This extraordinary and sparkling "DeUs, Brut des Flandres", brewed with barley, is fermented and matured in Belgium, refermented in the bottle, followed but the traditional "remuarge" and "dégorgement" in France. Serve chilled (2 - 4º C) and pour gently into a chilled flute or chalice glass.

It's an event as much as it is a beer.
Glamored like it's about to star on the red carpet, this is one sexy looking bottle. I've been intrigued for months by the bottle on my local beer store's shelf. Now it's time to taste for myself what all the fuss is about.

A laborious effort to get through the pamphlets, plastic rings, foil covering, twisted wire cage and tight corking. Finally --- pop!!!
As satisfying as any bottle of bubbly in the foreplay.

But how is it?

Well, first note. I've written this whole diatribe and the champagne flute of Deus is still bubbling like a swamp in Dagobah. I'm not making this up: I can actually *hear* this beer from across the table. The head is self-regenerating. As soon as the top starts to fade, the bubbles force up a new head. There must be some geological reference here, but I'll save for that for the next time I visit Wilipedia.

The smell is clean, crisp, clear, sweet and sharp. It most definitely has a nice Belgiany character going on here. Is it merely a triple? Smells like it. Let's taste.

Wow. I was expecting something to kick me in the teeth -- something so different an memorable that I couldn't explain it. Instead, what I'm experiencing is an extremely good beer.

The flavors that you expect are all here. Sweet candi sugars, fruity esters, a bit of spiciness, the warmth of alcohol. They're all here, but they blend together impressively well. It's an absurdly smooth 11.5% ABV beer.

I've written enough. Now I shall drink.

Drank at Crispean's by Ermida in Abrantes, Portugal.

From memory: As a craft beer lover, I've wanted to drink this beer since I remember. Thankfully, very early I learned that this was not worth the asking price and because of that, the priority to taste this was moved way most stuff. Still, one day, I was surprised as an acquaintance poured me a glass of DeuS. This was my first chance to try this beer.

What I remember is that it was a huge disappointment with minimal notes of citrus, apple, and toasted bread, but the rest of it reminded me of a dead pale ale with nothing to show for it.

Beer for celebrating a 30th birthday. A 2010 vintage, served and consumed in 2023. Reviewed from notes.

Pours an orange-yellow color with a clear transparency. Head is two fingers of white foam. Mild floaties in the first pour, with transparency dropping to a heavy fog after the final pour. Floaties stay mild.

Aroma is apple, green apple, and grapes for a mild chardonnay smell. Oak, clove, and mild banana dress it up a little further.

Flavor profile is back to chardonnay notes - apple, green apple, green grapes, and oak. Mild stone, clove, and banana pair with faint herbal and grassy hops for a little bit more depth.

Mouth feel is medium in thickness. It's effervescent at the onset of a sip, but stills out to a glass-like finish. A very mild silt to the texture.

Overall, pretty mild in whole, but this bottle has age on it. Most definitely a fun and unique beer for those seeking something between champagne and beer.

Served in a 15.5oz Spiegelau tulip from a 750mL bottle. Reviewed from notes.

Pours slightly cloudy and bright yellow with with a lot of brut fizz that lingers. Mild aromas of grass, gym socks, fruitiness, hot concrete when the rain hits. The flavor reflect the aromas, but possibly even more mildly. Fruitiness is more up front, followed by fauna, and a friendly brut dryness. A very elegant beer.

750ml bottle into a champagne glass. 2015 vintage, so 6 years old.

Looking very good in the tall glass. Glassy apple juice colored body. Carbonation present every pour, fizzy and sparkling.

Very floral aroma, but pleasant not suffocating.

On tasting, floral, slightly fruity, a hint of spice, and quite drying.

Mouth above medium, finish is the only place abv is felt. Quite warming.

Overall, excellent dinner beer. Was a bit shocked by the abv, would have guessed half that from the taste. A lot of work goes into producing this beer, much appreciated by this palate.

750ml corked/caged bottle served in a slightly tulippy stemmed glass. Cuvee Prestige 2017.

Pours clear, very light copper, big head, TONS of carbonation, sustaining a large head and clearly visible from a distance. Smell is mostly funky / yeasty, maybe some grape must, maybe some peach.

Taste is in the same theme, but not the same balance. Definitely some funk, but a candy sweetness offsets it. Definitely some yeastiness, but twisted a little toward earthiness. I think the peach stands up and maybe is a little accentuated.

Mouthfeel is, of course, light, dry, and exceedingly effervescent. Overall...this is the only beer of the style that I've had so I cannot profess that it's great or terrible relative to the style, but it is a clean, interesting, and very tasty beer that is quite different than the many others I have tried.

Shared bottle at RBNAG 2011, as Deus Brut des Flandres Cuvée Prestige 2010. Clear and sparkling straw coloured beer. Dryish aroma, moderate but very pleasant farmhouse notes. Very dry and crisp flavour, no doubt a fine beer, but is it worth the high price?

This is my beer to celebrate the demise of 2020 and hope for a better 2021! I bought this at Susan’s Wine Shop in Santa Fe, NM.

The cork popped enthusiastically and the foam came forth! Poured into a tulip glass. Bright clear yellow color with luxurious white foamy head and excellent curtain lacing. Sweet champagne smell and taste. Candied lemon, vanilla, and cinnamon and other warm spices. Truly a treat. Cheers!

( Couldn’t get my mother in law to try it!)
