11.2 oz bottle from Abe's in Bethlehem for $4 or so. I've wanted to try this one for a while and it was the first time I saw it at Abe's so i grabbed on up. Poured into a tulip glass.
I let this beer warm a bit before opening, perhaps a bit too much because as soon as I tried to take the bottle cap off beer came shooting out from under the lid. It made a little mess but I did manage to get most of it in the glass. The beer was a cloudy golden amber color, a bit darker than i expected, big white head that recedes quickly and left no lacing. Disappointment.
Smell was very belgian, somewhat aggresive sweetness from the yeast, partially hidden booze, not funky but definately fruity.
Taste was sweet, somewhat heavy bite from the carbonation that is left, more booze than i appreciate though this is understandable at 10%.
Mouthfeel is thin, maybe a bit watery but at least it isn't heavy.
Drinkability is limited by the prominence of the alcohol and the disheartening sight of a glass of beer with absolutely no head and no lacing. It just looked dead in the glass. From other reviews of this it is clear that a lot of people have enjoyed this beer and will continue to enjoy it, but it was certainly a disappointment for me.

Bottle poured into straight glass...
APPEARANCE: Very promising... an amber champagne color, with a monstrous head...
SMELL: Classic tripel - dry apples and spice, this one not extremely complex, but straightforward.
TASTE: Candy apples, very appealing, but whoa - the alcohol flavor is intense... tripel is one of my favorite styles, but honestly, by the time I was halfway through this one, I was ready for it to be gone because of the strong alcohol flavors...
MOUTHFEEL: Great - light and bubbly.
DRINKABILITY: Couldn't handle the alcohol flavor. I love big beers, but this one doesn't hide the alcohol at all...

Appearance: Hazy amber colored. Minimal non-lacing, stark white head.
Smell: Lemony, estery. best part of this beer.
Taste: No enough sweetness or crispness for me. too much bitterness. Finishes roasted malty flavors and not esters. Complex but not in the style.
Mouthfeel: Heavy. Hot in the end. have to sip this one.
Overall: Average at best. There are better tripels out there.

well, there is a ton of yeast floating around in here. it must be, because i'm pretty sure i cleaned the glass very well. the head got huge with an unaggressive pour. a cloudy golden color, with a white thick head. the beer's appearance gives off the impression that its still alive. wow i just poured the rest into the glass, these are chunks of yeast in there. i'm not sure if i'm gonna like that. hopefully i dont feel any grittiness, because that'll suck.
when i put my nose to it, i get the aroma of a champagne or wine. grapes and apple, some alcohol aroma.
hmm, this is an age-able beer, and the place i bought it from definitely handles their beer correctly. maybe i just don't like it. the amount of visible yeast is way too much. and i can't really describe the taste too well. sweet and bitter. the beer went from initially being a clear golden color, to a color that is completely cloudy, i can no longer see through it.
considering this beer has a great reputation, and i paid about $5.50 for it, i'm disappointed. i'm gonna take the next 5 minutes considering making it my first drain pour. maybe one day i'll revisit this brew and have a better experience.

This is huge head, I am always amazed at how they can do this!
The bubbles are so tightly packed it looks like whipped cream. Cloudy with a color like toffee.
The aroma is spicy mostly like cloves, sweet and yeasty also.
Overpowering phenols and clove, whoa! Too much of a plantain flavor.
Plenty of mouthfeel and the carbonation fills my mouth.
Over the top on all counts and not very balanced in my opinion, nonetheless thanks to Biglove for the opportunity.

11.2oz bottle on the Winking Lizard Beer Tour. Poured into a nice small glass, I poured in 3/4's and then topped off the last bit with the yeast.
Looks great, cloudy and golden. White head that sticks and doesn't flinch for a second during the whole affair.
Sweet candied sugar and Belgian yeast in the nose. Some impressions of orange and pear and some noticeable alcohol.
Falls completely apart in my mouth. It starts nice enough with some light sweet malt and yeasty flavors. Then the alcohol ruins everything. This is a freaking mess. An unbalance hot bomb. A hot mess, very disappointed in how the alcohol takes over.
Mouthfeel is OK, decent lively carb and significant body.
Drinkability is sub-par. This was just too freaking hot. Maybe, just maybe, I'd try a bottle that's at least 3-4 years old. But this beer just doesn't cut it for me, and I love a good tripel.

Serving Type: Standard Bottle
Appearance: Cloudy Orange colour w/ a light white head the lingers around the edges.
Smell: Strong on fruit. Pineapple, peach, lemon...touch of spice. Very nice
Taste: Apricots, pineapple, ends w/ a dry like taste that's hoppy.
Mouthfeel: A bit over the top carbonation leaves this medium drink a little lacking
Drinkability: Not sure....the sweetness in it throws me off. I enjoy juice, I really do....not sure how I like it in my beer though
Edit: Upon further drinking the beer....I'm finding myself enjoying the drink a bit more. The taste still not be my cup of tea, but it is still drinkable.

11.2 oz. bottle.
Appearance: This beer poured a golden orange that became hazy after some of the yeast sediment was added. The white head was coarse and fizzy and rose up easily to well over two fingers. It disappeared quickly and settled into a thin layer of bubbles on top of the brew. There was some light lacing.
Smell: Spicy alcohol and sharp, white grapes made up the bulk of the aroma. Light roasted malt lay underneath with a little bit of old, musty wood. After a shot of the yeast was added, the aroma became unpleasantly sour.
Mouthfeel: Light- to medium-bodied and slightly coating. Carbonation was strong but not harsh.
Taste: Sour yeast and vinous white grapes came through upfront. The finish was all strong, yet spicy alcohol, combined with a dry astingency that was in no way enjoyable. There was some old wood and sweet, light fruits underneath all of this, but they were mild and didn't detract from the other unpleasant flavors.
Harsh and to be avoided in the future.

Sour funky, hops, and somewhat sweet. It smells like a wine or something which is a nice way of saying this isn't pleasant.
Golden honey straw colored. This is a touch on the darker side than most of this style but we are only talking a hue or so. Crazy carbonation, and long lasting 2 finger head.
Alcohol is pretty dominate in this. A lot of hops. A lot of Belgium yeast. The malt is clean and sweet.
Very dry and crazy carbonated. It also doesn't hide the 10% at all. The beer would be drinkable (very) without the alcohol kick. The mouth is too carbonated but this isn't bad there.
I really don't what else to say. It's somewhat sour, bitter, and has enough malt to somewhat tame this. It isn't bad. It isn't good. I have to say I've had better Triplels and I am not a huge fan of them to start with.

Got this at Dranken Geers in Gent.
From a bottle into a tulip.
APPEARANCE: A very careful two part pour still produces a huge four finger, fluffy white, relentless head. Golden yellow in color and lots of carbonation evident. Head eventually fades to a thick foam cap that remains the whole way, leaving lots of chunky lacing. Looks decent, but the head is just out of control.
SMELL: A cross between a triple and a strong pale ale. Pale and toasted malts, green fruits, apples and pears, as well as lots of spicy notes. Pretty interesting.
TASTE: Just too hot. Some sweet and pale malts up front, but that's soon washed away by an onslaught of spicy booze. A slightly bitter aftertaste is mild and gone, but the spicy booze dominates the finish on this one. Lots of alcohol presence in this one; just too hot.
PALATE: Thin and airy. Out-of-control carbonation dominates. When the airy carbonation is combined with the overwhelming alcohol presence, the brew burns badly on the way down, scraping your throat the whole way. Not enjoyable. Give you the burps as well.
OVERALL: Not impressed. Far too carbonated, alcoholic, and completely out of control. The bad alcohol burn and thin, airy body made this one a total chore to drink. The brew calmed down a little after about an hour in my glass, but there are too many better, smoother triples out there to worry about this one again. Pass.
