Had it on tap at Sun King here in Indy.

5$ for a 12oz fill.

Price aside. It was an excellent brew.

It was Nitro Timmie that i had. Filled the glass with dark black color and a brown head about two fingers thick. Good persistent head. Excellent lacing. Opaque inside the glass.

Smell: A lot of alcohol is apparent. Regular roasted black malts, caramel and chocolate flavors. Some vanilla and a lot of malt flavors. A lot of burnt malts flavor. Slight hop presence as well.

Taste: Very much the nose. Alcohol is dizzying. Some dark dry fruits, may be. Vanilla, caramel, dark malts and chocolate. Bitterness is apparent due mainly to hops and burnt malts. A very good hop profile used as well.

Mouth feel :Very full bodied solid stout. Very thick. Low on carbonation. Very heavy drinking. Astringency is derived from alcohol, burnt malts and hops. Provides a lot of warmth, again mainly due to alcohol.

Overall. An excellent nitro adjusting, very solid russian imperial stout.

A seasonal offering, Timmie is one of my favorite Sun King beers and I always look forward to its return. It is near black, oily and thick looking like any good RIS. What hits me in the smell is a bit of smokiness and molasses. These show up again in the taste, while smoothly integrated with chocolate, coffee, and roasty bitterness in the finish. A great, warming winter beer flavor. Mouthfeel is nice and thick while not being too syrupy. Overall, this is an excellent RIS and offers a little something different.

Thanks to kegatron for bringing a growler of this one to Stakem's Fish Fry.

A - Pours jet black with a decent one finger tall tan head leaving small trails of lace down parts of the glass. Pretty standard stout pour here.

S - Smells of dark roasted malt, charred oak, coffee grounds, bit of cocoa powder and a bit of booze at the end of each sniff. The roast is strong, threatening to overpower everything else.

T - Starts off with a ton of dark roast and some light chocolaty sweetness slowly giving way to hints of fresh brewed coffee, dark fruits and a good amount of charred oak. The dark roast continues through the finish, lingering on the pallet long after consumption. A little rough but the base is strong.

M - Big, heavy body with lots of dark roasted flavors and moderate carbonation. The roast is strong at the beginning and only grows stronger. The booze is hidden pretty well for being 10%.

O - A pretty good stout. A little too roasty for me, I like my stouts to be more well rounded. If they can smooth out the rough edges of this one I think it could be really good.

64 oz brewery filled growler into a tulip glass.

Pours black, with a finger of dark mocha colored head. This maintains a tight and creamy ½ finger of foam, which whips up a rich cascade that slowly drips down the sides of the glass yet doesn’t actually leave a whole of lace sticking back. The aroma smells of smoky roast, cocoa, and ripe citrus, while spicy alcohol sweetness and warmth spreads out across the back of the nose.

The taste is bittersweet chocolate, burnt coffee, some rather strong citric hops, and a pronounced splash of alcohol on the tail end here that finishes this with sweet warmth and a dry lingering spiciness. Charred smokiness lingers on the breath after each sip. The mouthfeel is full bodied, with a prickly yet also chewy creaminess that spreads out into the mouth. This is definitely sharp feeling up front. Maybe a little too much, as it helps draw out extra strength from the hops and alcohol. Speaking of which, any heat from that big 10% ABV is pretty well hid here but the alcohol flavors from it have boldness to them that comes on a little too strong at times.

I liked the mix of aggressive Stout flavors here but this overall seemed to need a bit more finesse to really pull things together into a nicely drinkable package. Right now, the hops, roast, and alcohol are just too assertive and my palate was pretty much worn out from it after 2 glasses from the growler. If you don’t mind a bit of a fierce punch to your Imperial Stouts, this is worth checking out. I was just looking for more of a well rounded package from this.

Big thanks to Kegatron for bringing a growler of this to the 2nd annual stakem fish fry and bottle share. About a quarter of the growler remained and was offering to me for reviewing at a later time... that later time is now, thanks Heath! Growler cap comes off with a hiss and poured into a thistle just because. It's a black looking brew with a thin dark tan head. A light swirl agitates bubbles from solution and produces spots of lace on the glass.

The smell is pleasantly roasty with dark grain giving off an aroma that is well balanced between coffee and dark chocolate. A bit of fruity alcohol hints towards a sweeter note of raisins and licorice. All in all this is a fine smelling RIS that transitions nicely from one aromatic to the other. Nothing is fighting for attention, it all works together nicely.

The taste includes dark roasty sweetness like figs and raisins blended into semi-sweet chocolate and bitterness of fresh roasted coffee. The alcohol includes a soft touch of solvent to fusel flavor that produces a warmth down the back of the throat and changes the focus of flavor into that of tobacco, earth and a touch of anise. Just like the aroma though, all the flavors really blend together here to make a solid package.

This is a very nicely put together RIS offering. It is slightly heavier than medium bodied with a moderate to lower level of carbonation. The alcohol is integrated very well and leaves just enough inclusion to warm you up and let you know it is there. It is smooth and excessively drinkable for a 10% brew. For my first sun king offering, color me impressed! Thanks again Heath!

Poured a wonderfully deep black with very nice tan head and a bit of decent lacing throughout. Nice roasted grain aroma with a slight hint of burnt toffee and a nice earthy hop aroma. Good deep roasted/burnt malt flavors with a slight hint of coffee and a decent earthy hop finish; just nothing as deep and dark as I would've expected and without the extra deep flavors usually produced by imperial stouts. Went down nicely, though, for such a big beer. Not the best, but it's still worth a try.
