On tap at De Dolle on 14 August 2011. Into an Oerbier tulip. 

Hazy golden appearance. Lacing goes from a mountainscape silhouette to leopard spotting. A thin white sheet disappears and reappears in equal time. 

Smell is fully funky. Raspberry dryness. Sweet strawberries, artificial grape Flinstones vitamins, damp basement, early muscadine fermentation. 

Taste is orangey and vinous. Mmm! Ultra-palatable sour, a hint of grape Flinstones vitamins — not chalky, very good. Vinegary canned pineapple. Acidity remains even after a mouth full of food. Becomes more vinous and oaky as it warms, like an Flanders Red. And finally at room temperature it is chalky and biting. 

Mouthfeel. Dry and sour on the front, NAT EN ZUUR towards the finish where it then evaporates into a thinner version of its self. Drinkability is increased with a bit of a loss in character. 

A beautifully infected blonde. What ever hopping falls to the back ground for expressions of fantastic infection to come through.

Poured on tap at De Dolle Brewery in Esen, Belgium. The brewer didn't seem to be in the best mood on the Sunday I visited, but he answered a lot of my questions wearing his Oerbier jacket at the bar while my friends sat on the pleasant terrace in the back. Apparently this beer has no hops at all and is a one-off sour that he made. Forgot to ask what bugs were in there -- damn. But he did say that he left his other beer in open fermentation for three days...

Poured a hazy gold into a tall chalice made for St. Feuillin Grand Cru (all of the other beers were served in Oerbier wineglasses) with a pretty 2 inch head of good-sized bubbles, but not much retention. Aroma of spice, hay, citrus, sour, really nice!

Tasted refreshing, sour, probably lactobacillis. Not super complex, but super yummy! Not the greatest finish -- left a little coating on the tongue and I'd like it to dry out a little more -- but a terrific cap on a terrific visit to De Dolle!
