Poured into a Black Raven pint glass. Pours a light to medium golden amber with a fine two finger, slightly off-white head with great retention and massive lacing. Nice aroma of piney, somewhat herbal hops, orange and lemon, light sweet malt. Flavor is very refreshing and lemony. Orange, lemon, grapefruit fruit and rind, an intense pine flavor like biting into a pine needle, light sweet malt; finishes with lemon and piney hops. Medium creamy bodied. I've used "piney hops" in reviews many times, but this was remarkable. Unusually fresh juice citrus too. I'm in awe, this is excellent and now in my top 5 IPAs of all time despite having a modest malt component to the flavor. Unique and tasty.

22oz bomber, split, hilliards can-pint
Pale straw-urine body, nice frothy white head. Smells of fresh citrus peel, lemon zest, lime, grapefruit. Tastes a bit "herbal" in the 502 Initiative sense - lemon zest, loads of citrus, tangerine, lime leaf. Nice stuff - would drink this a lot if regularly available.

A: Poured a light orangish color with a medium white cap, some chill haze and light lacing
S: Light pine needle smell with some juicy tropical fruits on the nose with tradional lemon and orange zest
T: Citrus upfront; some mango, orange peel and minimal lemon zest. There is a bittering presence early to mid taste which sordove lingers on.
M: Mouthfeel was rather clean with a hint of oil, but mainly dry and pretty refreshing
O: A good IPA and was happy I was able to try. A balanced IPA leaning a little to the hop end

I had this one on tap awhile ago. Picked up some bottles to try on 6.12.12.
A - Pours a clear, straw color with a fluffy white head that fades to a film and leaves lacing on the glass.
S - Very citrusyy, some pine as well.
T - Strong citrus with a solid pine backbone.
D - Good carbonation with a medium body.
O - Citrus smell and some pine flavors, very good batch. I enjoyed it much more this time around.

22oz bottle poured into a NB globe
A: The beer poured a nice hazy orange yellow hue with a small fluffy head that left a nice trail of lacing throughout the session.
S: Certainly the highlight of the beer for me. Big tropical nose mingling with a piny citrusy nose all of which balanced nicely with a candy like malt bill. The thing that kept popping into my mind was Peach Jolly Rancher. Weird but I really liked it. Awesome nose.
T: Taste falls a bit short of the nose but is still very good. Big citrus hop up front combing with a bit of orange peel bitterness. Again this was balanced nicely with the the candy like malt bill and again I picked up the flavors of Peach Jolly Rancher. Yum
M: Carbonation was spot on and the overall mouth feel was medium bodied and crisp. Quite refreshing on the pallet.
O: Overall this was another very nice IPA from Black Raven but this one was a very balanced effort from them as opposed to their usual hop bombs (which I also love). I would certainly have this one again when fresh and available.

Thanks to Eric for sharing, review from written notes.
Into a mini pint glass, it pours a light pale golden orange, considerably transparent, with a thin ring of foam around the edges. Rising carb trails visible around the edges.
Pungent hoppy aroma, orange peel and grapefruit zest, a little bit dank and cheesy in the west coast tradition.
Moderately bitter hop flavors, grapefruit rind and floral with plenty of citrus zest indeed. Balanced nicely with mild pale malt and a light feel overall. A nice west coast IPA that doesn't go too crazy. A bomber solo would be no problem.

Thanks to Janet L. for the hookup on this one. Poured into 10oz goblet. Poured a slightly hazy, light golden yellow color with just a thin cap of white head, that quickly settled into just a rim, and had very low retention and no lacing.
There was a powerful hop aroma on the nose. Citrus, pine and floral notes dominated with a bit of a weed tone in the background. No noticeable malt or grain in the scent however. In the flavor profile the story was pretty much the same. Not much malt or grain presence, but a ton of hops. Lots of citrus (having orange peel in the beer will do that) upfront, with pine and floral hop aspects being the foundation flavors.
The body was thinner than I like in the style, but was very crisp and overall pretty nice. Drinkability was very good, bordering on excellent, this was the rare IPA where I thought "I could easily drink another 22 of this right now". Overall, a very nice beer that I though compared very favorably to the much vaunted Pliny the Elder. And at only 6.5% ABV, you won't get wrecked with this beer. A must try if the opportunity presents itself.

On tap at Latona Pub in Seattle, WA. August 18th, 2011.
A: The beer pours a deep orange color with a hint of amber. A nice thick head of foam formed initially before breaking down into a thin cap covering the surface of the beer.
S: There is a wonderful aroma of grapefruit, orange peel and lemon with strong pine notes and a hint of rye floating around in the background.
T: There is an initial hit of the citrus fruits in this beer (orange, lemon and grapefruit) which is followed by the bitter pine of the hops. As this beer was brewed with rye, you can really taste alongside the pine notes at the end.
M: Medium carbonation and a very nice, slightly oily mouth feel. The alcohol was well masked.
O: I've been to Black Raven once, and we had to leave before trying any of their beers. I encountered their Iron Brewer contribution at Beveridge during Seattle Beer Week, but that wasn't probably the best way to be introduced to them. This was a great way, though. Really nice summer IPA, I hope they end up making this again.
