Notes:
Our take on an American amber ale. Complex malt bill delivers notes of dark raisin, chocolate and biscuit. Copious additions of American hops yield notes of pine and citrus.

500ml bottle (bottled on 1/14/11) poured into a Duvel tulip.

A - Pours an incredibly dark amber color...actually more of a brown color that is a touch on the muddy side in appearance. Three fingers of dark khacki colored foam with amazing density sits atop the beer for a long, long time. An even sheet of lace covors almost 100% of the glass above the liquid level - quite impressive.

S - Wow...hops! Thick aromas of citrus steadily rise from the glass - packed with grapefruit mainly. Some wonderful pine joins the mix. Really great and intense hops. Along with the hops is some earthy and roasty malt character. Very mild but still noticeable boozy alcohol aromas and a dusting of chocolate to round things out.

T - Crisp hoppy bitterness with some roasted malt that gives a bit of a burnt bitterness and blends in with the hops. Sugary and a bit of caramelized sugar sweetness up front. Lots of hops in the middle with loads of grassy and citrus flavors - oranges and white grapefruit and some pineapple too.

M - A touch on the heavier side of medium bodied. Carbonation is full and assertive. Hop bitterness and earthy roasted malt flavors throughout and linger into the aftertaste. Hard to criticize, but perhaps a touch too far on the heavy side for me in this style.

D - This is an excellent beer. I had heard quite a bit about this one and was definitely excited to give it a try. Definitely lived up to the hype and my expectations. Looking forward to having more of these and trying some of the brewery's other offerings in the near future. A bit heavy to be extremely drinkable, especially in warmer weather...full of flavor and really good beer - probably a couple in a session is enough though.

Bottled 04/09/13. Tulip glass.

A: Pours a very deep, almost black amber color, though it manages very good clarity. Three fingers of fine, dense, light sand colored foam which is slow in deflating. Leaves behind generous an intricate lacing.

S: Piney hoppiness, a hint of bready malt and toffee, hint of blackcurrant, and spice. Nice. Fairly muted aroma.

T: Lots of bready, rye-like malt flavor. Tastes like I'm eating multigrain bread. A little spice, not much hops. Finishes with a mild bitterness and grainy flavor, and nearly bone dry.

M: Medium body and medium, sharp carbonation.

O: Meh, it's OK. Not exactly the "hoppy, hoppy amber" it's advertised as. The taste picks up the hop bitterness without the flavor.

Poured from a 16 oz bottle into a tulip. Purchased in Wakefield ri. Bottled 2/26/13.

A - pours a hazy amber-cherry body with a 3 finger thick, dense, khaki colored head that reduces slowly to a mushroom cloud of frothy foam. Exhibits thick lacing. Picture
Perfect.

S- pungent pine, citrus, resin aromas. Very upfront and easy to detect, I can tell
This beer will be hoppy. das dank

T- Big malt character upfront- caramel , toffee, vanilla. Following this comes the hops- pine and huge weed resin notes. Smokey, roasty flavor on the finish. Aftertaste is bitter and borderline astringent. Super flavorful .

M- medium heavy body with medium carbonation. Fairly easy to drink.

What a beautifully crafted beer - you could call this a dipa and no one would question it, but the huge malt character balances out the hops and makes for a delicious red ale. Recommendable.
