I've been to Finnegan's a few times now and every time I go I am never dissapointed. Their beer list is just awesome. I don't have an exact number but 200+ easily. Last time I was there they had FW Parabola on tap, Stone Vertical Epic 07-09, life and limb and stone IRS 05 and 06. So even with their 200+ brews they still have many limited releases which is great. The bartenders seem very knowledgeable and friendly, and the food is above average. Another reason I love this place is even on a Friday or Saturday night, you will still be able to get a seat/table, as it never seems to be very packed.( Maybe I have just been lucky.)
Anyway, all in all I do not believe I have been to a pub anywhere in the burbs that has the selection of Finnegan's. Accompany that with good food and knowledgeable employee's, and this place is a must stop for anyone in the area.

Let me start by stating what this place IS. It is a great place to enjoy some good food and above average beers in the Plainfield area. I have been going in there for several months and know the list quite well.
Edit: 12/8/09 - Man this place is much improved. Taps are outstanding and bottle selection is very good. Dale (owner) is committed to making this place THE place to be in burbs and THE alternative to Bavarian Lodge. Staff training and beer knowledge is much improved. Don't miss this place or you will be sadly missing great beers at a fair price with better than average Irish Fare. Cannot wait for the new menu to be released by the new exec chef - Tom H. from the Herrington in Geneva, IL. This place is a rising star.
It doesn't have many rare beers or specifically difficult beers to locate but it has a nice selection. ESPECIALLY FOR THE PRICE....Double Dog $5 bottle - Commodore Perry $4.5....Tripel Karmelite bottle $6. Maybe I am just too accustomed to prices in Naperville, Lisle or Brookfield. The staff is quite helpful althought they are learning as time progresses, and certainly more knowledgable that those of the bartenders found at the other end of town. Foood is typical Irish pub fare, try the Boxtys they are a tasty dish. If possible enjoy the sidewalk cafe and maybe on Tuesday nites you can also enjoy the classic car cruise nights. Three cheers for the city of Plainfield finally getting the downtown district done correctly. Hopefully parking will be next.

Let me start by saying that I do not mind the prices at the bar, but I imagine some people might have a problem paying $6 for a pint or tulip. The beer list is the most impressive place I have been to in Illinois, great tap list, good bottle selection. Staff seems to know what they are talking about except one guy... Did not get his name, but did not have to much knowledge; however he was willing to change the lines on the kegs in the basement so my buddy could try something that was not tapped when we got there. Food is what you can expect from an Irish establishment. Overall it is my new favorite pub in town.

ABSOLUTE MUST if your in Plainfield or surronding area. Beer selection is unmatched! Great food, Great atmosphere, Great Beer! Wood work is gorgous and continues on the second floor, library is a beautiful place to have a private dinner. Ask about their beer dinners! Staff is friendly and knowledgeable and pretty funny!Beer prices are outstanding! They have alot of smaller breweries i had never heard of but soon became some of my favorites. Try a Boont Amber Ale or Lost Coast Great White. Best craft beer pub around! Highly recommended!

I visited Finnegan's last night and decided it was high time to give it a review.
Situated in the cool historic downtown of Plainfield, IL, Finnegan's is in a great location. Parking can be a challenge on a busy "going out to dinner" sort of night (every Friday and Saturday in Plainfield) but I have always been lucky enough not to have to walk too far after finding a spot.
The decor is what you want in an Irish (or any) pub. Lots of wood, rich colors on the walls, and a lack of cheesy faux-Irish swag.
The beer list is incredible, and several pages in length, with a full page dedicated just to the taps. Selection was super high quality without any real duds at all. On my visit they were pouring interesting offerings from a wide range of US craft beer breweries. My buddy had a Left Hand Milk Stout and I ordered the Stone Dry-Hopped Arrogant Bastard. Both were fresh and delicious, so much so that we ordered the same thing on round two which I rarely do in the presence of that many great beers.
Prices were very fair for the area, with many quality pints weighing in at $5-$6 and the food coming in at $9 or so. Speaking of food we had Irish nachos, onion soup, and smoked pork tacos and all were very tasty and well worth the price.
If this place was in the heart of Chicago it would be worth visiting. Considering that it is in the far southwest suburbs it is a godsend to those of us living in the Plainfield area. Very highly recommended!

Is this Heaven? No it's Plainfield. Finnegan's is a cool beer bar designed to resemble an Irish Pub. Decent sized bar downstairs along with some table's and booths. Some nice flatscreen TV's behind the bar. Upstairs is some more dining tables along with a smaller bar.
The quality and selection at Finnegan's is outstanding. The selection includes about 20+ draft beers and what must be 100's of bottles to choose from. New draft's beers are frequently added.
The service has always been very good every time I have been there. Bartenders and wait-staff are very friendly.
I have only eaten there on 2 occasions, but enjoyed both meals.
I have found that Finnegan's prices seem to be a little higher than other places I have been to, but I'm willing to pay a premium to have such a selection so close to home.
Bonus - Kid Friendly. My wife and I have brought our baby with us for lunch on two occasions.

I've been to Finnegan's many times and I have to say it's one of the best Craft Beer bars in the area if not in all of Chicagoland.
They have a huge selection and a relatively knowledgeable waitstaff. The owner is a great guy who truly loves and appreciates craft beer and his enthusiasm can be seen in his staff.
Their food menu ranges from typical bar food to some near high end dishes. Also, every few months they hold a Beer Dinner which consists of a 5 course meal with specific beers paired to each course. Actually, I should say each dish is paired to the beer. I went to their Dogfish Head dinner and it was amazing!
This place is a must-go-to for all BA's.

Been to Finnegan's three times now and I've been impressed every time. They have the best selection compared to any other place in the area with 30 something taps and over 200 bottles. A pretty good variety of selection as well as quality selection. Servers are pretty knowledgeable and entusiastic about beer. I ended up having fairly lengthy conversations about Founders and FFF with some of the servers. Their food is above average as well. While prices aren't way outstanding, they are definitely reasonable. Definitely looking forward to more visits here.
