Special release at the taproom only on 11/5. Nitro Bourbon barrel aged porter with coffee and chocolate.
A: Black with a creamy brown head only seen on Nitro beers.
S: This quite literally smelled like butterscotch. Like Werther's Original in liquid form. There was some alcohol presence and mild bourbon notes, but the butterscotch was more than dominant.
T&M: Taste was mostly toffee and bourbon. Chocolate was subtle but detectable. There was a very slight coffee presence but barely noticeable. This developed a bit more as it warmed. Carbonation was low to medium. Mouthfeel was smooth and creamy.
O: Not great, but unique. I can't say I've had a porter aged in bourbon with chocolate and coffee and on nitro. Gotta give it to black raven for being creative. I think there is a serious lack of roast, and chocolate in this, and the aroma of butterscotch is slightly odd which leads me to think of fermentation off flavors (diacetyl) but it didn't feel/taste like an off beer. Weird...

On tap at the Brewpub
A - Poure a deep dark brown, almost black with a silky smooth dark tan creamy head that lasts through the whole glass.
S - A little nutty and Roasty. Some booze, but not a whole lot.
T - Taste is more nutty and chocolate with more bourbon and booze coming out. Blended pretty well and tastes pretty light.
D - Nitro, so smooth but a bit thin for me.
O - Not the best porter, but defiantly unique and easy drinking. I was glad to try it.

Nitro-tap, served in a tulip glass.
A- Super foamy, off-white, milk froth head resting upon a rich black surface. Activity from the nitro pour added to the allure.
S- Fresh, misty bourbon on the nose. Has the powdery smell of chocolate underneath the alcohol, reminiscent of a chocolate factory. Hints of wood chips, mint, and the faintest smell of coffee.
T- Smooth, creamy, chocolatey bourbon, with sweet and sugary flavors resembling ice cream. The creamy bourbon and chocolate combo kept moving my palate towards mint chocolate, especially in the mouthfeel. No detectible bitterness and not a very roasted malt character, more creamy and sugary. As it warmed, I started getting flavors of smooth peanut butter. Yum.
MF- Very creamy and drinkable. I think this was a lighter ABV, making it easier to drink. Not a thick beer, sort of a lighter mouthfeel while still having that creamy texture.
O- An easy to drink bourbon barrel beer enhanced with the nitro pour. When it warmed, the coffee did shine slightly, but overall was undetectable for a coffee beer. Nonetheless, the chocolate, sugary sweetness, and great mouthfeel gave this complexity. Enjoyable and refreshing.
