Murky brown pour with a tan head with lacing. Big whiskey with light char meets candi sugar, dark fruit, and belgian yeast in nose, barrel is a bit strong. Taste the barrel dominates, while the char and wood pair well enough with the base dubbel flavors, the whiskey is so hot, overpowering everything. Feel is hot and thins out as a result, needs less time in the barrel for sure

This pours a murky brown color with a slight beige head. The aroma is malty and sweet with hints of whiskey flavors. The taste is quite sweet with the yeast and malts. There are some whiskey tones but they are nothing too over-powering. Not bad, but certainly nothing you would expect from the style.

22oz bottle. Poured out a murky, dark brown color with almost head. It smelled of dark dried fruits, toffee and bourbon. Sweet caramel and toffee with a strong bourbon presence.

A: Light golden, slightly caramel in color. Thin to no head. Lacing falls quickly down the edge of the glass.
S: A pleasant nose. Initially, smelled just the malt, but after closer inspection, it smells more like a typical Dubbel. I smelled strawberry jam with hints of dry, sweeter red wine (Syrah perhaps?).
T: Very sweet and slightly sour. Uncharacteristically sour for this type. Wild fruit flavor.
M: Thin and effervescent.
O: I thought it had a great smell, but the taste was way too sour for this type of beer.

A - Dark russet brown with a thick foamy cap. Light lacing with below average retention.
S - Tart grapes, very vinous, tart cherries, apple cider vinegar, acidic lemons, spicy yeast, nutmeg, sweet rich malts underneath, woody notes come out as it warms.
T - Lots of tart fruit, cherries, grapes, figs soaked in lemon juice, vinegar, hints if sour whiskey, vanilla, notes of banana, woody malts, finishes semi tart but kind of flat.
M - Medium lush body, moderate scrubbing carbonation helps lift the weight, finishes tart and dry.
We'll this is obviously infected....in a big way. Smells like an Oud Bruin. Nobody in the world would taste this and say, "that's a Belgian Dubbel".
But if you like sours this beer has some intrigue. It smells more sour than the flavor but if it's not pausturized this will only gain in sourness. I'm kind of torn on how to rate this beer so I'm gonna split it between a failed Dubbel and a nice start for a sour. It's not a Dubbel but an infected beer that might have a future if left on the shelf long enough.
