500ml bottle, 1/31/13
Hill Farmstead wine glass

A: Murky amber orange like color. Full finger of fluffy off white head. Leaving sticky lacing immediately. Nicely carbonated.

S: Smells nice. Pulling good citrus like hop aromas. Orange marmalade, orange rind, and some pine. Maybe some herbal notes too. Then you also smell those sweet malts in there. It's DIPA on verge of barleywine.

T: Up front in the tongue, you get a tickle of hop bitterness. The flavors are of that juicy orange rind and other citrus juice. Again, some of that old hoppy herbal tea character. Then the malt bill gets you. Sweet and ample. Some earthy notes are there with those malts. On the finish, it's fairly dry. You get some booze warmth on the back end but no notes of it while drinking. Lingering hop bitterness.

M: it's a big medium actually. Somewhat chewy although it doesn't look that way.

Great creamy hoppy beer. Their signature style turned up a notch. Very lacy. DIPA strength, drunk exactly 90 days after bottling, bottle from Capone's. Big IBU without major palate erasing. Good drinkability. Fuller mouthfeel. CItrus orange aroma and flavour.

A - Pours an amber ruby red color with a solid soapy white head.

S - Resiny and chalky spicy, pine. The nose is very light.

T - Spicy onion, garlic, and vegetable, tea leaf, and a vinous spicy, cotton-like finish, pine needles.

M - Light medium body with a lingering vegetable garlic finish.

O - Unique.

Crystal clear deep amber body, just incredible, topped by four fingers of snow white rocky foam that rose above the glass. Perfect.

Bits of pine, apple, oranges, apricots. Very subdued, requires a deep sniff.

Good malty base, semi-sweet with serious depth. Juicy citrus fruit. Big bitter bite at the swallow. Fruit returns in the afterglow.

Big smooth mouthfeel.

A tasty treat that I will look to revisit next winter.

Packaging: 500ml brown bottle, pry-cap
Glassware: Tulip
Purchased: Received in a trade

A: Amber colored beer that ranges from semi-clear to cloudy. Head is tan and a finger high, with fair retention and attractive lacing.

S: Smells are hoppy and spicy, with additional aromas of bready malts and fruity sweetness.

T: Taste starts with a piney hop bitterness and then reveals some caramel malt notes. Also get alcohol warmth.

M: Carbonation is high, with a chewy body. The finish is hoppy and a bit biting.

O: This is a strong ale -- strong in hop character and alcohol. A good beer that would most likely age well. Tastes very similar to an American version of a barleywine.

Thanks to DrewShal9 for the trade!
