I needed to pick up a 6 pack and I remembered buying this for a friend while in MA on a beer run. says pale ale on the bottle, strong ale here. What I found was a nice drinking, mildy hoppy bready malty brew which was neither an APA, nor a strong ale but just stronger than sessionable.

Smells crisp and malty, with large toasted grain and brown sugar aromas, as well as a hint of hops.
On the tongue, the malt reigns large and immediate, coming on in waves of toasted grains that are heavily reminiscent of Grape Nuts cereal, with a distinct thread of pine, as well as caramels. Light hints of fruit esters accompany these malts, including apple and apricot notes. The hops are present from the beginning, but come through more strongly midstream as the malts fade off, and the ale finishes with a nice bitter grapefruit aftertaste. Carbonation seems to be slightly heavy, providing a nice fizz.
Overall, the flavors in this ale mingle well together, and while they are on the medium to medium-light side, enough attention has been paid to balance to make this an easily-drinkable, good quality ale. Perfect summer or bar fare, as well as being a far higher-grade alternative to Budweisers.

Thanks to stearns16 for throwing this in a trade.
A - Poured a light copper color with a thin white head that leaves spotty lacing behind
S - Is of bready malt with some funky hops
T - Starts off malty then the hops bitter things up but the overall taste isn't that good
M - This beer has a medium body with medium carbonation to it
O - While this isn't a complete drain pour the flavor profile just doesn't make it enjoyable glad I had the chance to give it a try but ones enough

One of my buddies had a few of the old Green Monstas lying in the fridge so I decided to get the new IPA version of the beer and compare. Have had this before and did not like it much but hey, just trying to make it interesting.
A-Pale orange in color. A bit murky too. Head rises then lazily falls. Decent lacing.
S-Malty sweetness with some lingering hoppy notes. Leans more toward the malty side than the hoppy side. Not dynamic by any means.
T-Very mild hop flavor is overshadowed by the malts. A bit too sweet, and the hops that are detectable are pretty lame here. Not too much to describe.
M-Medium body. Kind of a slick icky feel that I am not too fond of (probably because I don't care for the taste much).
O/D-Glad the IPA version killed and replaced this one and I didn't love the IPA much. Not my style. Just nothing I would ever drink again. The new Green Monsta wins.

Bottle poured into pint glass. Best by: june 2011
A- Pours a mostly golden color with some orange hue. Light head with large carbonation bubbles. No lacing.
S- A light cereal grain aroma. Some very faint citrus and grassy hops. Very light all around.
T- Light overall. Sweet bready malt with some caramel tone. A faint hop bitterness. No real direction. Finish and after taste is a somewhat unpleasant bitter grass taste.
M- Light, pings, mildly drying. The finish that lingers is poor.
D/O- For a beer of 6.4% I would expect much more. everything was light and didn't meld well. This is gonna meet the sink.

Pours a mild amber color with a two-finger head into my glass.
Grassy hops followed by bready malt. Very hop forward.
Taste is very interesting with a strong taste of bread dough followed by lightly grassy hops.
Like chewing on a piece of bread. Flavorful. Easy to enjoy.
Love this pale ale. Worthy of the name too!

Pours nicely, light golden with a small head that dissipates quickly, and not much on the carbonation side.
Smell is slightly hoppy with some carmel overtones
Taste is like a party of deliciousness. Nice floral start that quickly turns hoppy to a slightly carmel finish. Excellent taste overall.
This is a very easy beer to drink, and an above average APA, maybe a little on the sweet side but you'll set down your glass, go to pick it back up and wonder who drank you beer kind of good.

This beer always seems to excite me with the name, but it always definitively disappoints me with the first taste. I hope more from a New England brewer of this scale, but again it disappoints.
It's taken a few times to learn my lesson, but I will not sample again from my hometown local brew house.

A: Pours out a very light orange tone with hints of yellow. One finger off white head rises moderately quickly and then recedes leaving patchy traces.
S: Light aromas of crackers and wheat bread with just a touch of aromatic hops mixed in there.
T: Moderate malts mix with moderate hops. Slices of bread, cereal, touches of pine, but just at the edge.
M: Light to medium bodied, quenching, finishing a bit dry.
D: I really wanted this beer to be hit out of the park right on to Landsdowne, instead it bounces off the wall and the runner is out trying to make it to second. It's a nice little pale ale, but nothing spectacular. Not bad for its kitsch value to drink with a few friends.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
Pours a clear copper, with 2 fingers of thick eggshell-white head. This retains with a think creaminess that flares up nicely and throws a robust cascade of sticky lacing up on the sides of the glass. Nice look. The aroma is grassy, herbal, and citric smelling, with some tropical fruits giving off sugars that mesh well wit the bready flavors of the malt.
The taste is mostly bitter with grapefruit and a touch of pine, which is quickly tempered by those same softer sugary fruit notes from the nose and the toasted sweetness of the malts. The finish is dry and bitter, with lingering notes of citrus peel. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and while initially sharp on the tongue; this becomes more bubbly and creamy feeling as the liquid hits the back of the palate.
This was just OK, with hops and malt being in harmony for the most part but this ultimately just didn't leave much of an impression on me. I will say that the 6% body does flow pretty nicely for the size and this did drink rather decently with my dinner. I just don't see myself needing another one though.
