Poured from tap into nonic at tap and mallet Rochester ny. Pours a brown amber wth no head...
Nice smokey sweet malt aromas and taste is similar. A bit over malty but easy drinker. Nice mild smoked brew and a borderline session its so easy. Nice but not amazing.

Poured up with a robust, creamy head, light colored with good retention. The beer is clear, with a nice amber/reddish hue.
Aroma is of light smoke, wood, subtle malt/sweet.
Flavor is smooth and layered. The smoke is not overpowering. Present but restrained, imparting warmth, wood-smoke, sweet-smoke. Malt character is well balanced with a finish of earthy, lightly bitter hops.
Very drinkable, goes through an enjoyable flavor progression.

Appearance is brownish-copper with a small layer of head that dissipates rather quickly. The nose is distinctly smokey malt. There is a hearty malt taste upfront with a finish that is both touch sweet and dash smoked.
I have not had too many rauchbiers, but this may be the best that I have sampled so far.

Appearance - This brew is a watery caramel-brown color. Light flickers of deep amber shine through the transparency. Terrific lacing to the glass.
Smell - A roasting campfire smokiness hits you right up front for sure. Faint fruits and wild game.
Taste - Deep smokiness that ends in a delicious well balanced malt. Roasted barley and hops that lean towards the sweeter side. Light spices that remind me of smoked sausage and wild game. Very tasty.
Mouthfeel and Drinkability - Easy-going on the palate. All-in-all, a light-bodied, lightly spiced smoked lager. Quite sessionable with a bit of fruity sweetness on the finish.

On tap at Haven Gastropub in Pasadena, CA.
Pours a clear dark brown with a beige head that settles to a film on top of the beer. A foamy curtain of lace coats the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, caramel, and some slight smoke aromas. Taste is much the same with a light smoke flavor that lingers on the finish. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but the smoke is very mild in the aroma and taste.

Draft at Monk's Cafe in Philadelphia.
Pours a chestnut brown color with dark amber edges and a one finger light beige head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Sporadic spots of lacing left behind.
Faintly smokey aroma with lots of sweet malt notes. Surprisingly lacking in smoke/rauchbier characteristics with predominantly sweet notes of toffee, caramel and hazelnut. Even when warmed up considerably, there's only subtle hints of smoke. Not bad smelling just not what i prefer for the style.
Thankfully the smokiness is more evident in the flavor than the aroma. Nice balanced of smoke and sweet malt notes with hints of charcoal, ash and smokes meat followed by caramel and toffee. Smokiness nicely integrated throughout but never becomes a smoke bomb. I generally like more smoke but this I see is well balanced, easy to drink and flavorful.
