Balanced layers of flavor. While down in DE, found this one at Big Fish Grill:

Into a pint glass:

A: slightly clear yet golden/amber body yields a one finger foamy white head that quickly recedes, some super light lacing is left, and slow moving carbonation is seen rising

S: caramel, malts, apples, and a super light dose of hops

T: sweet through all previously mentioned flavors, light bittering enters in as it warms, apple aftertaste

M: light, sessionable, carbonation seems right

O: I see this is labeled as an American Blonde, perhaps this might be closer to an ESB, but hey, its not bad even if its no where close to its suggested style

Poured from the bottle, this ale is golden/straw in color with a slight chill haze. The nose on this beer is interesting, with notes of spice, grassiness, honey, apple, and biscuits. There is a decent amount of white- colored foam at first, but it doesn’t last very long and it leaves no lacing.

As for the taste, this golden ale cleanliness and crispness that combines flavors of pale, toasted malt with some herbal character and even a small amount of vegetable coming through, mainly corn. There is some biscuit like flavor as well and the beer finishes with a slightly bitter/herbal sensation that gives way to the sweet taste of pale malt and honey in the aftertaste.

This golden ale isn’t anything amazing, but it is a respectable product for different reasons. Like other 16 Mile beers, it is a very good session beer and a good go- to beer when you want some craft brew but cannot make up your mind or want to select something agreeable to a large number of people. I also like this beer for its usefulness as an introductory beer for craft beer newbies. It has just enough flavor to win over the craft beer convert while still maintaining enough similarities with non- craft beer to offer a bridge from one realm to the next.

This is a good session beer and a good choice for everyday consumption or for drinking with many common foods. It is milder than some may prefer, but it does have some good qualities and it’s a good choice when you want something with a craft beer nature that doesn’t take the flavor and other factors too far.

I am appreciative to JC for sharing this with me, a 12oz brown bottle into a dfh shaped pint.

A brilliant tarnished golden with great clarity and visible carbonation streaming up from the etching on the bottom of the glass to a thick foam of two fingers of snowy white. The retention is good as it laces the glass with a small bead pattern. The smell is okay, more or less what you would expect from a blonde perhaps with slight sweet malt and light corn pop type aromas with practically no hops and light yeast fruitiness. The feel is just ok as it seems to have a slick light diacetyl edge to the mildly dry body with moderate carbonation and mellow sweetness, generally clean, but pretty one dimensional.

The flavor is not bad, there is a light malt flavor up front which is augmented by the corn type adjunct taste which adds to the sweetness and there is a yeast taste which adds a golden apple flavor with mild diacetyl rounding out the smooth creamy flavor in the back end with hardly any hops, but semi dry finishing. Overall a decent beer in general but nothing I would want to have again, since it is just ordinary and pretty average tasting for this style.

Poured from a twelve ounce bottle into a pint glass.

Pours golden clear, some white foam, active bubbles. Light citrus nose. Some beer-y smell. A little bright. Taste is light malt. Mild citrus embedded. Small bitter. Refreshingly good warmer weather beer. Simple but good.

This brew poured with a half a finger of pure white head that dissipated quickly and left no lacing on the glass. The body was a clear straw yellow color with intense, visible carbonation. The nose had some sweet toasted malts and possibly a bit of citrus, if you searched for it. Honestly, it smelled very similar to a macro. The taste started with a bit of toasted malts and some honey to it. There was also a bit of grain to it. The end of the sip had some subtle tartness to it. The body was on the medium side and the carbonation was as intense as it looked. The finish was relatively long with a bit of sweetness. Honestly, this would be a brew that I would hand someone as a substitute for a macro…to switch them over to the dark side. I wasn’t a huge fan of it on its own, but in the context that I just mentioned, it was alright…nothing great. I wouldn’t rush back to have this again.
