Stumbled into this place this afternoon after seeing it posted here on BA. Figured Barrington is long overdue to land on the craft beer scene map and went in with high expectations. Came out rather disappointed. Seems like a nice place on the outside, can see stacks and stacks of wines and spirits from the outside, but unfortunately beer does not share the same courtesy. Beer is relegated to the back corner which is nice in a way in that it is out of the way of direct sunlight but I don't believe this was done more for profit margin reason than for any beer preservation reasons. Most of the beer is standard BMC, they are stacked up in the middle of the beer aisle, which again is really more of a corner. Some warm six packs and a few scattered singles that make up a portion of most Binny's or other reputable beer retailers. Rouge, Bells, Dogfish, a nearly full line up from Flying Dog, all three from Chimay and a couple of Three Floyds. To be honest you could find most of this at most large grocery store chains these days. If you are passing though Barrington or a out there for a cookout and need a few nice selections then I suppose this is the place for you, but I would drive the extra few miles North and hit up the Lake Zurich Binny's for a larger, quicker moving beers as well.

I will come here every once in awhile during the spring/summer to pick up a sixer of something hoppy for my softball games (park across the street). Their craft selection is not large but has a little more than your average hole in the wall liquor store. They usually have a lot of Founders, Stone, Lagunitas, Dogfish Head, and some of the locals such as Wild Onion. They also carry some 3 Floyds but they gouge the prices on those. One time I wanted to purchase a sixer of Gumballhead and the dude behind the counter was trying to charge me almost $18 for it... pretty ridiculous. Some of their other stuff can be a little pricier than other places as well. Their sign in the window says that they do not charge Cook County tax but it seems like they slip some sort of up charge tax code in their system for certain items anyways. Also, be sure to check bottle dates if possible when visiting this place. I have seen a lot of expired beers on their shelves, which means they rarely rotate stock. No one likes a skunky, expired beer. As far as service goes, the staff is not very helpful. Seems to be family run. None of the staff is very knowledgeable with beer. Nobody comes to you asking if you need help with anything. Good thing I know what I am looking for whenever I go in here. The staff behind the counter likes to chat on personal phone calls while you are being check out. Would not recommend this place to beer enthusiasts, but is fine if you are looking for something common and just happen to be in the area.

Went here once. The beer is in a little nook on the side. Mostly macros in the cooler, most of the stuff seems older. The selection isn't that great, the FFF I had was actually fresh but some other stuff was clearly old. It is just one guy at the counter and he didn't seem to know anything about the beer. The prices weren't anything bad or good, just kind of average to higher. Overall I would say skip this place, there are no hidden gems hiding in it, just dusty shelves of beer. I haven't tried the other liquor store in Barrington but it must be better.

A hollow husk of a liquor store, kept alive with vice and indiscretion, dumpy and dingy on the inside, faded posters for Gin outside. Large "No Cook County Tax" sign pasted on the window. Dim florescent lighting and wood paneling interior. Beer is completely hidden, relegated to a corner off on the right hand side towards the back.
Some quality stuff here though, FFF Dreadnaught, Munsterfest, and Arctic Panzer... Breakfast Stout, Daisy Cutter, Old Rasputin, Lagunitas Lil' Sumpin Sumpin, Sam Smith. Mostly staples with a few seasonals. A place to check dates for freshness, though quality beers to be had here. Not very organized, and prices aren't posted for everything.
Counter service was friendly, though not really beer knowledgeable. No one on the floor. They did say if a beer comes out this week, they get it next week, for what it's worth. Or most likely not at all...

Was in the area comparing prices for an upcoming trade and figured I'd finally get around to stopping in here. The beer is indeed relegated to a large alcove-like area in the back and to the right, making sure it's a second thought compared to the wine and liquor that comprises the majority of the wares here. Not a very big selection, mostly BMC and a smattering of random sixers, most of which lack posted prices (man, I hate that!). Nothing real major to be found, though some decently solid finds, like Three Floyds stuff. The only problem is that most things seem quite out of date (can't tell on the FFF offerings...), and everything has a very stale quality about it. I didn't even see an employee while I was here, not even behind the register, so I couldn't have asked a question if I wanted to. The random prices I could find seemed similar to those found elsewhere in the area. Overall, I can't see myself coming back here unless I am desperately needing a FFF fix or something, and everywhere else is sold out. Unless you're on foot and live nearby, it'd be much more sensible to head down the street to Vintage or make the short trek out to Binny's or Dobby's or something.
