Wachusett's Milk Stout has a dark brown body and a small, brown head that leaves some decent lacing behind.

The aroma is sweet with chocolate and a little bit of creamy lacto.

Sweet malts lead things off, with bits of coffee and caramel. Chocolate plays a big role in this one, and it pairs very nicely with a hint of creamy tartness from lacto. The beer is sweet and smooth, leaving me with a positive impression.

This one has just enough body and fairly mild carbonation.

I found this milk stout tucked away in the bottom of my buddy's fridge on a night he mandated we clean out his alcohol. I obliged his request, and this one was a pleasant surprise.

Poured from a bomber from Glen Beverage Co. in Glen, NH into a Duvel tulip. Served at about 45 degrees.

Appearance: Dark, cola color with a medium tan head. A "spiderweb" lingers after every sip.

Smell: Dark chocolate with a very subtle hint of coffee. Some brown sugar lingers in the back.

Taste: Very roasty for a milk stout. A fairly strong chocolate and molasses flavor with a bitter coffee malt backbone. The alcohol is almost non-existent. Did I mention roasty?

Mouthfeel: Fairly smooth with a somewhat strong carbonation. Feels slightly heavier than expected when going down.

Overall this a great representation of a milk/sweet stout. The carbonation is a little stronger than I would like for the style, but I love the roasted chocolate and bitter malt flavor. A decent price and availability makes this beer a winner in my book.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #61 (Feb 2012):

LOOK: Rich, dark, opaque brown, beige lacing

SMELL: Bready, roasty, coffee

TASTE: Silky, smooth, sweet, malty, molasses, milky, semi-roasty and astringent, touch of toffee, coffee, chocolate, cake

Milk Stouts are fairly hard to come by, and this one hits the mark. Wachusett also touts it as: "The deliciously darkest beer we've ever made is one of the easiest drinkers we've ever brewed." And we’d have to agree. Intensely dark, delicious and drinkable. Buy and try this one.

A - stoutly black with a full finger of gold flecked tan head

S - a rich welcome chocolate aroma that I was hoping for hits first, supported by a lactic sweetness. Both of these elements rest atop of a firm malty backbone, at the very back is a slight mocha/coffee hint

T - a mellow sublte chocolate/mocha sweetness engulfs as you sip, and keeps it up. No quick fade, no huge flavor spike. A simple solid great combination of flavors that holds steady and is fully enjoyable throughout the taste.

M&D&O - Smooth and silky like a milk stout should be. Great flavor layering, great sustainability in flavor. A well crafted brew.

Poured from bottle into pint glass. Pours a deep black color with tan head. Smells of sugary roasted malts. taste is sweet milkey malts, slight coffee, and latte like. Its super smooth and easy, but at less than 6% id hope so. Either way, its a good tasting stout and a very good tasting milk stout; which are usually too sweet for me.

A- Black with a slight red hugh. It has a 1 fingers worth of a frothy head. Some lacing from the head. Not too out of the norm for a stout.

S- Roasted coffee and milk chocolate. Sweet. Smells like dessert!

T- Roasted coffee and malty! It has a milky chocolate quality to it! It is somewhat bitter, but the bitterness is not overpowering at all. It gives the beer a slight bite. Some carbination can be felt buzzing on your tongue.

M- I can say it's an incredibly smooth beer. It is a medium, almost full bodied beer. It does a good job of coating the back of the throat. It doesn't have a gigantic amount of drinkability, but that just means you have more time to savor this great brew!

Overall this beer is awesome. Smells like chocolate and roasted coffee, tastes like semisweet chocolate with a bitter roasted coffee flavor that hits your taste buds all the way to the back of your throat. I'd drink this anytime I'm in the mood for some more fullbodied! GREAT WITH THE WACHUSETT BLUEBERRY AS A BLACK AND BLUEBERRY!

Pours with a less than a finger sized head, very light tan, and minimal lacing. The beer is a deep dark brown, not quite black.

Sweet roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate and coffee, pleasant hot chocolate powder (I usually refer to it as cocoa powder), chocolate milk, heavy cream, light sugary sweetness, whoppers, and hints of cola and dark fruits.

Taste is similar to the aroma with sugary sweet lactose predominance, bittersweet chocolate, coffee, light roasted malts cocoa powder, heavy cream, chocolate milk.

The mouthfeel is light and smooth. Light carbonation, light-creamy consistency, light-medium smooth body, and a slightly lingering finish that consists of cream, bittersweet chocolate, coffee, and lactose sugar.

Oveall not a bad milk stout at all. One I would drink again given the opportunity, since this is quite drinkable.

22 oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a deep clear amber in the glass with 2 fingers of light mocha head. This maintains a rich creamy finger, which rings the sides of the glass with some sticky swathes of lace. The aroma smells of coffee and cream, with roast and lactose taking center stage and then melding nicely with backing notes of chocolate fudge and green citrus. This has a nice full flavored feel to it in the nose.

The taste is similar, with chocolate, milky sugars, green bitter citrus, and roasted coffee flavors all working very nicely here together. This really has a solid dessert beer quality to it. The finish is roasted feeling on the finish with some leftover light earthy bitterness that hangs in there. The mouthfeel is medium to fuller bodied, with some crispness to the carbonation on top and then more of a soft creaminess underneath which carries those flavors well.

I thought that this was a surprisingly well done Milk Stout, with some well balanced flavors (really liked the coffee flavor) and a pretty smooth drinkability to it. This is one of the better ones that I’ve had recently.
