was good, typical pub grub. Loved the atmosphere, lots of savvy beer drinkers in the crowd. Its a bit of a drive for me, but I would definitely return just for their selection of brews. Loved this place!

I happened to be in Alhambra which is rare for me so I decided to stop in. Wasnt in the mood for beer at the time, but what the hell, I'm here!
Very cool joint in the heart of older Alhambra which is a very nice spot. The place is decorated nicely, trendy with class. Well situated bar and seating area.
A very healthy amount of beers on tap and not just any beers. Very current sought after beers that make you do a double take. And the bottle list amazing as well.
I couldnt decide on a beer so I did a taster flight with 4 amazing picks. Rapped with the bartender for a few minutes about beer, he was very accomodating. The only thing I didnt care for was the pricing on the flight. It was billed out as individual glasses based on what beer it was and some were quite a bit more expensive than others.
Wasnt that hungry, so I ordered a salad from a very intriguing menu filled with great choices. Very well made salad with huge taste. I want to go back and order some of the other things I spied on the menu. You can tell they have a chef on staff, not just some cook hired from Craigslist.
Overall great experience. Great brews and very satisfying food. If you're in the area, stop by. You wont be disappointed!

Took me a while to get out to 38, but it was well worth the effort to travel to the not so distant far off land of Alhambra. Located in the heart of downtown Alhambra (or at least I am assuming it is the heart as indicated by the number of chain restaurants versus the lack of street parking) 38 Degrees sets it self apart by offering a more than solid craft beer list, great food, good service and a pleasant atmosphere.
I had a tasty pork cutlet smothered in bacon gravy sitting on a mountain of mashed potatoes that I paired with a Hop Wallop and a High Tide. I followed that up with a Santa's Little Helper and a brioche bread pudding coved in caramel sauce and vanilla bean ice cream. Seriously good! All of it! I knew that the beer would be good, but I was pleasantly surprised that the food was excellent as well.
With the new wave of burger bar/beer joints springing up all over town it is nice to find one where all the elements actually work. The beer selection is geek level, the food is top notch, the service is friendly and the space is comfortable. Very impressed!

Went for the first time for BA week with a buddy. The first day of BA week, started @ 4pm. We got there at about 4:30 and the place was almost full. By 5pm it was packed.
We sat at a bar table then moved to a dinner table when we had a couple people meet us. The service was good, not excellent. I wouldn't say the servers were intensely educated on the beers and a little annoying/rushing at times.
The menu for the BA week event was pretty impressive along with their solid rotating tap list. The bottle list was pretty exceptional but very pricey. At least 2.5x retail.
Overall this place has a great vibe, selection and service. But its in horrible part of town IMO. It's in an area I've never been to and dint really ever plan on going back to unless they have some amazing event there. Aside from the nice actual Main St. its pretty much a shithole part of town.
