Saison du Blodget (prounounced blow-jay) is a blend of two hoppy saisons. Both beers were one-off batches. The first, 2011 Monk and Mingus, was brewed for the Cheers to Belgian Beers festival and used 25 pounds of Tettnanger and Liberty hops. The second, Todo Modo, was a session beer fermented with Saison DuPont yeast and hopped with East Kent Goldings and Santiams. A single cask of each was filled and lightly dosed with brettanomyces claussenii, aged for 10 and 5 months, respectively, then blended... Named for our friend and colleague, Corey Blodgett, who collaborates with us once a year for a new Monk and Mingus brew.

A great big thanks goes out to Gabe for the bottle! Saison de Blodget gurgles from the bottle in a bright golden stream before, after filling the glass, becoming sunset orange. Moderate haze runs throughout the body while perfectly straight streams of tiny carbonation bubbles run to the surface. A creamy white head easily forms on the pour and rests at a thick cap leaving sheet lacing down the glass.
Fruit forward and brett laden is what the nose tells me. Your usual saison fruits are noted; peach, pear, and green apple but what really sets this beer apart is a welcomed tropical note; peppery mango and soft pineapple. A touch of candi sugar and sugar cookie malts make up a light base while botanical brett compliments all. With some warmth the brett segues between the wildflower aspect and barnyard, horseblanket. Grassy hops zip it up. This beer seems to be ever evolving.
Peach, pear, and green apple all meld together as one as soon as this saison hits the tongue. The middle flashes brightly with bitter grassy notes and tannic oak before musty fruit takes back over. The brett addition in the flavor is mostly on the finish adding mustiness to the fruit and summer field/wildflower qualities on the swallow. A long overripe pineapple note lingers on the finish. Again, it seems this beer is ever evolving and changing. Very nice!
The body leans toward the lighter side of moderate and while the carbonation is more active than average it's very soft. There's quite a bit of oak tannin from the middle to swallow that really dries things out and accentuates the light hoppy bitterness. This saison is almost too easy to drink.
Upright has done a great job with Saison de Blodget. It's fruity and bretty with both complimenting each other. The barrel aging has added a nice touch of tannin making the finish superbly dry. This is rustic while stlll sporting a nice new wave twist. Thanks again, Gabe!

Thanks to Tieman for sharing this one at his tasting.
Pours a hazy orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is slightly sour with malt, grain, Brett, peach, apricot, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with slightly sour peach, apricot, and Brett flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of woody bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with a nice balance all around between the Brett and barrel aging.

750 mL bottle courtesy of fthomasl pours a lightly hazed gold color with a fair amount of white head. Spotty lace.
Nose is a freaking delicious blend of hops, saison yeast and brett. Wow...perfect nose, I cant think of a beer that has ever smelled better.
Taste is unbelievable...vinous grape skins, leathery brett and a perfect Belgian yeast character. Lemons come out and just add to a perfect drinking experience. Awesome saison, one of the best I have ever had.

On tap at upright.
A clear gold with a dense, off white head with excellent retention and gorgeous lacing, this is a beautiful saison. The nose is marvelously floral. So delicate, so refined, so vibrant! Plenty Floral with rose , jasmine , potpourri, along with Perfume, rustic grain, a white wine base. Fantastic.
The palate opens mildly tart and funky, with a Brett note, earthy funky, a touch of clove, before a wall of floral flavor takes over. Rose, jasmine, a little bit of kafir lime leaf, a dry, quenching wheat bite, and some yeast. Drying on the finish with floral and mild Brett notes, this is really excellent stuff.
