The smell and flavour of this brew do it for me, big fruity esters with a sweet pale malt base. Has hints of almonds and mango with a warming alcohol. I know it is their spring beer but this is one that could be aged a year or perhaps more and still gain in complexity.

Presentation: 33cl brown Euro-style brown bottle. A freaky ass psycho Easter bunny sits up against a tree, eyeing up a glass of Bos Keun. Obviously Mr. Easter Bunny has his priorities straight ... screw the hopping and Easter candy! He's got beer!
Appearance: Cloudy (from the yeast) orange straw. The head is pretty healthy and settles to a creamy white lace that sticks heavily along the sides of the glass.
Smell: You can get high off of this smell. Earthy, yeasty and sugary sweetness that is nearly cloaked by a medicinal aroma. Estery too with really ripe pineapple aromas.
Taste: First sip releases a lot of foam activity, creating a creamy texture on the palate. Medium bodied. Then comes some lime rind, quick sharpness then a tea-like citrus hop flavour. There's a unique musty quality to this brew with is a bit powdery and adds to the incredible complexity of this beer. All of this is then overtaken by a sugar sweetness and faint background tartness. Finishes a tad dry with some residual sweetness.
Notes: Purchased at 't Brugs Beertje in Brugs for 140 BF, by Todd. 7% abv, and very drinkable. This beer is huge in character and complexity. Can't really say to much more about it as we are in awe of this beer.

Bos Keun has a gorgeous cloudy auburn color, with a bleached-white, billowing tower of bubbles rising with even the most miniscule pouring effort. This head is similar to angel's food cake... somehow, it has mass but it's very light and airy. The amount of bubbling is almost too much, but I did not score this very negatively due to some of the other classic Belgians, like Duvel, having this effect. Of course with this type of head we get excellent lacing as a result. The smell is very syrupy sweet, like toffee and taffy, along with tropical fruits and the signature whiff of Belgian yeast. I found the flavor to be reminiscent of caramel apples at the fair, very tart, and slightly astringent. Delicious pear and citrus esters as well. The mouth feel is somewhat viscous, and the finish was very sharp. Overall, this is right up there with the other exquisite brews from De Dolle. This is a top Belgian Brewer that any fan of the style must try.

$10.00 for the 33cL bottle, served in a tulip
2009 Vintage. Sampled 26DEC12
[A] The pour begins down the center of the glass and moves to the side 2 seconds later once the head gets going. The result is a big, fluffy 2 1/2 finger high bright white head. Relentless effervescence keeps the head everlasting. The body leans between gold and orange but closer to the former. Opaquer than expected. Lacing in a thick splatter of foam.
[S] The nose is all over the place. Clean diaper, aspirin, medicine cabinet, some weird menthol, sweet booze and oxidized malts.
[T] A little better than the nose but still not enjoyable.
[M] Semi full with a prickly carbonation. A little boozy. Good but not great.
[O] Age hasn't treated this one well. I'd like to try this one again soon, but I'll go for a fresh bottle next time. Three plus years was just too long.

Poured from 12oz bottle into pint purcased at 1702 in Tucson. Poures an aggressive pour...foam coming out upon opening. Thick 4 finger head on a golden color. Crazy orange citrus aroma...mixed with belgian yeast and peppery hop.
Taste is crazy citrusy hop meets belgian yeasty peppery spice. Im even tasting a hint of vanilla with grassy notes.
Its so effervescent but smooth. Nicely boozey and such an easy drinker. Really great brew. Highly recommend this...especially on a nice warm afternoon.

33cl bottle, bottled March 2012, into a Weyerbacher tulip.
A: Hazy deep gold body under two full inches of dense, pillowy white head that recedes rockily and leaves tons of chunky lace. Stunning.
S: Whoa. Tart, fresh, intense fruity yeast. Tons of citrus, apple, pear, and plenty of dry minerality underneath to keep things in check. Stupendous.
T: Follows the nose - fruity up front, yeasty in the middle, and bone dry on the finish. Booze on the aftertaste provides a flaw, but not a terrible one. Delicious beer.
M: Hugely carbonated, to the point of being a bit prickly.
O: Amazing beer - I had this back to back with Arabier, and while I loved both this was clearly superior. Hugely complex, extremely drinkable, and thoroughly enjoyable.
Cheers!
