Formerly Ghost River Black Magic

Ghost River Black Magic has a pronounced toasted malt flavor that creates a smooth roasted flavor without the bite found in a typical stout or porter. The end result is a dark beer with great flavor and drinkability.

Very dark brown, almost black with a moderate head that dissipates slowly leaving limited lacing.

Slight metallic note. Otherwise, toasted grain, chocolate, cocoa powder

No metallic notes on the tongue, light welcome sweetness, cocoa, moderate welcome bitterness.

Lighter body, moderate carbonation.

An enjoyable Schwartzbier i’d Gladly drink again.

At the brewery.

Very dark reddish brown, date colored beer. The head is a grey-brown smokey color.

Milk chocolate, malted milk balls, almost lactose sweetness, maybe a hint of herbal hops.

It’s like a hershey’s soda. There’s a bit of roast and some hop bitterness trying to block and tackle some of the sweetness. Ultimately it’s like a one dimensional American stout.

Thinnish with medium carbonation.

Right now this is listed as a Schwarzbier, which is probably appropriate. The brewery calls it a German dark ale.

A dark beer with a smell and taste of chocolate and coffee but not overpowering. Not as much head and not as thick as others I have had in this category.

Dark, blackish color with ruby highlights at the edges.

Aroma of dark toffee, ripe figs and traces of cocoa.

Taste is much stronger in the roast malt/coffee department with those two making up at least 50% of the first sip. By mid palate the ripe fruit elements emerge somewhat but the overall taste remains dry. Fairly simple flavors that remain consistent but stay firmly in the roast malt camp.

Medium full texture with balancing carbonation.

One for those who like to dance on the dark side.

Pours ebony with a pinky of tan head. Alright lacing & great head retention

S: Smokey & roasty

T: Roasty, brown bread, woody hops up front. Faint chocolate notes, dryness, herbal & woody hops as this warms & more brown bead. Finishes roasty, with more brown bread, some figgyness & dryness & a little carob

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation

A good take on the style & well worth a go
