Pours a dark dark brown/black color, starts out with a huge light brown head at least a few fingers deep, fades at a slow rate, for while during the pour it had a bit of a layered effect, leaves a ton of patchy lacing.

Smell has a surprisingly piney hop aroma, soon a large roasted malt and chocolate backbone seizes the nose, a diverse yet balanced aroma.

Taste has a very good balance between the piney hops and the huge roasted malt aroma, chocolate adds a nice character, slight burnt malt bitterness in the aftertaste, smooth mouthfeel with a decent thickness for a Porter, active carbonation, finishes only slightly dry.

So much better than Mean Old Tom, it kind of reminds me of a more thick Zoe. Not a complete branch out from previous beers (since they do hop the heck out of things), it is a very solid beer to their lineup.

Teku glass. Bottled 12/30/12.

A: Pours black--coffee brown around the edges, with a finger and a half of dense and very persistent tan head. The head recedes to a thick and sloppy ring with some streaks and dots of lacing.

S: Medium roast coffee on top of roasted malt, a touch of vanilla and chocolate.

T: Roast is balanced nicely with coffee and a hint of dark chocolate. Finishing dry with a long coffee finish.

M: Slightly grainy. Medium-light body and medium, lively carbonation.

O: A very well crafted porter, hitting a very good balance.
