surprisingly decent selection for a supermarket liquor store adjunct in the middle of a heavily collegian-populated area. now, it's no marty's or even blanchard's, but there is a solid assortment of craft, including stuff from DFH, goose island, stone, weyerbacher, victory, oskar blues (though no ten fidy), ommegang, and allagash, to throw out a few i have seen and/or purchased over the past couple of years. a few local breweries are represented as well; pretty things, berkshire, mystic, etc.
another nicety about this place is it's 11pm closing time on sundays. help is either solid or decidedly lacking, depending on who's working, which is fine - it's the kind of place you'll stop into to grab some staples (especially after grocery shopping), not to secure a major haul and seek input from/talk shop with employees.
in the end, while i wouldn't go out of my way to get here, living nearby i consider it an asset.

Star Market recently renovated a corner of the store into a wine & beer shop. I stopped in on Friday to check it out. There is one shelf on the left with warm six packs and single bottles. The coolers to the right are filled with cold six packs and the wall in the back is the wine selection. Overall, not a bad selection whatsoever. Now, this place does not compare to the greatness of the Shaw's at the Pru, but this place does well with the less amount of space it has to work with. The focus is mostly on American beers and six packs in general. There are some singles available, but in limited quantity. Service was also better than expected. There was a bit of a line to pay, and one employee jumped over to the register to help me, and then chatted a bit with me about the beers I bought. Like the effort. I picked up a six pack of the Guinness 250th Annniv. for $10.49, and a single of Zywiec Porter for $2.99. Overall, the selection didn't make me want to keep coming back, with Blanchard's etc right up the street. But if I was ever stuck in the Packard's Corner area, this place could easily work in a pinch.
