A - Pours clear and golden, very small head and not much lace.
S - Roasted chile is the first thing that hits you. Very pleasant. Malt follows. Hard to detect the hops right now.
T - Chiles hit you first and last. Nice light malt core at center.
M - Light to medium body, good balance considering messing with the chiles, carbonation a bit lighter than I would have expected. Nice small bite in back of throat that lingers.
D - I love hot chiles and I really like this beer. A little more carbonation and I would have liked it even more.

On tap at the Better Weather Fest at Golden Road Brewing in Los Angeles, CA.
Pours a clear orange with a foamy tan head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, fruits, and pepper aromas. Taste is much the same with a very mild pepper heat on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with some nice pepper aromas and flavors.

I really like this one. Way better than any pepper Sculpin they put out.
It really packs a punch though - this is one of the spicier one's from BP. Light, refreshing and highly drinkable, in a burn your mouth kinda way.
Make this more often! I'd recommend this one.

On-tap at O'Brien's, San Diego.
Roasted Serrano Yellow Tail Pale Ale - presumably the same thing (though certainly a new batch).
Pours a light copper/amber color with a light white head. Nice aroma of chiles and hops. The flavor is mild at first (somewhat hoppy), but the chilies rush in and are quite strong at the aftertaste and into the finish. Very sharp flavor overall. Light-bodied, with mild carbonation. Pretty smooth too.
I believe that I prefer this to the Habanero Sculpin. The Yellow Tail isn't so bold on its own, so the chiles don't have to compete as much. The intricacies of the roasted serrano flavor are a bit more defined too. This is perhaps even a tad spicier than the Sculpin! Love it!

On-tap at Linda Vista/Home Brew Mart
A: The pour is a clear golden color with a thin white head.
S: As with the Habanero Piper Down, there is a very green, fresh pepper aroma with a nice spice and some earthy notes. In addition to the chile pepper, there is a bit of black pepper and a faint hop and malt note in the background.
T: Not surprisingly, this is very heavy on the Serrano pepper up front with a nice spicy bite and a light sweetness of pale malts on the back end. There is (strangely) a hint of yeast and some very light hop notes.
M: This beer is fairly light on body with a medium carbonation.
O: Significantly better than the Habanero Piper Down, though I think the four ounces were enough for me.

On tap at Home Brew Mart. Pale ale infused with roasted Serrano peppers.
A: Very light in color. A straw yellow with nice transparency and a white foamy head.
S: Apple with earth and mineral accompanying wheat and a pleasant Serrano presence. I can already feel the heat.
T: Prominent Serrano flavor with just a little spiciness. A little apple and wheat with a low level of bitterness. The heat increases in the finish, but it's still palatable and complimentary.
M: Upper light body with good carbonation.
Overall: Unlike the Habanero Piper Down I just tried, the Serrano peppers provide some heat without obliterating the other flavors. This was tasty.

On tap at Brewer's Mart, San Diego, CA on 6/30/11.
A - Clear golden/light amber liquid with a sparse off-white head that disappeared, leaving virtually no lacing behind.
S - Moderate peppery character, oily and vegetal with light earthy hops and a hint of caramel malt. Sweet and spicy overall.
T - Green and earthy with an abundance of pepper oil and some sweet malt to keep things from getting too spicy. Finishes with a hint of bready malt and plenty of pepper burn on the back of the tongue, the latter of which replaced any real hop bitterness the ale might have possessed.
M - Light bodied but quite slick and oily with a bold peppery spiciness on the palate. This pale ale has some bite!
D - Really bold and flavorful without compromising drinkability. Tasty stuff.
