On Tap
Churchill's Pub & Grille
San Marcos, CA
Jet black, shiny, with a thin light brown cap. Sheets of lacing down the glass. Thick and menacing.
Incredible aroma. Freshly ground, high quality coffee beans lead the way, especially at the colder tap temperatures. After the warming, the aroma evolves quite nicely, with vanilla and mild chocolate peeking out from behind the bold coffee expression.
The flavor is divine. Most often, the freshly ground coffee bean character found in the aroma isn't translated particularly well to the flavor, but here it succeeds admirably. Bold, freshly ground, earthy, and bitter coffee, mild vanilla, chocolate, and roast combine incredibly well. No trace of the known high ABV.
Medium to full body with low-moderate carbonation.
Delightful. Probably my favorite beer from the Churchill's Victory at Sea dinner.

On tap at Churchill’s.
A blast of nutty and earthy coffee blending with a smooth roastiness and ample chocolate. Exceptional coffee aroma. The flavor exhibits more earthy and nutty coffee with a touch brown sugar sweetness. Chocolate blends with a little molasses and a lower moderate bitterness. Roasted grains are soft and pervasive. Ridiculously good.

On tap for Churchill's Renaissance 2013 at Churchill's Pub & Grille in San Marcos, CA.
Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, sweetened coffee, and vanilla. Taste is much the same with a huge coffee flavor on the finish. There is a medium amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with some fantastic coffee aromas and flavors that add to the already tasty base beer.
