Served this 16 oz. can in a Sierra Nevada hops glass. No date. The body was a rich golden with an antique white head. The lace coated the inside of the glass.

The smell was of intense tropical fruit! Pine needles and a bit floral. There was a nice combination of sweet fruits and flowery freshness.

The taste was reflective of the aroma. The big pineapple sweetness was tamed by the astringent (in a good way) lingering bitterness. The 9.5% alcohol was nearly masked by the intense juicy and fruit zest flavors. Finishes long and semi-dry. I would recommend this one to any hop head.

The mouthfeel was slick at first which gave way to the zippy carbonation. Medium to full bodied. This is probably the best Sun King beer I've had (and they are all pretty good).

look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: Pours a clear amber color with a nice head that leaves a fair amount of lacing

Smell: Piney, with a robust caramel base underneath

Taste: The robust caramel flavors assert themselves at first, but by mid-palate, the piney hops take over; caramel flavors linger underneath, through the finish, but this is balanced overall

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: I prefer my DIPAs to be less malty; this is a bit more like an Imperial Amber to my way of thinking; still, pretty good

22 oz can into a pint glass. Just picked up the day before at Sun King.

Appearance: Amber body, good head to start.

Smell: - Citrus, Malts and grapefruit. Hint of alcohol coming thourgh.

Taste: Grapefruit citrus comes through off the bat and then bitterness, hops and a touch of that 9.5% comes to finish in a very nice way.

Overall: I really enjoyed this DIPA. A step up from Osiris, and not quite mellow enough to drink too many of them in one sitting like you can Osiris. But I enjoyed this one and will make sure to get some more next time it's brewed.

16oz can poured into large tulip - thanks to snowrs

Pours a slightly hazed copper color with a large frothy white head resting on top. Retains very nicely, slowly fading into a layer of bubbled film, leaving some spotty lacing littered across the glass.

Hoppy profile riddled with fruit in the nose. Hints of pineapple and tangerine with a few suggestions of lighter citrus. Grainy and bready with some caramel sweetness. Very soft, glowing warmth.

Milder hops creep across the tongue with a citrus base. Pithy peel and pulp with orange and grapefruit. Bitterness increases slowly, followed by some lighter fruit sweetness. Bready in the backbone with some grains and caramel. Finishes with some lingering spicy hops and faint alcohol.

Slightly fuller medium body, decent carbonation, sticky on the tongue. This drinks pretty well, although this can was probably a little past its prime. Still a drinkable, fairly balanced DIPA.

My man Kevin hooked this up in our recent trade! Unfortunately the seal was compromised so the beer had leaked a bit into the bag it was packaged in ;( however, upon opening the can it was still pressured up so I poured to a pint glass to sample. The beer arrives a deep amber orange color, almost, brown with a nice 1.5 finger white cap with decent retention and lacing. The nose is hoppy with a strong pine character and a less dominant citrus blend. Smells inviting! The taste was oxidized and really dominated the palette, likely from the poor seal upon canning. Well carbonated and medium bodied. I would love to try a good sample some day, the oxidation was just too much and likely not present in a better sample.

A- Pours a crystal clear bright golden amber color with a nice off white head. Head pretty good retention and leaves quite a bit of spotty lacing.

S- Bam there's hops in your face on this one. Tons of tropical fruits. A bit of grassy here too. Some light bread too.

T- Great amount of hops leading the way. Malts are here but are dominanted by the hops. A bit of an alcohol burn here too. I digging the up front hop bitterness for sure.

M- Very sticky. Medium in body and carbonation.

O- I really enjoyed this one.

Sample: 1 can 2012

A: Pours a medium foamy head which becomes nice lacing, decent internal carbonation, copper orange in color

S: Citrus, hops, apple, mango, various tropical fruits, overall quite fragrant and quite fruity

T: Very heavy on the apple flavor in my opinion, nice balance between the sweet and bitter elements, citrus and hops abound

M: Smooth and drinkable, not too bitter, aftertaste is still a bit lingering though, and certainly a mouth dryer

O: A well-balanced, fruity and high citrus double, easy to drink and fragrant as well

22 oz can into a pint glass. 046 stamped on the underside of the can.

A - Very dark amber body. 3 finger high fluffy off white head dies down to a thin cap with some messy edging.

S - Very sweet malts and grapefruit. There is some dankiness hidden way in the finish. Similar to the onion aroma found in Founders Devil Dancer, but much less pronounced. Piney and earthy. Alcoholic warmth is noticeable.

T - Sweet caramel malts and danky/piney hops. A bit of grapefruit citrus. Heavy and robust for an IIPA. Finish is bitter and long. Medium mouth feel with some creaminess to it.

O - An exceptional DIPA that is very heavy on the sweetness. Lots of nice complexities happening with a solid caramel malt backbone. This is a really well made beer that I'm sure is phenomenal when fresher.

Got in my big swap with MordorMongo. Thanks, homie. Poured into my Hill Farmstead tulip.

A - Dark orangeish brownish hue. Decent off white lacing.

S - Some citrus in there with a good amount of pine. Definitely a strange medicinal sweetness that creeps in there as well. Have had that smell in a few double IPA's.

T - Good pine and citrus and a lot of malty sweetness. Not the typical carmelly sweetness though. A different type of sweetness.

M - Good carbonation makes it very easy drinking.

O - That sweetness just really takes away from the beer. And it gets more prevalent as it gets warmer. Not a bad beer, but Osiris is much better. I have much higher hopes for Grapefruit Jungle.

A- Rich, amber hue. Thick, frothy head with great lacing. Beautiful.

S- Light yet enticing. Not a lot of hops hit the nose. Tropical fruits in sweet cream

T- This is the biggest WOW factor. I mean, some might disagree with the IIPA status and I wouldn't argue. This is a sweet-ish beer with a perfect balance of hops. It isn't dank or enamel-curdling. Strong notes of tropical fruit. Pineapple sweetness and mango spiciness. A bit of bubble gum. As the beer warms, the flavors intensify and the beer takes on a truly addicting nature. This is a beer I love holding on the tongue to luxuriate in.

M- So, so smooth. Brilliant, dry finish.

O- Love this beer. I have never been much of a beer reviewer which is odd since there are many beers out there that have grabbed my attention. I couldn't resist reviewing this one. I have fallen in love. Whatever you call this beer, it is wonderful and the best thing I have tasted from Sun King. One of the best beers from Indiana.
