I discovered this bar up in Point Place, basically as far NE as Toledo gets, right near where my wife works. It's a good way to pass some time in the afternoon. I really enjoy the rustic but clean maritime sort of atmosphere (the sort one would expect in Point Place). It's nicely put together and it's also tidy, which is nice in a bar. There's a whole lot of room at the bar and also some tables and chairs set up, and spacing is good. Prices are decent at $4 for a 28 oz. mug, though on Tuesdays they're $2.50 and $1.50 for a short. I think the food is good, especially perhaps for bar food but really genuinely good. The servers/tenders are very friendly and familiar with the customers and quick on refills and to check up on people. There are two large flat-screen TVs that are accessible from the bar and tables without being overbearing or in the way...ideal placement, actually, set u so that some can watch without distracting others. There's also a CD jukebox to liven things up. The only issue with placing it for rating on BA is that it's more of a regular bar than a beer bar. I have to give props to the selection in that most bars in these areas make no effort except to macro light drinkers, and here at least an effort is made. Currently there's Goose Island Honker's Ale and SA Boston Lager on tap. There was at least one Great Lakes selection on tap but it was moved out because it didn't sell. Let's face it, when you live in a place that, though we're almost as far north as you can be in the U.S., is more like the deep South (P.P., that is), and most are satisfied to drink dyed seltzer water, you won't get much business selling anything full-flavored. Sadly, this little place has to put on tap what's going to sell, and when so many people have such undeveloped palates, good stuff isn't going to sell as much. The highest quality macro on tap is Amber Bock. Anyway, there's also a good amount of bottles in coolers behind the bar, but nothing micro as far as I know. They do have some of the higher end micros, though Corona Light is probably as popular as anything here. The fact is, the only reason to drink CL with a lime slice is because that lime slice is the only flavor you're getting. Anyway, it's really a pretty good bar in itself and a cool place to hang out, so if you want to get a good beer you can; it's just that your choices are limited. Most bars don't offer anything but the yellow seltzer, so this is a step up. I could alternate between a BL, HA, or coke and Captain, but it's a relaxing place and pretty quiet on an afternoon. If you want excitement, they're pretty wild at night. Take your pick.
