bomber into snifter. enjoy by 08/09/13.

A: body is more of a light copper, a little different than most DIPA which are a bit paler. head is frothy, slightly off-white. retention is average. spotted retention.

S: floral. definitely a sweet orange peel, but also some bitter orange peel. a good bit of sticky grapefruit. malty caramel aroma comes in as the drink continues.

T: starts sweet and hoppy. similar to the nose there is a solid orange juice flavor to go along with the heavy orange peel nose. a soft vanilla flavor sneaks its way in there. maybe more malt derived. finish has boatloads of cereal. lingers into the finish more than any hop bitterness.

M: carb is spot on, natural and fizzy but not overbearing. medium/full body.

D: pretty solid DIPA here. drinkability is good as the bitterness has been kept in check and there is balance between grist and hops. nothing earth-shattering here, but certainly worth checking out for all you hop heads out there.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into an unbranded short stemmed tulip/snifter

Pours golden amber with a one and half finger fluffy white head; great retention with fairly evident splotchy lacing. Balanced citrus aroma. Mandarin orange, lemon peel, and lime on the nose. Pineapple, mango, tangerine, lime, hints of sweet caramel malt. Finishes dry with lime and lime peel bitterness. Full bodied slick, smooth with moderate carbonation. A very balanced and enjoyable DIPA. There is plenty here to satisfy any hophead, yet the drinkability of this brew will be appreciated by a wider variety of beer drinkers.

22oz bomber into tulip.

A - Orange-amber with a small bubbly white head.

S - Lots of tropical fruit, fresh grapefruit, mango, caramel, and a hint of pine. Overall aroma strength is light, but pleasant.

T - Fresh juicy tropical fruit and piney hops dominate throughout. Delicious. A mild earthy hop bitterness hits immediately and slowly tapers off. A slightly sweet caramel malt backbone keeps things in check. Grainy, bready malts and citrus hops linger on the tongue. Alcohol is hard to detect here.

M - Smooth, creamy, slick. Medium-full bodied, crisp, mildly carbonated. Slight warming alcohol.

O - A double IPA done right. I'm amazed at how well the alcohol is masked, it drinks way too easy for a ten percent beer. A real treat for any hop head.

Enjoy by 8/18/13

Pour: Hazy light orange with a two finger bone white head that dissipated quickly. Left sticky soap like lacing. When held to the light this turns a nice light citrus like color. Lacing is huge, all over the glass with each sip and sticking.

Smell: Big on the citrus and tropical fruits end and getting tangerine orange, pineapple, grapefruit. Just very juicy tropical and citrus. There is a touch of pine/dank hops and a caramel sweetness. Actually the nose is mild for a DIPA and no alcohol detected.

Taste: The mouth is greeted by a fairly nice wallop of bitterness leading to grapefruit, and then the resinous hops take hold. It is much more pine and resin hop in the taste than the nose let on. It has a sweetness to it like a caramel maltiness but overall the pine and sticky resin hops dominate all the way through to the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full with a lot of creamy and sticky feel going on. Light to medium carbonation and mild alcohol detected.

Overall: Was excited at the nose because I much prefer the tropical/citrus IPA's to the piney/resinous ones but actually much enjoyment to be had by this beer.
