I stopped here a few weeks ago to check out their beer selection. I grew up in Sun Prairie, but during high school I wasn't really into craft beer. Coming back I was glad to see a store that had some craft beer in my hometown.
I walked in and was greeted by the employee behind the counter. I look a peak around the coolers and found some Smuttynose, Souther Tier, various Wisconsin breweries and more.
I decided to leave with the Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale, Southern Tier Pumking Ale and an Orval Trappist Ale. Not a bad pickup from a little store in Sun Prairie. I talked about beer for a little bit with the employee working there as well which was nice. A little customer service can go a long way.
They also have some homebrewing supplies, and although limited, it's still nice to have a local store to visit if you want to make a homebrew purchase.

Stopped by after coming across this place on the directory function set up by Todd and Jason. Big props.
I was hoping they may have had some left over KBS, but they didn't. No biggie. I got to check out this great little store. She has quite a bit of everything. A good, concise wine and spirits section. A very nice selection of cheese, and some other snacks here and there. The beer selection is nothing too special (I actually bumped up the selection .5 because of everything else that is available there). There isn't anything here that you can't find in downtown Madison. I hit it on a bad day, as I was driving thru on Monday, and I think the selection was a little picked over from the weekend. She did have some Founders Breakfast Stout on the shelf, as well as Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence, so some things that aren't all that readily available. It's worth the stop, as you can bop into Eddie's next store for a great selection of craft brews.

I took a drive to Sun Prairie on Saturday with my wife to check out Cannery.
I was very impressed on walking in. They must have 7 coolers or so full of craft beer. They had a great selection. I had a really tough time trying to figure out what to get. We spent quite a bit of time looking through their selection. The owners were there and were very friendly and helpful with any questions I had.
In addition to the beer, they had an extensive liquor department as well as a home brew and winemaking section too. They also had steaks and meat, cheese and pizza. This is a one stop shop for sure.
Everything was very clean and organized well. There was a small build your own 6-pack section that I picked out a few beers from. I wish that had been a little more expansive but not a big deal.
I'll definitely be returning to Cannery in the future!

You don't find many liquor stores like this even in Wisconsin. These are true beer people that know their stuff and have great realtionships with the breweries. If you love good beer, this is where you go. I am not sure about the complaints of O'so Brewery and Lake Louie. I saw quite a lot of options for both the last time I was there. You might have caught them when both of those breweries were running a little short. I know they both have a tendancy to not meet all of the demand, but are great people that make great beers. What a great state to live in if you like good beer!!

If you are not near a Woodmans or HyVee in Madison Cannery Wine and Spirits is a great place to go for micro brews and the equivalent micro foods (Kringle, and odd little yummy's you would only find at gift stores).
This is the little shop that could. It's getting better every week with it's selections of micro brews. What they lack in quantity they own up in quality and you can always find somebody with an honest opinion on new beer. They stay away from micro-crap (which there are a few) and keep the good stuff.
What I find surprising is that they seem to get beer in that the big boys do not get at times. While the big guns will get ALL of a micro brews styles, if a small place only has ONE style Woodman's will not carry it while Cannery will.
A side note is that they cater to the home brewer and carry wine and beer making supplies and are the home of the Sun Prairie Wort Hogs Home Brew Club. This tells you something right there!

I explained to the person at the counter that my wife says' I'm very picky about what beer I will drink. (those weren't her exact words) I tell my wife that's not true. It's just that most places don't carry the beer I like to drink when we go out to eat.
The person helping me asked what I like to drink. So Oktoberfest is my first choice, and then my second choice is Doppelbock. As you can see my problem is the first and second choice tend to be seasonal and I have no third choice.
He seemed extremely knowledgeable and had suggested a few other types of WI local brews to try. He was even kind enough to split up some cold ones into a sample pack so I wouldn't be stuck with a bunch of extra beer that I didn't care for. Then told me that I should come in for beer tastings they do to sample other different local brews and styles.
The result is I now have a few more style choices for beer that my discerning pallet will tolerate.
However my wife still thinks I'm nuts!

My wife went to the quilt store and I went to the beer store. My wife was actually done before I was!!
I walked into the store and saw lots of wine making supplies, then wine, then liquor and in the middle was the beer. They don't have everything but they have what I think is most of the good stuff that is available in Wisconsin I was able to get some Kentucky Breakfast stout from Founders. There was not a beer in there that the owner did not know the story. Excellent service, nice people, good supply and $100 later, I was happy.

Stopped in while in Sun Prairie for a funeral. This is a small shop with a wide variety of stuff: wine, beer, liquor, glassware, homebrew supplies, chocolate, t-shirts and I think I saw icecream?
All the beer was clean and looked pretty fresh. Most of it was in coolers though there was overflow onto a few racks. There's a small singles selection (less than 30 beers) that are sold as a group 6-pack for $9.99 rather than individually priced. This sort of sucks because it limits what they're going to put onto the singles rack.
The service was very nice. They allowed my sisters boyfriend who was with me to buy them out of spotted cow (don't ask me why he would want to do this) and helped me find all sorts of things and answered questions even about things I wasn't going to buy.
The selection was ok, but lacking. Not a huge selection of New Glarus and I noticed no Founders, no Bells, no Lake Front, not very much Lake Louie or O'so or some other WI things I hoped to find. But really the singles thing is what killed me.

Interesting store, it has a little of everything. There is wine, liquor, boutique food, homebrewing supplies, and craft beer. The beer selection is pretty expansive among Wisconsin breweries and surrounding states. They have pretty much everything New Glarus and Tyranena offer and at least 3 beers from a dozen others.
The woman that was working when I was there was very nice and also pretty knowledgable about the different beers they sold. I was looking for a NG unplugged beer and she set the last 4 pack aside for me while I was on my way.
I didn't take too much of a look at the homebrewing side of the place but there were a bunch of different grains for sale. She mentioned that the local homebrewing club meets there so they must be pretty decent.
A little out of the way but definitely worth stopping in while you're there.
