This brew poured a copper color and left a ½ a fingers worth of a tan head that left some lacing. The aroma is one that is slightly bready with hints of toffee. The taste is slightly tart and has an earthy nuttiness to it that lingers on the palate. While not overwhelming the malt gives this Bock Beer a nice medium mouth feel.

Poured into a New Glarus glass on 12/4/12
Fairly clear looking beer; sort of a dark honey / chestnut brown hue. The bubbles rises en masse and hit the two finger mark. Thin, lasting retention and a pretty good web of lace.
Rather grainy. Buttered biscuit and caramel account for most of the aroma. Bread notions run deeper while a hint of grass wafts about. Hefty aroma for a bock; smells similar to a dopplebock.
The flavor is equally robust. Bread and toasted grains are at the center of each sip. I like that hops are more assertive, providing a grass/floral/herbal blend that has a good pronouncement without going over the top.
In line with everything else, this has a plump medium-full body that is wont to linger. Carbonation is kept right in check as well; moderate with just enough movement for the feel of the beer. The finish has a bit of mustiness to it.
Mendecino Bock is surprisingly dopplebock-y. Nothing wrong with that. Picked up a leftover bottle on a whim; I'll have to keep an eye out for it next year.

Like much of what Mendocino does, this bock is fairly middling and unexciting. To say it’s one of their better beers is damning it with faint praise, I’m afraid. Decent clarity on an amber colored body, good sized cap of white foam, average retention and lace. Aroma of bready malt and some caramel sweetness. Light floral hops underneath.
Taste follows the nose; fair toasted bread malt character; lightly sweet caramel; noble-style hop flavor with aspects of grass and floral notes, although the hops are pretty deeply buried. Low bitterness, mildly lingering in the aftertaste. Semi-dry finish doesn’t clean up as nicely as it could. Medium-light bodied with fairly crisp carbonation that brings a little bit of refreshment to the beer. All in all it’s not bad but it’s very middle of the road, somewhat bland, and lacks the substantial maltiness of the better examples of this style. You could do worse with Mendocino and I have.

A: The beer is hazy amber in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin beige head that quickly dissipated, leaving some lacing on the surface and a thin ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: There are moderately strong aromas of brown sugar, caramel, spices and toffee in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and has some initial sweetness that is followed by bitterness and spiciness towards the finish.
M: It feels a bit more than medium-bodied and slightly sticky on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink compared to others in the style as it isn’t as full-bodied. The flavors in the taste aren’t as complex as the aromas.

Appearance - Pours a beautiful, clear deep honey with a fat, frothy 2 finger head. The retention is good, but the resulting lace is spotty.
Smell - Potent aromas of grass and lemon, along with a sweet caramel presence which rests beneath this.
Taste - Excessively sweet. Big, sugary caramel and toffee upfront with subtle hints of warm bread, and a spicy grass bitter hop. Faint notes of lemon as the aftertaste kicks in.
Mouthfeel - Medium body, with a bit of stickiness. Carbonation is a tad on the low side.
Overall - Solid offering from Mendocino, but it's just too sugary sweet for my palate.

Color is a amber/copper and head was medium when poured out of the bottle.
Odor is good overall. Slightly sweet like toffee or caramel.
Taste was sweet as well. Toffee notes present as well as some malty or breadyness. Some floral and pine as well. Overall smooth and relatively pleasant taste. Mouth feel is good. Light carbonation and easy drinking. Overall not the best beer from this brewery, but a pretty good spring beer.

The body of this beer is a true amber color. The head stands 1/2 inch after the pour and is cream in color. Retention isn't spectacular, recedes to a film with rocky patches of bubbles. Aroma is of floral hops, light sweet malt, maybe a touch of citrus, honey. Taste comes in smooth and creamy. The slightly thik body rolls across the to hue without much complexity. A little bit of grassy hops. I really enjoy a good maibock, but this Was pretty mediocre. I don't think I'll buy it again.

Appearance: A medium copper-like caramel color. About a 1 finger foam head. Decent but not great foam retention. A significant amount of carbonation bubbles.
Smell: Malty, dark fruits, slightly metallic alcohol.
Taste: Sweet, malty, a touch of hops. A slight bitterness to compliment the sweetness.
Mouthfeel: Slick, light mouth feel with a substantial carbonation tingle. Finishes dry.
Overall: This is a good beer worthy of the money spent.
