A- A thick brown orange hue. Fingers don't show on the reverse of the glass, indicating a strong appearance.

S- Not the strong suit of this beer, tangerine, malty, bitter, alcohol notes all come into play.

T- Davine! Matches the upfront indications of the smell, but with a hardy afterglow that follows through with the flavor. Strong citrous bitterness that is completely original to this beer.

MF- Strong carbonation upfront, that linger as it slopes down the throat, but strong bite lasts through the aftertaste on the tongue.

Overall this is a fantastic beer. I would drink many more if I weren't already drunk and had any extras. For a 10% beer I am completely sold. I was sceptically to spend $7 on this one, but I understand the price tag given the robust flavor and extremely satiating flavors...

Bottled August 2010. Poured to duvel tulip the beer is a mostly clear orange amber with a billowing 3 finger white bubbly head that continues to crow at least 2 fingers out of the glass, wow. Yeast particles noticeable even after a careful pour. Appears extremely carbonated. Superb retention and lacing. Nose is a light crisp sweet apple fruit tone with hints of clove, citrus and belgian yeast. No hint of alcohol. The flavor is very aggressive with the light crisp fruit flavors, mild bitterness, clove, spice, and citrus character. No hint of alcohol. Finishes crisp and dry. Good carbonation, medium bodied. Overall, a nice Tripel. Crisp and aggressive yet complex and refined. Enjoyable.

330 ml bottle into chalice, bottled July 2010. Pours cloudy golden orange color with a huge 2-3 finger foamy off white head with fantastic retention that reduces to a thick cap that lasts. Some nice lacing clings to the glass, with plenty of carbonation streaming up retaining the head nicely. Aromas of big lemon, orange peel, pepper, apple, grape, apricot, banana, candi sugar, bready grain, and spicy yeast. Very nice and well balanced aromas with good complexity. Taste of big lemon, apple, grape, apricot, pepper, banana, clove, candi sugar, biscuit, tart grain, and yeast spices. Lingering notes of apricot, lemon, pepper, clove, biscuit, yeast spices, and tart grain on the finish for a while. Nice balance of flavor with nice complexity. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a nice creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming after the finish. Overall this is an excellent, complex, and well balanced Tripel. I would have this one again.

Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a medium orange amber with fine particulates floating in it. Massive fine to coarse head takes up half the glass with a careful pour. Good retention and leaves massive lacing. Aroma of sweet light fruit, citrus, cloves, Belgian yeast. Flavor is intense light fruit; stone fruit, apple, oranges. Finishes much dryer with the hops and cloves asserting a sharper flavor and a bit of a floral element. Quite a delicious start and pleasant flavor progression. Medium bodied. A quite enjoyable and well made tripel. I enjoyed this more and more as it opened up in the glass over time.

Served at 50 degrees in a Duvel tulip.

A: Pours golden blonde, nice head, excellent retention and nice yeast activation on the etching.

S: yeast, banana, mild funk

T: well balanced, finishes with a slight hotness and yeasty finishing note.

M: Drinks well, nice carbonation

O: Glad I had it, nice performance in a lot of categories. Worthy buy.

A: Pale orange body. Large, off-white head. Spotty lacing

S: Mild soft fruits -- apples and oranges. Nice spicy, Belgian yeast notes.

T: Like the nose, there is a nice, mild, restrained fruity complexion. Semi-sweet apples, a little orange pop in the finish. Black pepper, pale malt and assertive yeast notes. Complex and interesting.

M: Smooth and well-balanced with a nice effervescence. Spicy, crisp finish.

O: Another standout beer from De Dolle.

Poured from a 330ml bottle into my Allagash glass. It poured a murky, orange amber color with a foamy white head filling the top two inches of the glass. Nice head retention as I drank it.

The aroma has a nice balance of lemony citrus, sweet, bready malts and an earthy Belgian yeast spice. Very nice aroma for the style.

The taste shows a little more of a tart, crisp fruitiness to it with some notes of apple and grape coming out. The belgian yeast spice shows through more in the finish along with a little lemony citrus.

The mouthfeel is a little heavier then average with carbonation being above average. Overall it was a pretty solid beer of the style. It was pretty balanced, flavorful and relatively easy drinking for the style.

This is my third well rated beer of the Dolle Brouwers and the third one that I dislike. Are the Dolle Brouwers overrated and hyped brewers?

L: gold, clear, great thick top;
S: a very original smell, flowers, malt, hard to describe;
T: no no no...disappointing...hops in disharmony with the much too heavy alcohol; over the top try to make a really special beer
M: heavy alcohol with a stonedry finish with a lot of carbonation.
O: I certainly will not drink this one a second time. Strange beer.

PS: I also don't see any reason why this label costs 50% more than St. Bernardus, Guldenberg, Westmalle or other great beers/brewers.

A: Dark yellow/light orange/some copper. Big fluffy, sizzling white head hinting at crisp carbonation. Leaving some clumps of lacing down the glass. Poured gently to not disturb the sediment, yet there is very miniscule floaties.

S: Tart apples, apple peels, a bit sweet and phenolic. A bit of an almost vinegar like tartness with some spice, but it is all covered up nicely by very nice sweet overtones.

T: Citrusy, sweet and a bit peppery. Almost resembles a saison in flavor profile. The Belgian yeast profile takes over and brings the sweetness and typical banana like flavors. 2011 batch so its still pretty evident that its a high abv brew.

M: Clean, crisp mouthfeel with a bit of sizzle and alcohol burn on the back end. Citrusy and sweet, nice match up.

O: Easily one of the best tripels I have tried, and although it isn't my favorite style...it's very clear that this is a very respectable beer.

Pours medium orange with a huge towering head. Some lace, really good head retention.

Sweet fruit, yeast, toasted malt and a little funk. Odd macro smell coming off the foam -- not depth of a tripel, but real generic beer scent.

Back in business. Good fruit up front, some booze, but doesn't seem like 10%. Toasted malt reminds me a bit of brown bread, with sweetness and grain. This one dries out a bit, with some astringency leading to bitterness in the finish. I wouldn't call this smooth, but it has nice transitions to different flavors.

Fuller bodied with a little pucker as the palate clears.

Very decent. Not a top favorite, but one of the good ones.

I had this beer last night and paid US$12.50 for it at an insanely overpriced Belgian bar here in Hong Kong called Frites. It poured with a huge head and I had to let the head chill for a bit before I could finish pouring it into the La Chouffe tulip I drank it in.

Overall a good tripel but I will say that the alcohol was very prevalent. Alot of maltiness and a tad bit of hops were noted. The beer was very carbonated as far as its head but mouthfeel was a bit syrupy.

I didn't dislike this beer but It didn't make a huge impression either. I would certainly drink it again but I will never pay that price for it in the future. Also, for that kind of money it should have been served in the proper glass.

One of my all time favs. Served at a great temp with a grand, billowy, soft, foamy, frothy, fluffy, off white head that sits there for a while before burping and lots of clingy lace. Color is a clear amber with loads of bubble trails. Aroma is yeast on top, then malt, vineous. Flavor is like nose with lots of yeast bitterness followed by hop, just a little sweet, good carbonic tang, white wine, apples, pears, hint of funk. Body is champagne like, expansive, yet of substance and carbonation is out of sight. Finish is like flavor, without flaws and lingers pleasingly with a friendly alcohol warmth. Don't know of another tripel like it. Delightful beer from the Mad Brewers!

This beer poured out as a nice hazy golden color with a fluffy white head on top. The smell of the beer is spicy and has some sweet grainy aromas in there. The taste of the beer was pretty good. I felt like that this beer wasn't as good as it should be flavor-wise. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with a solid carbonation to it. Overall this beer was good but not that great in my opinion, I should probably revisit this one someday and see if my tastes have changed.

Serving: Bottle into a snifter.

A: Pours a cloudy golden color with over an inch of head. High carbonation. Looks good for a tripel. Head has remained pretty thick for at least two minutes now.

S: Spicy and yeasty, just what I would expect for a belgian pale.

T: Very spicy, with pepper and lemony notes. Yeast has made a definite impact on this one, with its esters. Alcohol is noticeable, like some other reviewers have noticed. Pretty complex for a Tripel.

M: Bubbly and bitey with the amount of carbonation here. Perfect for a belgian pale ale.

O: Not bad at all. Definitely a lot going on in this beer. I like it. Would buy again.

Appearance: Hazy amber colored. Minimal non-lacing, stark white head.

Smell: Lemony, estery. best part of this beer.

Taste: No enough sweetness or crispness for me. too much bitterness. Finishes roasted malty flavors and not esters. Complex but not in the style.

Mouthfeel: Heavy. Hot in the end. have to sip this one.

Overall: Average at best. There are better tripels out there.

A: Pours an amber-tinged gold with a rocky, billowing white head that laces deep into the glass.

S: Aromas of citrus, biscuits, caramel, and grass are present on the nose, but are undercut by a boozy alcohol aroma. Smells very heavy and slightly unbalanced.

T: Notes of lemon, grapefruit, kumquat, unripened pineapple, biscuits, caramel, herbs, and grass waste no time in making their presence known. The finish is intense and fiery with notes of herbs and citrus washed in alcohol.

M: Full bodied, but not particularly filling. Quite dry and spritzy. If the alcohol were toned down a bit, this tripel would be dangerously drinkable.

O: This is a solid tripel that is noticeably more bitter than most. Not the best effort from de Dolle, but still quite good.

Bottled July 2011.

Beer is an orange-hued caramel amber. Caramel in colour. A gentle pour results in a fairly large white head, very frothy and active. Starts to shrink quickly but a decent sized portion remains for a fair while.

Smell is strong, very nice and characteristically tripel. Creamy and full of light fruit with some spice. Banana, peach, apricot, some bready malt in the back. Quite sweet.

The fruit is there in the taste - banana the most prominent for me - and the bready malt flavours are more prominent. Alcohol is quite noticeable, a little bit too much. Nice spicy flavours, though I cannot pick out particular spices. Fairly complex and quite good, but the alcohol gets in the way a bit.

Full bodied, but not heavy. Moderate to high carbonation. Alcohol heat affects the feel somewhat.

Overall. a very nice tripel but not one of the best. If the alcohol was toned down just a bit this could be fantastic.

Poured into a tulip. The color is orangey amber. There is a giant creamy head that inhibits pouring.

The aroma has banana and lots of clove and other spices. There is some citrus candy aroma as well.

The taste is dominated by yeast. Grape skin, banana, and pineapple are the fruit flavors. There is a hefty dose of spice with some sweet honey.

The body is medium and the carbonation on the heavier side with lively bubbles.

This is one of my favorite tripels.

Source/Serving: 11.2 oz bottle, about 1 year old.

S: Brightly spiced peaches and dried apricots, honey, herbal/minty hops. All intense but balanced. Nice and juicy fruit character, bright spices and hops. Lively. Hints at apples, sandalwood, spicy alcohol, arugula, pear. As it warms alcohol borders on hot.

T: Apple-mint wine. Ripe fruits up front with lots of apple, pear, apricot, and a herbal hop edge. Very little residual sweetness though and moderate spice levels. Middle is driven by spicy alcohol which has that alcohol quality that whisky does, its not smooth but its still enjoyable. Not hot, more rough. But, there is so much else going on it works. Lots of hop flavor, but only a touch bitter with medium spices that are very complex with continued apricot/apple fruitiness. Finish dries out like champagne with a burst of fresh herbs and interesting spiciness and lingers with a touch of a alcohol burn and apricot/apple. Body is much higher than expected for a tripel and feels remarkably heavy even though there is prickly carbonation.

Notes: Intense and balanced if not a little but pleasantly abrasive.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass. Bottle is dated May 2011.

A very large head is formed off the pour, with a very tight and off yellow foamy consistency. Body is a dull brown and yellow with a good rising spire of carbonation coming from the middle. The head just wont quit.

Nose is varied. Mild green apple cider and white wine. Mixing in bread yeast and some candi like sugars. Vinous sensing smells wonderful. A hot spicy sensation too but not of alcohol.

Hot green apple skin and giant punches of yeast in the palate. Finish gives almost a sense of bitter hop, but then brings a light caramel even some brown sugar. Sugar mix gives to a Belgian sens of IPA. Texture is solid although I was hoping for some more body creamy sense.

Overall very unique, for a tripel really enjoyable. Wonderful drink.

A- Opaque apple cider-like appearance. Beautiful golden hue. Head was insane and solid. Didn't spill one drop over my Westvleteren chalice. Head disappeared after 3 minutes.

S- thought I smelled gingerbread upon pouring but that disappeared quickly. Poured it straight from the fridge and it didn't have have strong bouquet. Nice and gentle spice scent. Subtle apple and pear blended with a crisp yeast smell.As it warmed up, a slight sugary smell was apparent.

T- The aftertaste's what I noticed first. Its slightly bitter and it sits on the sides of my tongue. I don't notice the oversweetness that others talk about; instead, its the alcohol that I can taste. Its not in-your-face offensive, but its definitely there. There's fruit - more plum or fig, I would say - that hits the back of my palate. Interesting mix: bitterness that rests on the front, darker, muddier fruit that sit in the back of my mouth. Cloves and greener fruit started to appear as it mellowed and warmed up.

M- Alcohol's there. Carbonation is most definitely there. Drinking this slowly and wondering if its best suited to be opened and to let it breathe for 30 minutes.

O- I wasn't sure what to expect. This is definitely more bitter than I expected it to be. I don't love it like I love some of De Dolle's other offerings (*cough cough* Reserva) but I think it will grow on me. I'd definitely suggest keeping this at cellar temp, not fridge temp, and letting it mellow before drinking.

A- Hazy light orange with visible sediment on the bottom of the glass after the second and last pouring. Quite dense 1 and a half finger head that has very good retention and leaves a lot of lacing

S- Loads of fruit: rich and slightly spicy (esters?) aroma of orange, lemon, maybe apple, among a nice musty/earthy feel from the yeast that prevents from excessive sweetness. Some sugary undernotes can also be noticed

T- Strong caramel malts with an assertive sugary sweetness to them (loads of sugar in this beer, i can tell you for sure). Fruity on both tongue and palate (orange, raisin, lemon) along with some spicy alcoholic notes. Suprisingly dry on the back of the palate with an earthy/musty feel and a hint of hop bitterness that remains in the aftertaste. A rich range of flavours for sure, a bit messy though

M- Strong, dense body with an assertive alcoholic bite. Strongly carbonated as well: feels nicely crisp on the tongue but really too prickly on the palate

O- I didn't expect this beer to be extremily drinkable. De Dolle makes some very interesting and peculiar ales that have strong and sometimes suprising flavours. I knew I had to expect a palate challenging beer. This one though felt really over the top: too prickly on the palate and overall quite messy. felt a little more balanced as it warmed

Head very much like arabier. Very very careful pour, and i still couldn't get it all in one pour. Massive head, sea foamy. Really beautiful color, deep hazel orange. Rising carbonation can only be seen right at the top half inch. a bit of sediment at the bottom.

Dried apricot blended with phenols in the nose. Very rich. Fairly sweet but the alcohol is well masked in this sweetness. Pretty intense. Complex. Perhaps a bit too sweet, but I bet that's covering up other things, and for 10%, it makes sense. A different kind of tripel. Spicy. More like a christmas beer. Not readily identifiable as a tripel. It certainly has more typical features of a dubbel and quadrupel than a tripel.

Also fairly heavy. very mild sparkling in the mouth.

It's quite good, but I can't say I love it. It's a bit too heavy and sweet, but I can see why many people love this one.
