750ml bottle with an egg shell white label. On this label is a simple silhouette of a flying goose with the brewery and the name in forest green letters. All of this is on top of 3 large gold letters. Right under the goose's neck is Spring 2012 date and to the right of that is a bottle number. My bottle is #561 out of 1200. Poured into a Cigar City Snifter.

Number #561 poured a semi hazy golden orange with a small tint of amber blended in. This is where the Golden Ale comes into aspect. On top of this golden/amber brew was a paper white 1/4 of an inch head of foam. This head of foam stuck around for a few seconds before it receded into a solid string of foamy rings. Like the clarity of the beer, the appearance was semi impressive.

The aroma wouldn't wake up for me. I swirled it around, I let it warm up, and I still didn't get much out of the aroma. I got a touch of honey, a pinch of toasted malt, a whiff a rum, and a drop of subtle tropical fruits. Not offensive, but it just needed to wake up. I'm afraid the aroma migrated with the goose on the label.

Like the aroma, the taste needs to wake up as well. At least the taste didn't migrate with the aroma and its bird friend. The taste was mostly about the alcohol. The taste of alcohol wasn't so strong that it ruined the taste. That would have required more of an effort from the taste. Intermingled with the alcohol was a little rum, a tropical fruit or two, a pinch of toasted malt, and a weird caramel/butterscotch taste. More flavor and less alcohol would have done this beer justice.

This was a medium bodied barrel aged Golden Ale with suitable carbonation, and a faint alcohol based aftertaste. You'll be lucky to find rum, toasted malt, and tropical fruits in the aftertaste. If there's one thing this beer did good is mask it's 10.5% ABV. It masked it behind its subtle flavors.

In the end, the name of the beer and the idea that it was aged in rum barrels is better than the beer itself. My bottle never woke up from its deep sleep. When it did wake up, it unleashed more alcohol. After that, I didn't bother waking it up again. Goodbye bottle #561. I hardly knew you.

Pours a hazy dirty blonde color, with some toasted hues. The tight creamy head was smallish and settled into a solid white ring.

The aroma has a touch of toffee and some tropical fruit notes. Honeyed grains and a light grassy hop. Smells like a beefed up all malt lager.

The taste is quite sweet. The pale malt provides a big dose of honey and cereal flavor. Some pineapple, apricot, and coconut notes. There is a good amount of sugary flavor, not sure if that is from the rum barrel or not. The beer really needs some flavor from either hops, the yeast or even some toasted notes; very one dimensional.

The feel is moderate with prickly carbonation. Very sweet on the palate but not quite cloying. A tad sticky in the finish.

I don't really pick up much from the rum barrel and the base beer is fairly boring. The beer needs something else. Nothing off about the brew but just meh.

Shared by noodleuser. Thanks a lot man. The beer is golden yellow with a small white head. The aroma brings malt, sweet candies, butterscotch. Sweet toffee, oranges, alcohol. Nicely done. Flavorful, this is a nice sipper.

Bottle 1038 of 1200

A: Into a tulip (appropriate for the spring, eh?) medium amber beer with a slight haze, bubbles moving up from the bottom, off-white head three fingers high settled into a filmy cap with sme arms of lace

S: oak and rum, honeyed malts, ginger candy

T: sweet ripe pale fruit and rummy sugars; spices like ginger, clove, and nutmeg; lots of pineapple and rum with oaky high notes and a honey malt backbone

M: lush and full, soft but with some carbonation spice

O: very sweet, fruity beer (of the pale sort, obviously) - don't know what it tasted like fresh, but I'll assume it mellowed with age - a good strong pale sipper, reminded me of the Bruery's 5 Golden Rings, plus Gnomegang meets Piraat.

App- Well its a big orange beer thats for sure. A good and thick pour in the glass with a small 1/2" head that was fairly white and quick to fizzle to a 1/8" of bubbles. There was no cling or lace on my glass.

Smell- This was what seemed to me a big boozy beer. The additional notes of honey are very strong on this to me. Not sure why. Very creamy and lush on the nose with a pretty strong malt backbone. The booze as mentioned is strong but hard to detect that its rum until it really warms up.

Taste- This was a tasty beer. I have enjoyed these in the series from EVO. This one was a large beer at 10% and you noticed it right off the bat. Its a large creamy flavor with a suprising balance to the booze. Fairly sweet with a bit of lush malts and a strong herbal/rum flavor due to the balance of the style and treatment.

Mouth- A very large medium beer. The carbonation was about the same as well. The remaining flavors were of Rum, malts and some citrus zest.

Drink- Its a tasty beer. I told Matt via text. Wish it had more rum flavor but the Golden strong comes into play nicely and has some good flavors and depth of flavor as well.
