Aromatic hops accompanied by bold flavors of citrus; crisp and refreshing from start to finish. Connecting the Indian River Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian River Inlet provides fishermen and seafarers alike coastal and off-shore adventure. When stormy weather abounds, strong currents and large swells test the skills of local surfers.

Purchased a 6pk while I was vacationing in Milton, DE. Milton is better known as the home of Dogfish Head but the 16 Mile Brewery is less than 10 miles away in Georgetown, DE. Wanted to support some local guys.
Enjoyed and reviewed in a DFH Pint Glass
A - Pours a deep golden cooper color, totally translucent. A foamy one and a half finger head on the initial pour fades to a whiteish skim. Good amount of sticky lacing.
S - A welcoming aroma of pine, citrus and hops with a touch of sweetness.
T - The initial sip greets you with a piney, citrusy taste with a decent touch of bitter hops. The background is made up by sweet, almost toffee-like, malts. A good balance overall. The alcohol does peak through as the beer warms but never overtakes the other flavors.
M - Medium consistency. Medium carbonation. Slightly bitter aftertaste.
O - I've had several of 16 Mile's offerings and by far this is my favorite. A good, well crafted beer that I'd recommend trying if you see it. As a side note, 16 Mile's brews are no longer shipped in the aluminum bottles that was sort of a neat concept. They are now bottled in your standard 12oz bottles with labeling.
Cheers!

First had: on tap at 16 Mile
Clear, darker amber / copper pour with a lasting white ringlet that left a few strands of lacing on the glass. Nice hop profile in the nose, citrus, pine, backed with some toasted grains. A pretty basic IPA, not that that's a bad thing. Taste of citrus/pine/floral hops, crisp but mild, and a solid, grainy, pale malt base. Medium body and easily drinkable.

12 oz bottle was poured into a pint glass.
Appearance: This beer poured a small head that reduced to a thin layer. It is a traditional copper color with great clarity and vision of bubbles coming up through the glass. Some nice lacing on the glass as the beer was drank.
Smell: Slight citrus, bready, and caramel malts
Taste: All of the above with lingering bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Smooth, medium bodied, low to medium carbonation, and a little chewy, and some lingering bitterness.
Overall: The bitterness is what I would expect out of an AIPA. I know the English version is supposed to be overly hopped, but not the lingering somewhat chalky taste in the back of the mouth is too much.

I get some sharp pine smells with mild citrus and caramel malts. The taste is very smooth and malty with caramel and toffee notes and ending with a citric piney finish. The bitterness evolves as the beer gets warmer and the more and more you drink it.
I would say this is definitely one of the better English IPA's I've had since they are mostly subtle in comparison to other IPA's I've had. The malt profile really makes this beer stand out as well as the piney hops giving it that extra kick.
16 mile seems to make some quality beer judging by this beer alone so that should say something about this one.

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass.
A real nice simple copper amber body, quite clear, with some slow rising carbonation. Head has a nice light off white and tan color, swiss cheese like and some good retention. Falls slowly. Looks like a nice amber.
Nose is really off. Mud, bile and vomit slightly, with a good touch of caramel and sweet malts. There's just this obvious hint of a slight off putting really bitter aroma that doesn't scream obvious hop vein. No herbality, tea, not even citrus\. Good sweet malt hiding in the background though.
Taste is rather surprising. I was expecting pain, luckily there is a good thick and solid backbone of malt and sweetness to bring the flavor forward. Unfortunatly the sweetness and hop angle on this is really missing. Sweet brown sugar, a bitter finish, with a real dry hop aroma that has no angle. Just dry and bitter finish, almost cotton mouth feeling.
This is not really getting it done to style for me. It has some good qualities, mostly the mouthfeel, but the palate doesn't deliver and it does not smell very good.

This poured with a half a finger of tan head that lingered for awhile and left a lot of lacing on the pint glass. The body was a clear, dark mahogany color with decent carbonation The nose was a bit of floral hops with a generous amount of malt. It really smelled like an English IPA. The taste was a bit different than the nose. It was a lot of floral and grapefruit notes. At the end of the sip, the malt came through, reminding me that this was an English IPA. The finish was very bitter, even more bitter than I’m used to for the style. The body was medium and a bit stick, coupled with less carbonation than expected. This was really good from an English IPA, but I think I liked it so much because it was so hop forward. I would definitely have this again.
