The beer gives a fizzing sound when poured. The colour is deep red wit a tint of brown, the liquid is almost clear. The finger thick airy head is beige. It sinks slowly leaving no lacing.
The smell is malty and roasted. Tart notes of raspberries, some citric bitterness and a touch of alcohol.
The taste is malty and sweet with roasted nutty notes. Hints of dark rye bread. Some light bitter notes with some tart lemon-hints. The aftertaste brings some raw alcohol, sweet bread, dried raspberries and fresh malt. It is quite short, leaving some sweet alcohol in the finish.
The carbonation is medium strong. The short lasting bubbles are small and fresh. The liquid is a bit sticky.
The tart notes give an unusual twist to this Scottish ale.
