Cans are growing in popularity amongst small breweries these days. The brewery that seems to be at the forefront of this is Oskar Blues. So, it seems appropriate that Sun King (who is putting out, on a very regional basis, their beers in cans) collaborate with them. I don't believe Wee Muckle is one of those collaborations, but the beer comes in a can, nonetheless.

A friend of mine picked this up for me while she was up in Indy over the weekend--and I'm glad she did--I've been wanting to try something from them for a while.

Wee Muckle pours a dark brown color with murky reddish hues around its edges. A decent tan head floats on top.

The aroma is of sweet caramel, white grapes, vanilla, wet wood, raisins, and a subltle hint of chocolate. Smells like a good wee heavy.

The flavor is of chocolate up front. This flavor lingers for a while, and gives way to other elements such as caramel and cinnamon, raisins, cherries, and brown sugared oatmeal.

The overall character of this beer is quite a perfect match for the current season...it's a warming beer, full of spicy flavor and comforting elements. It's a drinkable Scotch ale, heavy on ABV and a little sweet, but the body of this beer is balanced, well-crafted, and colorful.

16 Oz can poured into a snifter

A- A deep colored murky red. Very little of an off white head. A big looking beer.

S- A sweet caramel malt dominates the nose. There is a slight roasted character as well. A load of dark fruit. A slight grain and yeast as well. A really strong nose on this one.

T- A big sugary sweetness up front. A massive silky smooth caramel body to this beer. A bunch of toffee and nougat. A huge dark fruit presence, there is ton of fig and plum in this beer. A big grain flavor and a nice fruityness from the yeast.

M- A massive feel to this beer. Really syrupy and silky smooth. A slight warming. Dangerously drinkable.

O- This is a damn good Scotch ale. Its big, syrupy and flavorfull. A perfect candidate for barrel aging, do it Sun King. My only gripe is the price, 17$ a 4 pack is a bit steep but it is a great brew.

Can of scotch ale? Sure! 16oz can from CWBlues, into a tulip.

Dark brown with some khaki head. Moderate retention and only a bit of lace. Dark fruits and some distinct dark spicy bread character. A bit of dark fruit gummies as well. Palate has toasted malts, dark fruits, some toffee character and even a touch of roast that comes out mid-late palate. A bit of alcohol that's easily forgiveable. Lower carbonation, and medium-full feel. Excellent.

A: Pours a dark brown with a medium tan head that quickly goes away.

S: Some sweet, bready malt with a bit of roastiness.

T: Follows the smell. Lots of sweet malt thats slighty roasty. There is also some raisin, plum, and caramel with a bit of alcohol warming. The finish is just slightly bitter.

M: Medium carbonation with medium body.

O: I enjoyed this, but I think it could use a bit creamier, smoother mouthfeel.

Big thanks to Kegatron for gifting me with a can of this. 16oz into a snifter, the brew appears a dark mahogany with a finger of khaki head that is composed of big bubbles and is quick to fade. Rising bubbles maintain a ring around the outside perimeter of the glass. When held to the light, it shows some brownish coloration and some chunks of yeast are stuck in suspension.

The aroma is a bit nutty mixed with bready grains and a hint of toffee to caramel-like sweetness. The more I smell this brew, the more sweet smelling it gets almost with a hint of vanilla as well. As it warms up, a mild hint of that 8% abv starts to poke through along with a mild suggestion of herbal hops. Overall, not a bad smelling brew.

The flavor is sweet with hints of toffee, caramel and mild light molasses. A bit of bready to toasty grain almost nutty at times with a minor fruit ester and hints of fruity hops to melt out the focus on nothing but residual sugar. More sips bring out a bit of herbal hop character but that is quite faint in comparison to the maltiness and residual sugar found in this brew.

This is a medium to fuller bodied brew. It is slightly lower than moderate carbonation which is fitting for the style. Overall this is a pretty solid take on a wee heavy and worth a try but not something I would go out of my way for or buy multiples of. I am appreciative of the chance to try this and have no problems throwing back the 16oz.

A-Black in the glass, more of a clear brown/amber around the edges, one finger office white head that doesn't last

S-Very malty, some peat, tad bit of roasted malt, was expecting more here.

T-Lots of malt, good balance, chocolate, smoke, tad bit of wood and vanilla, plums and darker fruits even some slight bitterness.

M-Medium bodied, some carbonation but a tad watery.

O-Scotch Ales are an under made style, a great malty brew.
