look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3 | overall: 3.5
330 to tulip, cool. No idea how old.
A - 3.5 - Medium translucent cloudy brown, or as someone below aptly put it, mahogany. Fizzy off-white head that dissipates to a thin broken cap quickly.
S - 3.5 - Somewhat faint, malty, light fruity candi
T - 3.75 - Malty, caramel, dark fruits, a little spice. I get something like apple cider.
M - 3.0 - Medium bodied but really carbonated, so seems lighter. Finishes slightly dry.
O - 3.5 - After Westmalle, this is the second of the big name Belgian dubbels to disappoint. I loved Rochefort 6 and am looking forward to Rochefort 10 so I was hoping for a clean sweep, but it was not to be. Like Westmalle, it's got some good flavors, but also like Westmalle, it feels like it had its butt removed. There's no substance to anchor it. The flavors fleet along the topside and don't sink in. It's thin and fizzy. The flavors are there but faint. I'd like to boil this down until it was more concentrated and then try it again. It's like a sauce that's too thin. My face is pleasantly warm afterwards, which is nice, but I would not buy this again.

look: 4 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4.5
Glass: Port City Belgian style snifter.
Appearance: Dark ruby-brown in color. A moderate pour produced a finger of bright white head that dissipated relatively quickly. Hazy, with much sediment that eventually settled on the bottom of the glass.
Smell: Bread, caramel, bananas, raisins, spices, and a bit of alcohol.
Taste: Much like the smell, this one tastes super sweet. Caramel is extremely prominent, as is the typical Belgian candi sugar. Dark fruits can be found throughout, with spices playing a side role. The banana which was difficult to find in the smell remains difficult to find in the taste. A strong exhale does produce some tastes of banana, however. Bready aftertaste. Alcohol is well hidden.
Mouthfeel: Medium body with low-medium carbonation. A little sticky, due to the sugars, I suppose.
Overall: A great beer. I enjoy the Belgian candi sugar, but it does come across very sweet. Like a tasty desert, this is one that I will enjoy only from time to time.
