I am a beginner homebrewer, and have taken Keystone's "Intro to Brewing" class, and have now shopped there a couple of times.

The space of the new building is now very spacious, well organized, and has space for a classroom in the back. They have a diverse selection of equipment, books, and ingredients for beer making, but also wine and cheese making. They also have a section of glasses, tshirts, taps, signs, and other brewery swag.

The staff is super friendly and helpful. They seem more than willing to help out with any questions and help you assemble a recipe and ingredients. They sell what seems to be a wide variety of extract and then grain, hops, and yeast. they also have a large number of pre-assembled recipe kits for brewing any standard style you can think of.

My husband is now on his 5th homebrew batch, and this place has been our provider of all things homebrewing since he started. You can tell that the employees really take what they do seriously. The selection is OUTSTANDING and even if they do not have a certain kit in stock, they will put one together for you. Anything you could possibly need, they have. I love the atmosphere of this place...even though I am not the one brewing, it's fun to go and be around others who take craft brews seriously. Very nice and helpful staff. All of the brews my husband has made have turned out great...I'm sure the kits with explicit directions have helped, along with all of his research and effort. I just wish this place was closer!

I can't say enough about this homebrew shop. They have fantastic prices on most things plus a great selection of hops and even better selection on yeast. Keystone also has a huge assortment of other brewing related items like cheese making, wine making, and books and more. They also stock kegging related equipment and related parts like o-rings and tubing. They also have merchandise from main stream breweries and a crazy amount of glassware. They have a very knowledgeable staff. I had questions concerning my new nitro system and the staff answered all my questions and helped me get set up.
Highly recommended.

The staff here is always very attentive and willing to help in anyway possible. The new store has a great feel to it. Great lighting and its huge! They have all the brewing supplies you could ever need here. They hold wine making and beer tasting classes. In addition to hops, malt, grain, etc you can pick up glasses, brewery swag, growlers, books, etc, etc you name it. This place is downright awesome and if you homebrew you definitely need to check this place out. Even if you don't homebrew you need to check this place out I'm sure you will learn a thing or two as well.

So I finally decided to take the leap and get into homebrewing. Indeed as I type this, my first batch is in its 7th hour of fermentation.

There is a brew shop fairly close to me, and one in Philly that I could easily get to, but I decided to get my supplies from Keystone, based on reputation and word of mouth, and so far, I'd say the recommendations are justified. The shop is meticulous and stocked with pretty much anything you could ask for. Including but not limited to: beer-making kits, wine-making kits, cheese-making kits, bottles, caps, utensils, miscellaneous glassware, literature, sanitizer, fresh live yeast, fresh refrigerated hops, sugar, fruit extract, fresh barley, dry extract, liquid extract, brand name kits, and more importantly, kits assembled by the employees, all containing fresh ingredients for making a wide range of diverse beer styles, from witbiers to imperial stouts.

The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about the craft, and can answer all your [relevant] questions. It's a bit of a drive for me, but I'd gladly go out of my way to get to this place for my brewing supplies from now on.

Just wanted to state that the new place is bigger and much needed. The few times I've been to the 'old' spot I was cramped next to hop pellets and boilers and various equipment. The new spot, everything is laid out nice and all your homebrewing needs are at your fingertips. There were about three people working there on a slow tuesday afternoon. Also a nice glassware selection at pretty good prices. Im picking up a Allagash glass next time im in. Also tons of empty bottles to stick ur homebrew in. Not sure if he still works here but ask for Aaron, super nice guy that knows his stuff.

The guys at Keystone Homebrew have moved to a bigger place just up the road! On Rt 222 North in the second shopping center on the right-hand side (just up from the intersection at Rts 309/202/463).

Haven't been there yet but they were way overdue for a much bigger space. Glad to hear they made the plunge.

These guys are very knowledgeable and will help anyone, from the curious beginner to sage brewer.

For something different (or wives of brewers), try the fresh mozzarella kit. Amazed at how good fresh cheese is.

Keystone Homebrew Supply is a great local shop that has just about everything.

This location is right on the corner of North Wales Rd and 309 in Lansdale/Montgomeryville, Pa. This place has a great selection, whether your looking for supplies to make your homebrews, ingredients to put in your homebrews, or books or other such items needed to make or enjoy beer. This place has it. They also have other novelities as well that are great for those looking to add things to a basement bar or great gifts for your friends that enjoy homebrews as well.

This location also has some great literature, if your looking to just start home brews, or if you have been brewing for some time and you want to challange yourself with new harder brews.

The staff is super knowledgable, and most brew themselves. These guys know there stuff. So if you ever have a question about home brews, seek these guys out. If they don't have what your looking for, they can most likely get it.

This is a great place. Check it out. Take a stab at home brews.

This has become my go-to place for homebrew stuff. It is set up in what appears to have been a house, and is quite cramped and somewhat messy. Don't let this fool you though, they have tons of stuff packed into this place, and if you can't find anything just ask and they will track it down for you right away.

The best part about this Keystone is the service. Everyone I have dealt with knows a lot about their products, as well as brewing. They have given me a lot of good advice and are always friendly and fun to talk to.

I go out of my way and drive farther to get my supplies and equipment at this place, but it is totally worth it for their willingness to help and the quality of their ingredients, which I am assuming most turn over pretty quickly. I highly recommend this establishment.

Looking at some of these other reviews, my few experiences may be a bit of an outlier, but nonetheless I am compelled to report. The first time I went, I went with the bare bones of a smokey English ale in my head. They gave me the specs of a kit they had, and i asked to substitute amber for light malt extract and up the crystal from 1/2 to 1#. They changed the AME to LME, but when i got home and weighed my malt, they did not up my crystal (i guess i should have caught it at the store, but i guess i missed it. I checked the receipt and was not overcharged). I went back a second time for another recipe and the staff was again very friendly and helpful, but I was given some poor advice on a minimash which sounded off to me, but as an inexperienced brewer, I accepted. Turned out to be a bit of a disaster.

Despite the above, the staff was very kind, helpful (regarding their product), and attentive. I would definitely go back because they seem to be a good place, I would just have a better idea of everything I want to do before I go in.

7/23/11

Just went to their new location and was blown away. One of the best selections I have ever seen. Just about anything I could want, ingredient wise or equipment wise, was there. They carry a ton of both Wyeast and Whitelabs strains, a ton of different malts, both in small amounts and in 55lb bags, a large variety of hops, and shelves full of different equipment. They also have a large selection of glasses, steins, tap handles, and t-shirts which are pretty cool. Guys were very cool and helpful and attentive. Definitely one of the best homebrew shops I have ever been to. (Previous experiences notwithstanding)

I have brought newbies in to get what they need and they always like what they see and get.

They hold great events and are very encouraging to brewers of all levels.

Only hold-up is on the size of there space but they get a lot in there an the owner is looking to expand anyway.

Where I get all of my homebrew supplies. What keeps me coming back in lieu of the less expensive alternative (online ordering). Simple: the outstanding service and knowledge on the part of the staff. Whether you are dealing with Jason the owner, Lou the manager, or one of the many workers there - they deeply know their product and have a passion for brewing. And if they don't have something - they will order it for you.

The only negative is parking can be scarce at peak times, and getting to the lot is a little difficult. But that has never stopped anyone I know from shopping there.

I cannot say enough about the service - I had researched a ton before I went in, and these guys definitely know their stuff. The person who helped me was really nice and explained everything very well while answering all the questions I had. They got me set up with a nice starter kit and a few ingredients to make a couple batches of beer.

Prices seemed reasonable...the same or slightly cheaper than online. That being said, I also don't really know of any other homebrew stores around...

Selection seemed good - a variety of supplies, hops, malts, etc. Definitely more than enough variety for the beginning or intermediate homebrewer.

This place is cozy to say the least (often crowded on weekends) but they manage to fit quite a selection in there. Good grain selection, and they mill it there for you which is very convenient. Pretty good selection of hops too, I especially like the American Hop Plugs. I've used their boxed recipe kits a few times and they've never disappointed.

I've never been to another homebrew shop, but I can't imagine a staff being any better than the guys here. Often times I end up talking with them for quite a while after I'm done, and usually they have good ideas to improve my recipes. They all seem to be very enthusiastic brewers, and it shows in the service.

The quality of the ingredients are top notch. Fresh extracts, hops, and grains.

The service of this shop is what keeps me coming back. I can usually come in with a recipe and they will help me work out some of the kinks and give helpful suggestions.

The selection is usually good, although on a few occasions they have been out of certain grains and extracts.

The prices are a bit more expensive than if I were to purchase online, but I always like to help out the local business.

Highly recommended for all homebrewing needs.

Having not visited too many brewshops, my comments can only be based on the brewing podcasts I listen to and my experiences at this shop. They seem to have a decent variety of extracts, grains, hops, wine supplies, equipment and books/magazines. There hasn't been anything I needed that they couldn't supply. The prices seem reasonable to me, but again, I haven't shopped anywhere else. The service is first rate. Everytime I visit the staff are very helpful and always willing to answer questions. They even offerred to answer any questions I may have when I'm brewing (provided they're at the shop).

Their newsletter and e-mails are always full of information. The shop also hosts the local homebrew meetings. They often hod events at the store and even have classes for first time homebrewers.

The store features supplies for various homebrewing adventures--wine, beer, etc. You can also buy glassware, neon signs, shirts, books on homebrewing and the like. They offer classes and have a homebrewing club. I just moved back to the area from Boston so I'm hoping to get more involved in that. My owner complaint about the place is that the parking situation is less than ideal. There is a lot, but I usually wind up parking at the nearby Borders and walking over.

A great store staffed my knowledgeable, passionate people. I stopped in here a few weeks ago to get my wife a homebrew kit for her birthday. BA leftmindedrighty helped me get everything I needed for her to brew a nice Belgian white. Good tips I would not have known (like make sure to refrigerate your hops until you use them; was not obvious to me anyway).

We went back for a beginner home brew class earlier in the week, and then again today to get a couple additional items they recommended at the class. The class was great and has us fired up to try our first homebrew this weekend.

I don't have anything to compare to so go by the experienced homebrewer reviews if you're one of them. But if you're a dopey beginner as I am, this place is great.

A little background:
Just starting at the hombrewing, but we are on our second batch and it is absolutely drinkable. The first try was a preboxed Cerveza set that is OK at best. For this second try we asked the folks over at Keystone for some Old English Ale ideas. Their recipe came out a little on the darker side, but it is quite nice.

Service was good when we had questions, and they are always willing to spend some time with you talking beer or ideas, even if you aren't buying anything.

Selections is nice. A good supply of both liquid and dry malts, and a vast supply of yeast options.

I would definitely recommend them to anyone in the area.

Fortunately, the staff is always quick to help you find what you need and make suggestions about what to sub in to your recipe (helpful during the hop shortage) or improvements to your equipment. After I moved, I needed to replace a lot of my equipment and I found just about everything I needed here. They also have kegging equipment and fixtures as well as a small (but good) selection of brewing books. They have a great selection of hops (whole, plugs, pellets) and malt, plus a variety of liquid yeasts. I end up buying quite a bit of malt from them in bulk, which saves some coin. All right, this is my first homebrew store review so I don't have anything to compare it too. One needs at least two perspectives to be objectives, so I'm not sure how valid this will be.

The store itself is a bit tricky to find as its hidden behind another building as you're coming up 309. By the time you've seen it, you've passed it. Look for the blue Pa keystone logo on the sign on the side of the road and then immediately turn right.

The place seems packed to the gills with goodies. I'm not sure yet what they all do, but I assume I'll know in time. Is it cluttered or an efficient use of available space? I'll assume the latter. Their selection appears to be in order with plenty of ready made kits of varying difficulty standing by for the fledgling homebrewer. I'm not sure what else I can say.

The greatest asset I see this store having is a surplus of helpful individuals to answer all of your brewing needs. Every time I've gone there, there have been several people there and most are engaged in conversation with the staff. I've had great luck with talking with the staff about method and anticipating results of experimentation. This is far more priceless than any helpful forum. The service, if not anything else really makes me think highly of this place.

They hold big brews, cook outs and group brews. It doesn't matter who you have a question for they know or will find out the answer.

Very home like feel to the store. You can help yourself to yeast and hops. They will always weigh and mill your grain to your exact specifications. You can even email your order ahead of time so its ready for pick up.

This is my local homebrew shop (about 10miles away from home) and I consider myself lucky to be so close.

Located near the corner of North Wales Rd and 309, it sits across from Walgreens and sort of in front of Borders. It has a small, usually crowded parking lot that is very hard to manuver when coming in from the 309 side. Once you get into the store, manuvering isn't any easier! It's loaded with all gear imaginable.

I have been there a couple times now for homegrewing supplies as well as glasses and a wall mounted bottle opener. Every time I visited, the service was impeccable. You can tell they are eager to help you and they have the same passion for the hobby as their patrons. They have helped me put together beers and have offered very informative advice on my recipes.

As far as their stock goes, I have always found what I needed, except an aerator, which was easy enough to find at Home Depot. They also have a selection of tap handles, neon signs, glassware (mostly generic) and wine making supplies.

I would recommend to any present or future homebrewer in the area to pay this store a visit.

Jason and John are incredibly nice guys, and they're more than willing to answer any question you have. The rest of the staff are damn fine professionals too, and between the staff, there's really no way to stump them.

Yeast here is all Wyeast, and they're willing to do special orders whenever you need an obscure strain (for a little markup, but eh, it's worth it).

The place is cramped, but in a good way -- anything you need, you'll find. Other highlights include cheap prices on glassware, fresh varietal honey for meads, steins, and other knicknacks.

I've been told by wine-making friends of mine that this store is tops in that category as well.

Great service, fantastic turnover (which = very fresh ingredients), and plenty of selection...let me put it this way: If you're a homebrewer in Montgomery County, and this isn't your LHBS, you're a damn fool.

I think they have a great philosophy when potential new homebrewers walk through the door - they will not try to sell something that you do not need. This philosophy also applies to return customers. The advice I got from the folks there was generally sound. You can always call them with questions during the brewing process if you run into a problem. Prices are reasonable.

The selection if plentiful, and they can order anything you might need in a reasonable time. Hops, yeast and grains are properly stored. You can get a good home kegging setup here as well. They have a special seasonal hop offering of rare and/or hard to find hops. Oh, and for those of you who like neon signs, this is the place to be - they have bringht neons lining the walls of the store.

Also check out the Keystone Hops homebrew club that is run through the store. Lots of great people, and great homebrew, and they have a family picnic every year which is loads of fun!
